Right so now he knows he made a deal with Mephisto but he still does not know the Deal was for his Marriage with Mary Jane.

I predict this will happen sooner or later Spider-man will across mephisto and then.

>Since the game is up you might as well know it was for your marriage for a woman named Mary Jane.

Now the only question is do peter and Mary Jane get their memories back of the marriage or not? I really don't think it matter eithe way rfor now editoral goes.

>Mary Jane has changed a lot since OMD she is not the same person since before pre-OMD.

>Yeah we ruined/character assassinated her personality that much and their was her affair with Paul she did leave peter for him.

>Yep there is no way Peter and Mary Jane can work as couple anymore so let's just keep them separate better yet let's keep them divorced.

>Still peter does deserve a happy ending so what do we next.

>I have a idea let's bring back Gwen and have her and Peter get back together and see what happens next.

>Great idea let's do it.

I honestly think that is exactly what they will do since editoral does hate Mary Jane and they do want peter to be with Gwen.

Now before you start shitposting I have a question for you MJ/osborns fans do you want peter to get a happy ending or would you rather he be a lone and unmarried person for good? if you want true happiness for him then do not fight Gwen's revival please this is for the best it really is.

>>
>>156158669
Oh so you rathe haver peter be a lone and unmarried person for good? then I take it.
>>
I think Peter and MJ should agree to give it another shot after recovering at least some memory and then immediately after a new teen Gwen Stacy (spider-gwen? Secret symbiote? Clone?) shows up and aggressively pursues Peter to their dismay
>>
>>156158705
MUH GUNDAM
>>
>>156158316
Schizo, the one guy in Marvel who wanted that was just banished to Japan.

Shut the fuck up and cry about it like the last twenty times the past few years they brought back Peter and MJ instead of Gwen.
>>
>>156159006
Oh give me break anon they are others who still love Gwen and keep in mind current editoral hates MJ. Besides she either get brought back or Peter will remain a lone person forever.
>>
>>156159131
I think Mephisto should bring back Gwen but make her fat and retarded as part of his revenge.
>>
>>156159131
All of Gwens fans being fat perverts - including you - doesn't help your argument you goddamn dipshit.

So yes, very much looking forward to your next crashout where you leave this place to cry and stew when Peter and MJ do come back as they inevitably will.
>>
>>156159964
MJ being a cheater changed everything so no peter and MJ won't be gerting back together.
>>
>>156160370
Yes they will because no more OMD means MJ will be free of Mephisto’s magic to be with Peter!
>>
>>156160370
MJ didn't cheat you illiterate fuckwit lol

Al Ewing made that explicit; she thought Peter was dead. So they've already removed your dumbest argument after only two years.

How long was Gwen a cheater for again?
Oh that's right. SEVENTEEN.
And they needed to imply Norman fucked Mysterio in order to do that rather than saying it didn't happen like with MJ lol

Also... they've produced over half a dozen Peter and MJ stories this year alone.
How many Peter and Gwen stories?
One. And it took place in a story involving PETER AND MJ'S GRANDKID. So Gwen needed a Peter and MJ story to still be relevant lol

Your stupidity and desperation is really amazing.
I can already feel the tears forming.
>>
>>156158316
Here we go again.
>>
>>156160526
Not schizo and Gwen is going to remain dead, but MJ repeatedly chose Paul over Peter. She needs a retcon rescue desperately from people who weren't responsible like Lowe.
>>
Hey remember when Miles sold the life of a Muslim girl to save Kamala? Is that gonna be addressed?
>>
>>156161601
It should but it won't.
Did Kamala ever find out and cut him out of her life? I know he quit but it didn't stick.
Also man Kamala needs to stop hanging around Spider-Men, she keeps dying.
>>
>>156161565
I don't think she needs a retcon (though I also wouldn't say no to one), but she does need some work I will concede.

But its not as impossible as some are making it out to be. Both ASM 1000 and MJ's 60th were far more pro-PeterMJ than most suspected they would be.

Heck in Venom, MJ didn't really care all that much that Paul was dead (or not as much as you might expect). Her and Peter were flirting and making eyes at each other at the guy's funeral (whilst third-wheeling Flash) lol

All that needs to happen is to stop putting dumb obstacles in the way for long enough.
>>
>>156161601
They will never acknowledge anything that could ruin their golden boy's image.
>>
>>156158316
>>156158334
I think we just have to accept that without One More Day and Editorial around to artificially push MJ down, that Gwen's legacy was always something fairly worthless. In the end, Gwen is worthless without OMD or Mephisto. The end of One More Day is also the end of Gwen Stacy, and the end of Gwenschizo.
>>
>>156162086
It's not obstacles or the future I'm concerned about, it's the past.
Everytime MJ makes an affirmation of loyalty, stability or standing by Peter it's going to ring hollow. Love is apparently a coat she can take on and off.
Her credentials as a love interest, not only for Peter but for ANYONE, are blackballed.
>>
>>156162137
Damn, good thing this shit is fiction and we can just disregard the entire BND era.
>>
>>156158770
>I think Peter and MJ should agree to give it another shot
Nah. You should never normalize that. It doesn't work.
>>
>>156161601
im wondering more about otto
>>
>>156158316
Why not go to hell and kick Mephisto's cunt in until he undoes the contract?
>>
>>156162137
I'm not saying the Paul nonsense isn't damaging, because it is. But honestly, all that needs to happen is to not do anything like that for long enough.

Paul is also kind of a unique circumstance where you can pass off MJ's behaviour as trauma (in fact that's pretty much the official reason, both in-universe and out). So the longer he goes unmentioned, the longer that's possible.

And given he's not mentioned at all in her mini thus far, even when he's directly responsible for her entire hero period,(instead they attributed that entirely to Peter) that definitely seems possible. Heck a good number of Marvel summaries of her time as Jackpot omit him entirely. One of them says Felicia stole the tech for her so they could team-up together. Which sure as heck isn't what happened, but it hilariously shows that Paul is a 10-foot pole topic for MJ for the foreseeable future.lol
>>
>>156162428
They need to about course correct hard and give MJ a embarrassment of riches in terms of winning back not only Peter, but a very much pissed off audience.
Some accountability would go a long way, and not the hack job Ewing did.
>>
>>156162137
She was a great love interest for paul... oh wait, no she wasnt. Strung him along just enough to get him killed. Poor guy.
>>
>>156162815
He deserved it. She was quietly engineering his death.
>>
>>156162137
This is why Disney needs to have the editorial go through a public humiliation ritual
>>
>>156162428
She needs therapy sessions where some of this can be explicitly stated.
>part of me felt paul deserved getting stabbed, he did genocide a planet.
>Paul had a way of glancing at dylan, it made me uncomfortable.
> gwen would always get so upset about peter. She and I grew closer and she would invite herself over, spend the night. I was cool with it, it was safe, didn't want to be alone, I guess. She would talk in her sleep "Norman this, Norman that."
>>
>>156163030
Disney should wait until Nick Lowe and Tom Brevoort buy their new houses in LA and immediately fire them.
>>
>>156163216
I'm baffled that Brevoort bothered to move when he is this close to retirement and had previously said he would never leave NY.
>>
>>156163325
Tom Brevoort is determined to make sure Gwen Stacy never comes back.
>>
>>156163403
That's why he's the man in charge of the X-Men!
>>
>>156158316
Still not buying this, it will go back to the statu quo and in the odd chance something does happen it will be to kick peter in the nuts again like bringing the daughter back but she hates him or something

They don't want Peter to be with anyone long term. They want him single and any girl he gets with has to be seen as temporary. The new Gwen isn't the old Gwen and she's not even his age. Peter will never get with MJ, Gwen, or Felicia. It's the one thing they've been consistent about for decades.
>>
>>156158316
This is another bait troll for haters of OMD to buy this comic, as if Marvel will admit they're a bunch of fuck ups.
>>
>>156160526
>it's not cheating if she gaves up on him and thinks that the man known to be stuborn as all shit is dead

Paul still didn't tell her about the time dilation, though.
>>

I didn't say "incredibly" I said "more than expected".

Which is still more than your waifu got...
So yeah.

Also, oooohhhh I can tell these comments got under your skin, you haven't snapped back like this in a while :)
>>
>>156158316
Buddy if you knew what was good you'd want her to stay dead, I wish they just killed off MJ and left her there years ago. Honestly kinda the same for Osborne at this point. Really even Peter himself almost
>>
>>156163813
Memories so happy that every single time we've looked into her mind since then, they were nowhere to be seen.
Including when Peter took a dive into her thoughts and discovered where she feels safest and... oh. Her safest thoughts are from when she first met Peter? Not a trace of that so-called happiness anywhere? Funny that.

Almost like it was a desolate world full of monsters and she had no-one else to talk to or rely on other than the guy who killed it.

In fact every time MJ has recalled that time, it has only been the survival aspects, making it clear she fucking hated it.

That was your best response? lol
>>
>>156163909
Yeah, but that's on Paul for being a scumbag.

Heck, he took the secret that he knew about that to his grave.
>>
>>156163914
>more than expected
>people expected at least 1 part of it being about them as a couple and got.... zero stories centered about them as a couple
amazing pro PeterMJ stuff
i don't even know who lives rent free in your head but you can not say that asm1000 is pro ship and not expect me to call you a retard. what does it do that is pro PeterMJ at all? barely mention her, if at all, during a story centered more about gwen again? show them sitting on a bench for a limited number of panels while the rest is some wild west shit?
>>
>>156163950
>Yeah, but that's on Paul for being a scumbag.
Alternatively, it's on Ewing, White and everybody in the Spoffice who thinks whatever the fuck happened between Paul and MJ was perfectly fine and not him basically manipulating MJ into having sex with him.

You genuinely have to be the most inbred person on the fucking planet to not see what's wrong with what Paul did, or to equate him being complicit in genociding an entire planet with Peter being at fault for letting Uncle Ben die. The fact that Disney didn't fire Lowe the first chance they got after the absolute disaster that was the Wells run is beyond me.
>>
>>156163990
Ooohhh the seeth, the cope. Its hilarious.

Yeah, the comments really got to you.

>>156164011
How long do you think it'll be before Marvel musters up the balls to actually address this
>>
>>156163935
>it has only been the survival aspects
because as i said they fucked up hard when actually SHOWING (which has more weight than any dialogue) what went down there which as far as we know was just another adventure and a cottage core montage with him and the kids, it makes her behaviour just inconsistent and not seem traumatic at all, but that is a whole different discussion point is using the "trauma" excuse is dumb

>Her safest thoughts are from when she first met Peter? Not a trace of that so-called happiness anywhere? Funny that
this only makes her look worse about the fact that she dumped her partner ASAP
>>
>>156163990
>MJ was Peter's wife in several of those stories and they had grandkids in one of them
>Gwen was a hallucination of a dead person in ONLY one of them
>Somehow this makes Gwen more important than MJ according to insane child molesters

lol
>>
>>156164056
When Paul gets resurrected.
>>
>>156164056
It won't be referenced or explored honestly as long as Lowe and those responsible for it are there, because it's then an admission they did Avengers #200 again. Which is what people have been screaming since Dead Language did Avengers #200 again.
It's very possible some decade from now under a new regime/writer, they are going to come in like Claremont and go to town, only Claremont got to address #200 within a year because Shooter had a lot more integrity.

It's why repair of MJ and addressing the Rabin saga is so fucking hard under Lowe, they are in active denial of the story they made and they pretend like all of this has been MJ's choices. And then cope years after the fact and call it trauma, which nobody saw then or sees now.
Just terrible writing across the board.
>>
>>156164066
LMAO

You're literally having to lie about the story in order to cope that it hasn't been thrown in the trash and will be ignored in future.

"They fucked hard and the story showed that" - and yet, there is not a single panel of that anywhere.

Hey dipshit...
Still not cheating even if Paul broke her back in.
Which he evidently did not given how dispassionate everything was.
She wouldn't be constantly thinking of another man otherwise... lol
>>
>>156164116
That nigga got pegged, let's be real
>>
>>156164126
Dude canonically got cucked by Venom. There's no way he was topping MJ even if she didn't hate sleeping with him lol.
>>
>>156164056
marvel themselves? probably years, decades even. they know most people only know about paul because of the outrage of him stealing spider-man's girl, that is why they are acting like it never happened and trying to shift the focus on the OMD bait.
why? because the moment the masses wise up and actually read the whole thing and what paul did they will go
>hey wait a second... isn't that kind of rapey?
and that will be trouble because mj and spider-man are THAT popular, only then they will be forced to either
A) retcon that shit
B) address it like what happened with carol and kang
>>
>the only reason Paul wasn't sued into oblivion for being a company head that got people killed is because he killed ALL the people
>court can't convict me because I killed the judge the jury
How oh how did MJ find this out about him and not be repulsed and at best platonically tolerate him as a necessity for survival?
Why does Paul think himself worthy of going to spas? Does this man act like he gives a fuck?
>>
>>156164088
>When
The fact that we're not saying "if" shows how little faith we have in Marvel at this point
>>
The deal is nullified
But he makes a new deal to bring Paul back to life. No I'm not joking.
>>
>>156158316
The only time Gwen ever mattered was when she died
>>
>>156164355
I mean DC resurrected Terry Long for a scare chord, in the long arcs of comics all deaths will one day be undone if only in an event.
Rabin is way too infamous not to use, only it will be done under a new team with no qualms about treating him like the audience always saw him.
>>
>>156164449
There is no point in sending the HQs of Marvel and DC back to NYC without using a public domain expansion technique on the IPs is it?
>>
>>156164126
In the far future with new editorial someone really mad at this whole thing could write MJ talking about how Pauls small penis didnt work and he was scared of boobs and kissing so all their intimacy was her pegging him.
>>
The truth no one in this thread wants to acknowledge is that even if Marvel caved and gave the fans everything they say they want, like Peter getting back together with MJ for good and having kids and whatever else, the fans would be satisfied for a grand total of five minutes, ten tops. Then they'd just find new stuff to complain about and we'll all be right back at Square fucking One.
>>
>>156164912
There are characters who had haters ascend through the ranks with agendas with far fewer loathing than Paul.
Think of DiDio with any legacy character. Paul is going to be ritually sacrificed as an offering to the audience when the new editorial comes in.
>>
>>156164959
I hope it doesn't take too long for the new editorial to realize how futile trying to please Spider-Man fans is.
>>

>>156164938
The fuck is this regressive thinking?
You'll be at a better foundation for good storytelling for a start. There will always be complaints, such is the nature of the beast, but there's a sliding scale and things that please the crowd and things that just antagonize them. Spoffice has been burning the candle of rageb8ing at both ends since Slott. It's finally hit the fingers at Wells, they have to rebuild everything.

You give the audience what they want, then build on it. Giving the audience with what they use to take for granted when the book was at its apex is ridiculous. Bring back the cast. Bring back MJ being the rock for Peter. Let Peter bounce between worlds again, a relatable but aspirational figure rather than being a glorified couch surfing voodoo doll.
>>
>>156164974
Making the fans angry is infinitely easier than making them happy, and we still haven't reached the point where the fans are so pissed off that they wash their hands of Spider-Man entirely. They've been complaining for complaining's sake for so long that they can't imagine a life without it anymore, and even if they can, it would feel weird and uncomfortable to them.
>>
The funniest thing about Gwen is that everyone forgot how she was.
I've read an article about Romita Sr's time at with Stan Lee on ASM, and one thing that struck me was that Stan Lee deliberatly made Gwen less cold like at the beginning and more like MJ, even going as far as sabotaging the latter like giving her a ugly haircut.
Its hilarious, ngl.
>>
>>156165000
Brevoort pls, I see what they do and they don't get a sale. Only shitposting.
The ongoing is inflated by speculators and dying dinosaurs, which is why the biggest Superhero IP in the world is not reliably top three comics anymore.
>>
>>156165000
No one's gonna not watch a good Spider-man movie because comics are retarded. Most Spider-man fans just don't care about the comic book.
>>
>>156165029
The sabotage of MJ from on high in favour of Gwen, and it always failing to take is baked into the brickwork.
>>
>>156165036
>Only shitposting.
But even that counts as engaging with the IP. If you really wanted to be happy, genuinely happy, you would've given up entirely on Spider-Man by now, and found something else that actually makes you happy. It is entirely your own choice to stay in the cesspool. You built a prison around yourself but the door isn't even locked.

Nope. Whiny little manbabies will keep whining and crying about stupid shit no matter what and will never be satisfied. It’s pure cope to insist that MJ is some magical fix it she stayed together with Peter when the comics struggled for years to make the marriage interesting

Paul needs to be retconned. Mental/ memory manipulation or replacement MJ, dont care. Sex with Paul and the 4 years thing has to go. Chosing paul over Peter, over and over again has to go. At this point her so called "actual life development" is so toxic and incredulous there is no way it gets forgotten and will constantly be thrown back in there faces. Like even just to have her back in is life as a friend this needs to happen. MJ is damaged goods, a selfish cunt and doesn't deserve Peters time. She would have more value if they were openly antagonistic, peter should be able to throw a little shade at her, Maybe hate fucking once in a while. Like a soap opera! Its baffling to me people think memory holing this will work when they still talk about omd. A non insignificant number of fans have suffered because this, retcon for them.
>>
>>156165073
See? You don't want to be happy, you want to wallow in shit and complain for complaining's sake.
>>
>>156165383
They keep talking about Soap Opera but they don't actually do Soap Opera shit.
If they are going to go full frathouse Maury tier stories, I would like to see some actual payoff to the drama. It's telling that Ben tell where MJ could walk off was the most old classic Peter setting boundaries we've seen in a while, and it was a barely trying imposter.
>>
>>156165386
People are emotionally invested in characters and want thier stories told well.

>>
>>156165404
No, they are entitled and want to be pandered towards and even then they would not be happy
>>
>>156165431
Wanting solid character writing that's consistent with their agency driving and reacting to the plot isn't entitled, it's basic storytelling.
Basic shit has been lacking for a long while in Marvel which has been happy to coast too long, which is why it finds itself on its back from the competition which is reinventing itself and trying to please and excite the crowd.
>>
>>156164938
>it's impossible to satisfy the fans, so just piss them off on purpose instead
Some shit you tell yourself when you don't actually want to try writing good stories because it's too hard.
>>
>>156165480
OMD gave them carte blanche to just write gimmick shit in perpetuity because there's no wet blanket wife or responsibilities to get home to the writers need to write around anymore. It's an open door for more shallow storytelling.
Totally unnecessary as well, you could have done one-shots, flashbacks or started a new ongoing for the youthful Spider-Man that was claimed to be what people wanted. Just kept the first Ultimate going or start another one up.
>>
>>156165383

>>
>>156165516
NTA but acknowledging there is even a problem with MJ's character isn't what the party line is.
Right now Spoffice is saying MJ was traumatized into that relationship which lasted canon years, but also it was all her choices and she is totally cool with things and the trauma won't affect her at all in the future. Stop criticizing product, get excited for next product. Buy her ongoing, it will have none of the things that made her popular, a new career is basically fixing the character.

Some people think a couple not actively on the oust, fighting or cheating can only be boring. Because they don't appreciate what a contrast, motivation and balm SOL stuff can be in drama and superhero romps, or enjoyed for its own sake.
There's unfortunately a lot of them in Marvel still.

The problem with DC's mainline is not that characters are boring, its that the timeline is so fucked by multiple resets in the past 20 years that any character who doesnt have a currently active run is effectively in the Shadow Realm until an author finally picks them up and flips a coin to decide whether they ought to be 16 or 30.
>>
I don't mind Peter Parker being a bachelor though. Spider-Man + MJ just doesn't work, let's be honest here for a second. He'd be better off dating different girls, like he did during BND, probably the best Spidey storyline of our time.

The flash works fine when he’s married, so does Superman and Lois. Also let’s not forget the perfect X-men couple Scott Summers and Ema Frost.
>>
>>156167381
the marriage worked. People not moving on from aunt may were the problem. People not being mature enough to move beyond the spider man of their youth. Marriage and kids were the next step. People not embracing the Status Quo Stan laid out for them was the problem.

Spider man is about responsibility, not youth.
>>
>>156167519
>The flash works fine when he’s married, so does Superman and Lois
Both are boring and hardly anyone reads or cares about them anymore. The most exciting Superman got recently was when he was benched and replaced with Prime. And before that when he had a battle planet arc, far removed from his wife.
>Also let’s not forget the perfect X-men couple Scott Summers and Ema Frost.
Never married. In fact their relationship started when he was married to someone else.
>>156167633
>the marriage worked.
If it had, married Spider-Man would be the definitive version of the character. No one truly believes that.
>Spider man is about responsibility, not youth.
If he becomes too responsible, he becomes boring. Stan Lee built Marvel on being "Not Brand Echh."
>>
>>156167705
What's the best Spider-Man story in your opinion?

The Return of the Green Goblin/The End of Spider-Man.
>>
>>156162421
>Why not go to hell and kick Mephisto's cunt in until he undoes the contract?
I have a better idea look ww both know that mephisto is the reason why Peter and Mary Jane are no longer together/married right. But we also know he is the cause of Gwen's death since by making the deal with norman he lead to to him becoming the Green Goblin. So why not simple have Doom and Spider-Man team up and kick mephisto's butt and thus force him to restore Peter and Mary Jane memories of the marriage. And also have him restore Gwen back to life bear in mind that norman's contract with Mephisto being cancelled does not just affect him it also effects Gwen's death. So this brings up the question "does this mean Gwen can come back? and the answer is yes.
>>
>>156167705
>If it had, married Spider-Man would be the definitive version of the character. No one truly believes that.

We were were talking about what worked not about what was definitive, definitive and what works is all up for debate. However definitive involves taking on more responsibility.

>If he becomes too responsible, he becomes boring.

this is subjective and ultimately retarded, taking on more responsibility doesn't make it boring it adds vectors of trouble. Saying "too responsible" means you lack of imagination and are attempting to avoid the discussion.
>>
>>156168529
>We were were talking about what worked not about what was definitive, definitive and what works is all up for debate. However definitive involves taking on more responsibility.
Newer takes on a character replace old ones which is why new Batman stories no longer resemble Kane and Finger's and new Superman stories don't resemble Siegel and Shuster's and new Wonder Woman stories don't resemble Marston and Peters's unless someone is doing a deliberate pastiche as a one-off, never as a regular thing. Married Spider-Man was tried for a while in comics, the comic strip, a few video games, and then rejected.
>this is subjective and ultimately retarded, taking on more responsibility doesn't make it boring it adds vectors of trouble. Saying "too responsible" means you lack of imagination and are attempting to avoid the discussion.
Characters who have their lives together make for stories that most people have no interest in buying. That's not subjective.
>>
>>156168689
again, terrible take. Marriage doesn't mean he has his life together. Also people are still bitching about OMD 20 years later, the marriage wasn't rejected like you are suggesting. a small group of writers got rid of it. It wasn't rejected in the comic strip either.

>Newer takes on a character replace old ones
so much for you trying to argue about definitive versions of characters.

>>156168689
>Married Spider-Man was tried for a while in comics, the comic strip, a few video games, and then rejected.

>Also people are still bitching about OMD 20 years later, the marriage wasn't rejected like you are suggesting. a small group of writers got rid of it. It wasn't rejected in the comic strip either.
The marriage was rejected by the people who matter: Marvel executives, editors, and writers. Fans were and continue to buy the book regardless. If BND's sales had cratered, they would have restored the marriage post-haste.
>so much for you trying to argue about definitive versions of characters.
What's considered definitive can change over time.
>>156168970
Gwen was just a side bonus. JMS was the one who wanted that more and got in a tizzy about wanting his name removed from the story when they wouldn't let it happen.
>>
>>156170152
JMS didn't want it, he's been pretty loud about his preference for Peter/MJ.
He just didn't care for the "and it just works" method of the retcon as it would've had far more sweeping changes that should've been acknowledged as the very history of the Marvel U would change around those events.
>>
>>156170152
>Marvel executives, editors, and writers.
Most of whom were fired and replaced just a few months before they announced OMD is being dumpstered. OMD wasn’t the law of the land because it was successful, OMD lasted as a useless sacred cow because that was what the editorial death cult wanted! Since then Marvel cancelled its most successful book out of spite, fucked up so badly that Kevin Fiege himself had to come out on the news that Dead Language wasn’t his idea, was in a situation where the thousandth issue $10 special of their biggest book came in second in dollars to a three dollar Batman book, and lost a decades long market share lead to DC. Now Marvel has to pack its bags, leave NYC, and move in with daddy Disney, which is not something that would happen because Marvel was simply TOO successful. The parent company put its foot down, made a few heads roll, and heads are in fact still in the process of rolling.

The moment cooler heads prevailed and realized, oh, my fucking job is now on the line, they ALL decided that OMD had to finally fucking go.
>>
>>156170152
BND sales were lower than during JMS's run, but Marvel was okay with lower individual issue sales because they were selling three times a month. If they weren't pushing out more issues per year, it would have been a complete failure. It wasn't bringing in new readers, at least not more than they lost.
>>
>>156170251

you are not refuting my point, marriage doesn't mean your life is too together it often makes it more chaotic. This can be true at the same time editorial makes a bad decision, which happens. Stop blaming the status quo and blame the incompetent creatives.

>The marriage was rejected by the people who matter.
>What's considered definitive can change over time.

I cant tell if I'm talking to chat bot or not. they were never going to return the marriage they hated it, hated Mary Jane and hated Peter developing into adulthood. This was a creative decision, it wasn't driven by sales.

Yeah the IP has basically sidestepped the entire early BND initiative to write MJ off forever, especially that Brevoort pitch to have her only appear again but already married to someone else. In most other adaptations and certainly in the big money like the movies and vidya, MJ and Peter are the end game.
The comics are the odd one out and haven't got the story yet that justifies it.
>>
>>156158316
>let's keep them divorced
Anon they never got divorced because post-BND they never made it to the altar. Worse, her secret condition forcing Mephisto to never fuck with Peter again so long as he lives broke the moment Spider-Man's BEST BUDDY Deadpool fulfilled a contract hit on Peter not knowing they're the same person (he never did and still doesn't). Yeah, Peter was brought back to life but MJ's clause is null and void now and Mephisto's free to screw him over.

INTENSELY shitty, vengeful writing, and as the guy who'd written the lion's share of Carol's adventures yeah Claremont was going to put the thumbscrews to the EiC who'd put Dark Phoenix under a microscope. Jim deserved it and he let the crass stupidity be called out for what it was.

So we should look at this pretty pragmatically.

Marvel clearly authorized all of this. They're the final say, there's no sneaking all the scripts and art by, this isn't like the old X-Men series with Larry Houston just giving the suits fake names to sneak characters in.

You could say this is key-jangling for sales. It very likely is. But how far are they going to jangle the keys? Zdarsky has been given a lot of opportunity for status quo rewrites and resets, including bringing back Miracleman. They have clearly given him a lot of Tom King-esque wiggle room.

Speditorial would never normally permit the cessation of OMD-induced status quo if they're the ones in charge. Paul had to be removed indirectly via Venom's editorial influence once that became its own faction.

It's highly likely Zdarsky either saw Venom editorial's success on his own, or he's been coordinating with other editorials to see what's possible.

So the clear move would be, of course, to go even further over Speditorial than Venom editorial. Avengers editorial. That's a lot more influence, especially with the upcoming movie.

And Speditorial would still be kept up to date because Spider-Man is there, even if they have limited authority over what happens there.

I think that's what Ravage is for.

I think OMD will be undone, and Speditorial's response will be to fuck that up with Ravage His ability to alter memories and the caveat that it can kill Aunt May if he messes with her head too much means Speditorial will go in one of two directions:

1. Begrudging concession at a price. OMD is undone. No more deal. Mephisto mutters something about how Aunt May isn't safe anymore right when Ravage does something to her head and kills her. Boom, "new" status quo.

2. Re-enforced status quo. Ravage fucks with Peter and MJ's memories so now they're still apart for a new reason that requires writing around a character no one else knows how to write with a power that kills people if misused.

While Spider-Man is a larger individual property, the Avengers is the one with a big blockbuster movie coming out in a month. Marvel reportedly keeps changing shit to synergize despite Feige telling them to quit it, which means their priorities will go towards whatever is the next earner.

Additionally, Spider-Man's bad luck is largely from an X-Men rights situation where Marvel doesn't fully own Spider-Man's movie rights thanks to Sony. Despite his sales, the character is a bit lower priority.

They see an Avengers movie coming up and will see Avengers comics as what sells. They're gonna do whatever they can to keep the Avengers editorial moving and putting comics out that they think will draw eyes. If they were willing to let Zdarsky remake Miracleman, a character Marvel explicitly did not want to fucking touch not just because of Gaiman's influence but also because they were paranoid about the legal rat king his rights looked like, they're going to have also been willing to hand him the big Mephisto-shaped football.

And I do not see what happens after as anything universally "good." There will be a caveat no matter what. Speditorial gets the final say in the Spider-Man comics, it's just a matter of what they prefer for optics.

All fair points, thanks for effort post anon.
Safe to say business as usual can't continue if you are at least perceived as the weak man in the industry.

I don’t think Marvel cares about OMD as much as fans think they do
Spencer was going to undo it but fucked himself by having Peter buy a ring and want to propose and from the manifesto we know he’s not allowed a stable relationship

I can easily see Ravage being used as you say
I actually want Kelly to go all in and have Peter’s memories wiped for a character study continuing his nature vs nurture with Peter and Cormac
Who is Peter Parker without the guilt and memories of those who died to teach him the lessons he needed to learn

>It's the one thing they've been consistent about for decades.
The fuck are you on about?

Peter and MJ started dating in 1974, got married in 1987, then got OMD'd in 2007. Peter had tons of girls in his 64 years of print history, but it wasn't the most consistent thing about him, him being tied down to Mary Jane ended up being what used to be consistent. It is fucking over now, but it doesn't erase the pastl

>I don’t think Marvel cares about OMD as much as fans think they do
The higher-ups? I agree. Speditorial? They want OMD because they want Peter to be a perpetual 20-teen loser struggling to pay rent with no one to love him because unless a superhero is a historical wifeguy they don't want them in a committed, stable relationship (it upsets the fanfiction writers, you see).

If Marvel cared about OMD in either direction, Zdarsky and other editorials wouldn't be able to make this play.
>>
>>156173552
Marvel hates relationships in general and sees them only as fuel for drama
People forget they were going to shit all over Reed and Sue but the reaction to OMD scared them
>>
>>156173568
Like I said, they need to be historically some kind of wifeguy. Reed/Sue, Luke/Jessica, and technically Remy/Rogue are the big ones. You could argue Bruce/Betty but they find brand new excuses for those two to hate each other all the time.
>>
>>156173568
They already had Ultimate to quench their thirst for shitting all over Reed and Sue, it wasn't going to happen in 616 either way.
>>
I don't think Peter and MJ will get together but I think they could have a one night stand resulting in MJ getting pregnant and making Peter a cuck who is stuck paying child support for the rest of his life.
>>
>>156173593
Luke was never a wife guy until the 00s. Remy was definitely not a wife guy, him and Rogue were for pure yearners. The biggest reason they're married is because people hate it when Rogue or Gambit are with literally anyone else.

Spider-Man writers could learn a thing or two about writing married couples from Rogue and Gambit. First, people like it when their favorite couples like to fuck. Second, in-law drama is great. Rogue's moms hating Remy is awesome. Why can't we get more with MJ's family? They don't need to hate Peter, just bring them around to make things interesting. I wish we got more of MJ's mom trying to fuck Uncle Ben in Ultimate.

Peter and MJ did nothing but fuck
It’s how we know Peter is in to tying up MJ and that he likes eating her out and that MJ sometimes does the “mommy” stuff
>>
>>156173958
I know the first two but where's the third? Was it that one flirtation panel in the bedroom?
From what I've read, Peter is a service top and MJ is a strong sub.

>The biggest reason they're married is because people hate it when Rogue or Gambit are with literally anyone else.
This generally happens to most characters that get a 'main' pairing over time, when too many iconic or popular runs hit that sweet spot. And over time seeing them with anyone else outside of an alt or elseworld is grating to the audience.
The exception would be perhaps Dick because he ended up in a tug of war between offices, although Barb certainly gets to enjoy a monopoly.
It's why you'll find a smorgasboard of apathetic fans for Shay and Pedro, loathers for Paul and Carlie but Chat generally enjoys a warm reception. She was doing her own thing with her own Peter, and not intruding or being a block in a longrunning 616 which has long been decided.

No it fucking wasn't lol

The comic that page comes from has her deciding to be a hero for those stupid kids after deliriously coming to the conclusion that the parasitic totem golems that MJ was told to her face were designed to make her more vulnaerable to being tracked and killed WERE actually somehow real and in need of saving after all and that she's doing it for their memory.
Peter's only contribution is that "she gets it now".

That's a big difference between attributing her desire to be hero solely to him rather than the trash that we did get.
>>
>>156174520
So much fanon gets used to fill in the blanks of what's ultimately a mess of too many cooks, cooking with rat poison.
>>
>>156173067
I mean it sill would have sucked.
Especially when Futurama did it better lol
>>
>>156173958
One of the many issues with current Peter is he's not sexual. When he's "dating" someone, there is no sexual chemistry being portrayed at all. Even when they had less freedom to depict that kind of stuff in the 60s and 70s, Peter was still more assertive with women in a way that suggested he was a guy who wanted to fuck. Peter hasn't been a guy who fucks since OMD.
>>
>>156173029
Tbf, that kind of is an accomplishment after Peter outright lost to the Vulture by being reduced to begging for his life and for Norman to save him.

For that matter, Peter never won even one one-on-one fight for the entirety of Wells' run (except when he was evil, that's it). Not one.

So whilst the bar is in hell, it does make sense that Spider-Man fans are happy Kelly at least writes Peter as capable of winning at least ONE fight.

Aside from the Peter and MJ stuff, Wells really was godawful at everything else too.
>>
>>156174606
Heck, Peter has implicitly fucked Felicia twice during Kelly's tenure, as well as Raelith.

All of them had the sexual energy of a dead sloth.
>>
>>156174574
I also thought of that one Futurama plot, but that was done with actual planning and execution, this would require so many retcons and cause too many problems that you might as well retcon the whole mess. Paul can't be playdoed into Peter, no matter how many times Wells and Ewing tried to draw a false equivalency.

>>156174606
Peter is so very passive. I feel like if anyone were to come on strong and told he was in a relationship, he would be in a relationship. And if the relationship ends, then he won't have any hard feelings about that either. It's the antithesis of romance, he has no agency or moves beyond being late for dates. Gross and tiresome to read.

>>156174634
It's a page so infamous and degrading, it's the kind of an ironic hell Mephisto would devise.
Calling the killer of your child to beg, it reads like a greentext.

Hey Marvel employee, the internet existing for longer stretches of time means people have been exposed to more and more opinions over time and thus, people are also exposed to more info and more primary and secondary sources. I can pull up the 2007/08 con panel where Guggenheim makes that rape joke or when Slott made jokes/tweets about wanting to beat people up IRL. Nobody guaranteed all this new information gathering would be nice and orderly and go in accordance with Marvel's faggot ideology. Hollywood braindead retards love to box every consumer into a meaningless mass of shit and dismiss anything worthwhile. Slott and Marvel loves this underageb& tactic because they are stunted manchildren who cling to a world long gone. Yes, I know where we are. But do they?
