No idea. The designs mostly don't appeal to me, so I stopped watching it after some episodes. The toys also seem really expensive considering they have less parts than usual.

Some context for thisThe writer/artist for this comic worked at a licensing company for apparel IIRC and they reached out to Hasbro for Transformers, specifically G1Hasbro told them something the lines of "Are these fanboys crazy? Who the fuck cares about Optimus Prime when we've got Beast Wars?"

>>156162644After starting this, I realized I ended up in the usual Optimus/Jetfire/Grimlock/Ratchet/Prowl/Jazz kind of setup, with the only real difference being using Seaspray as the kid appeal character instead of Bumblebee. It is hard to break out of what already has default archetypes. For example, calling the medic First Aid, Minerva, Red Alert, Fix-It or whatever doesn't really change what they do that much out of associated gimmicks or altmode types. Or is there a real reason you can't call your medic that has elements of the others Ratchet.In terms of distinct things, I'd want Thunderblast at least. Also I'd have Deadlock among the Decepticons. He'd essentially be Sodom but as a space robot. Best pals with Thundercracker even if they don't understand the other's altmode preferences, and the two are a bad idea echo chamber.But maybe the best way to do this is come up with altmodes and robot modes first, then assign identities. The series that seem more distinct approached it that way.

Nightbird was one of the few that had a spark inplanted into her, causing some strange developments. I like to imagine she's one of Shockwave's experiments in creating super soldiers that came out stable enough to fight. To tell you the truth, I wanted to swap around some bots to imagine what would happen if the story treated them as if they were always on that side. I like to imagine that Hot Rod would have some complicated feelings about the Autobots.

He'll be the young soldier that kids like and after some time and a severe injury will be upgraded to a more adult form and call himself hotshot. 2.Wheeljack+Ironhide will be the blue collar tech guy. 3.Jazz of course. He's the cool laid back soldier and hip. Second in command. Is the peace maker that will pull the trigger in a heartbeat when things start to go south. 4.Ratchet will be a fembot. Major bitch, tsundere type, but she's sort of brilliant when it comes to tactics, she had to be to survive without killing anyone and keeping the members of her colony alive. 5.Jetfire. Former scientist and member of the same former colony red alert comes from. Staunch anti-war and refused to choose sides. 6.Grimlock is grimlock. Will also be used as a way to bring in the rest of the Dinobots later. After the big Shockwave reveal.

Offhand, a Prowl who gets in conflict with Megatron not because he has any desire to lead but because Megatron is being inefficient/tactically unsound and favors Shockwave's logical ways stands out.

He's all about power defeating the autobots and taking over worlds. He wants ultimate revenge against the quintessans and doesn't care that their world will die in the process. 2.Starscream is needed. He's the backstabber and cunning one. But I'm really on the fence on if it should be a full star scream or if his role should be replaced by tarantulus or black arachnia. 3.Soundwave is demanded. But his altform needs to be something that can host a few other smaller transformers. I've not thought about that yet. The ever loyal quiet and deadly decepticon is a cool character. Tarantulus was a hilarious take on him but what I think would work best is a return to form. 4.Crasher from the gobots. She's a fantastic insane cackling bitch. And she woudl work great as a villainess. 5.Black arachnia/airachnia would work great and is needed for the romeo juliet thing with jetfire/silverbolt. She's twisted from the experiments and upgrades she was given by tarantulus?/herself to survive the destruction of her colony world. She joined the decepticons to get revenge against the autobots who she hates because she thinks they left her colony to die and was manipulated. If the audience warms to her then she'll become a good guy...sort of and leave the decepticons. She'll be replaced by tarantulus. 6.Brute. He is as his name describes. A giant brute. A war machine and bully who enjoys fighting battle and barely has more then two braincells to rub together until it's time to fight.

Hasbro is bad aout record keeping and the fact that he mentions they only got a few random model sheets from the DiC era GI Joe points to them just not being equipped to send out G1 art because they likely had nothing on file. If they wanted Sunbow model sheets, I doubt Hasbro had it readily available at the time, even in the 2000's Aaron Archer mentioned he had to buy guidebooks and Marvel Universe books to reference TF characters.At the same time Beast Machines was out they were planning to work on the later cancelled Transtech which would've bought back Autobots and Optimus Prime among other things, anyway. And the next year they licensed Transformers out to Dreamwave. But the difference is Dreamwave pitched the art themselves, which likely made them appealing since they basically did the major legwork. So much so that Hasbro and Takara would use the Dreamwave art in a ton of merchandise; very likely it's the first time they had art of G1 in workable files for merchandise.

At leas TRiD2015 was popular with kids, it's been 9 years since and every cartoon has basically failed and looks ugly. Transformers One was a massive let down because it just failed to look or be cool it's a victim of Hasbro and Paramount not getting what kids find cool.
>>156165014It's debatable, Armada started as American concepts engineered by Takara, some were definitely conceived with specific names(Megatron, Optimus) but others were far more flexible. I believe Aaron archer mentioned at one point when they were working with takara they referred to a lot of them not by names, but by broad concepts(Yellow sportscar, green construction vehicle, etc) It's likely due to copyright reasons and timing the US side came first, but in the design/engineering side Takara designers might've had more specific intentions when the figures were made(like Overlord becoming an Ultra Magnus homage)
