So, how long until this whole "indie revolution" crashes? It's bound to happen, these things cost hundreds of thousands and they can't rely on Kickstarter forever
>>156166324How long did it take for cable television cartoons to "crash"?
>>156166537Cable cartoons crash every few decadesThis latest era lasted from '89 to the 2020sIndie animation doesn't have the same financial security cable did so I bet it lasts even shorter
>>156166537They're still around, so until the apocalypse i suppose.
>>156166549So it always returns?
It makes me sad that "indie animation" is whatever this is. In the old days, you used to have people like Frederic Back and Stan Brakhage.
Another inorganic indie complaining postObvious proof mods are doing fuck all
>>156166324Whenever the fans run out of money for merch
>>156167944More like whenever video essay channels run out of click bait.
>>156166324It's not. The economics don't work that way. What will happen is increasingly fewer independent projects will generate enough revenue through crowdfunding/merch to sustain ongoing productions, at which point the market will slowly attrition creators until a stable equilibrium is reached. This process will also be generally correlated to the health of the overall economy and consumer spending.
>>156166324Crowdsourcing works for the same reason gacha games work. They target a few people with a lot of money instead of getting the same amount of money from a larger group of people. So maybe the answer to your question is when marketing toward a small group of people with a lot of money is no longer economically attractive.
>>156166324NEVER!
>>156166324maybe someday
>>156166324It won't be a crash, just a quiet recession. Glitch will certainly live on and so will many more humble shows (like many Newgrounds series), but plenty will simply be quietly cancelled in the meantime. The ones most susceptible to dying off are the ones who shoot too high. Long Gone Gulch for instance had detailed information and a stacked voice cast, and guess what? It's been nearly six years and there's still nothing but a pilot.
