Does anyone have any thoughts on Fairly OddParents? I've been revisiting clips of it lately and honestly, if it it wasn't for the skill issue I have which is that I am overstimulated by the show, it would honestly be a top 5 nicktoon.
It was truly one of the greats but it simply went on for too long.
>>156168652Oh definitely. I never watched the later seasons, but I heard by the end it downsized its cast so heavily. It's a shame too, because it's rare a show gets me to unironically laugh (another skill issue I have). This, SpongeBob, Rugrats and Amanda Show (which I feel ashamed of because that show is filled with controversy) are the only exceptions I can think of. Oh and Jimmy Neutron.
>>156168645I love this bit in one of the episodes Principal Waxerplax: A week of detention for all of you, you for faking your show and tell, you two for going in the girls' bathroom and YOU for trapping me in a toilet paper cocoon and promising two small boys they can enslave the earth! That's not right!Mr. Crocker: You may have outsmarted me this time Turner, but I'm onto you THEY CANT KEEP ME IN DETENTION FOREVER!Principal Waxerplax: Crocker!Timmy Turner: Or maybe they canHow the heck is Crocker allowed to get detention? That's so ridiculous and random. I love it.
>>156168645Something I never understood is people say the show is mean spirited. I mean, I get that Timmy has a mean babysitter, neglectful parents and a mean teacher, plus he gets picked on by a bully and gets made fun of by popular kids. That being said, Fairly OddParents to me never felt like it was as mean and cynical as Ren and Stimpy, Rocko, CatDog and Invader Zim. I think it helps that the show has such a lighthearted and bouncy tone to it. It feels oddly cheerful. I don't know how to describe it.
It was good until it wasnt, I want to see more porn of Wanda.
I never liked the show. It felt cheap and dated even when it first came out. Butch's writing and comedic style is just bad.
>>156168645This show was at its greatest in the early seasons when just about every character had some sort of touch of humanity to them. There were good characters, flawed characters, and downright evil characters. The jokes were usually funny and poked some fun at the absurdity of every day late 90s/early 00s life growing up, the absurdity of adults through the eyes of kids and what not. It was actually very clever and I enjoyed it even though I didn't "grow up" with it myself. However, I think they wanted to be like the Simpsons (Butch has said as much) but ultimately fell into the same trappings (shifting focus from family to the father and teacher, which both this, Simpsons, and especially South Park recently have done) AND ignored several warnings (Poochie) about sitcom writing. They were fixed to a floating timeline, but the plot was demanding the characters eventually grow up. They sort of teased the groundwork for this with Channel Chasers and giving Timmy kids that carry on the magic, but it was put aside in favor of just being another status quo reset cartoon. After Channel Chasers and especially Fairly Odd Baby, everyone's character arcs were "solved", so everything after was just white noise that degraded how we felt about the characters and showrunners. Then A New Wish comes along and its like "Yeah, we'll finally acknowledge Cosmo and Wanda being immortal lets us do anthologies, but we'll do it with a random black girl and her focus-tested friends instead with minimal conection to the old show". Felt like a total whiff even if some of ANW's ideas were great.
>>156168645One of the greats regardless of how it putter off in the end.
>>156168645I have beaten myself up for the fact that I have a lot of skill issues. If I didn't have a shit attention span (I can watch Little Bear very easily and that is a very slow paced show, yet Fairly OddParents because of its fast pace tends to lose my attention after a little while, so I can only watch one episode at a time, sometimes only one eleven minute segment at a time), it would be one of my favorite shows. I love when shows have such an expansive cast of characters. I wish they didn't downsize it's cast later on. No joke, I've literally beaten myself up and hurt my head because I hate who I am. I have major skill issues. I don't like video games, I don't really like anime (outside of a few like Tokyo Mew Mew) and I mostly like preschool shows. I'm so obsessed with Tokyo Mew Mew, I've tried posting about other stuff, even obscure stuff nobody cares about like Discovery Kids shows. And this caused me more anxiety than focusing on Tokyo Mew Mew, which makes me happier. Point is, expanding my horizons unironically makes me more miserable.
>>156169022I love that the characters had humanity to them. It's part of why I like Hey Arnold a lot (probably my favorite nicktoon). I like that Hey Arnold had nice characters and also very, very flawed characters.
>>156168645Genuinely Butch Hartman's best show and one of the best Nicktoons ever. That is, if you ignore the fall off seasons and a few episodes.Good start, but ended on a wimp.
>>156168645It's odd how despite the fact I love Fairly OddParents a lot, I never really was into Danny Phantom. I think it's because I'm not really into action shows, but even the slice of life stuff while I like that fine, it never really grabbed me like Fairly OddParents did. I'd still say I like Danny Phantom more than Cartoon Network shows though. Also, for some reason, despite the fact that (skill issue aside) I love Fairly OddParents and a close friend of mine says it reminded her of Cartoon Network shows, I have a hard time watching Cartoon Network shows without having the temptation to click off and do something else. For some reason, shows like Rugrats, Hey Arnold, SpongeBob and Fairly OddParents (even if FOP is more in small doses) interest me a lot more than any Cartoon Network show. It's a shame too since I want to like Cartoon Network shows. I think Cartoon Network shows are a bit too cartoony for my tastes, though that's hypocritical since I love SpongeBob, Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron.
>>156168645It's hard to choose a favorite character, but oddly enough despite him appearing so few times, if not my favorite, Chip Skylark is atleast a top 5 favorite. I always liked how positive he was and how friendly he was. Plus, his songs were amazing. I especially liked Icky Vicky. I'm not sure if this is my favorite line from the show, but "When do we get to the ride? This is the ride! Yippee!" never fails to crack me up. I'm surprised this show never became a merch machine like SpongeBob did. It had a lot of merch for a few years and then it just stopped having merch for whatever reason.
>>156168645Really one of the best Nicktoons and one of the best cartoons ever. Every episode from seasons 1-5 are on YouTube from the official Fairly OddParents channel and i always put it on when i need a good time. Music is also nice to listen to and the show's has one of the best rogues gallery ever.
This is gonna devolve into a Camp Sherwood thread eventually so I'm gonna get this out of the way. I like how Veronica is portrayed in that comic. First off her BPD makes my penis erect but I also like how it's written. I like how she has no control of her emotions and when she forgets to medicate her mind slips into believing she is Trixie which is nice take on how she acts in the show
It's good.Yeah, I dunno if it's for the newer generation (hell, it mostly makes references to the stuff Hartman was into).I just know that nobody was more qualified to make it, especially now that I've severely outgrown it..
>>156169269>and then it just stopped having merch for whatever reason.Must relate to Nickelodeon selling the international rights to the entire show to Nelvana for the first five seasons.
>>156168645I still remember loving the Jimmy Timmy Power Hour specials as a kidJimmy: I'm not Timmy, I'm Jimmy! Jimmy Neutron. Sanjay: Yeah and I am not Sanjay, I am Yogi Bear and I am smarter than the average bear. I don't even think kids in 2004 were super familiar with Yogi Bear. Probably a joke for their parents.

>>156168752Thoughts on the Jimmy Timmy Power Hours?
>>156169459I don't think i have ever seen any of these AMVs before. It feels very 2000s and i love it!
>>156168916I liked the humor of the first few seasons. It had a lot of adult references but literally no child has ever minded that in an overall good show.
>>156169509Does it surprise you that Hey Arnold was actually still rerunning in 2004? They made AMVs for Hey Arnold. No joke. Meanwhile, they didn't make AMVs for shows like Rocko or Angry Beavers.
>>156169557Honestly yeah, kind of surprised, but makes sense. Anyone else member Nicktropolis?
>>156169593I remember Nicktropolis. My older sister used to play it.
>>156168645Anyone here liked the episode Action Packed? I found that episode to have really cool stylized animation. I liked the times the show changed its animation style in a way with that, Channel Chasers and the black and white cartoon one.
>>156169625I miss when companies would create online communities like that. >>156169797>Action PackedUnderrated episode. https://youtu.be/H_786tjd7kc?si=Jii7zrY4GkETtK1u
>>156168872One of the more underappreciated aspects of Timmy that I felt got forgotten was how empathetic he could be. For example after beating Remy in that contest he immediately wished that Remy and his parents would spend more time together. Or when he wished the crimson chin toy would be an indestructible Vicky Insulter.
>>156170028He even went back in time for the purpose of making Crocker's life better.
>>156168645The first 3 or so seasons were pretty great. I think it started to run its course around 2005 or soAnd then the revival made things worse
>>156170096What revival specifically?
>>156170125The 2008 revival with Poof. The writing took a big nosedive quality wise and never recovered.
>>156170058He was friends with a Pop Star and a Comic Book Superhero and an Alien..Heck most of the wishes he made were to help others succeed, which in the case of people like his drama teacher did come true.
>>156170135I can understand that. Ironi ally enough it's the most viewed episode so it worked. Good for them honestly. >>156170179You mean Mr. Bickles? I don't remember any wishes going well for him.
>>156168645loved it as a kid and I would dream of having my own Cosmo and Wanda without da rules but I mostly rewatch the same few episodes I didn't finish the sequel series but I heard black Timmy tells her friends and family about her fairies which to me takes away one of my favorite aspects
>>156170679>black Timmybruh
>>156168645I found the episode where he helped A.J. win the brainathon wholesome. My close friend said Fairly OddParents felt like a Cartoon Network show, but honestly it's vibe always felt incredibly Nickelodeon to me and I mean that in a good way. It feels like one of the shows that best defined Nick.
>>156170135The episode always had me wondering how male fairies giving birth would even work. Do they still have penises? Why do female fairies have breasts then if they're presumably not the ones to nurture them? Then again, it is a kids show.
>>156168652many such cases!
S1-S4 + School's Out are a classicS5 is watchableEverything else is terrible
