Belle is a good Sonic character. She's like all the other Sonic characters, and can be pulled into whatever drama is going on seamlessly. She has the actually good question of how can you be a robot without having electronics. Just her being an automaton instead is novel for the Sonic series, which has always relied on robots, turned-into-robots, cyborgs, and magical beings.And Belle isn't even an annoyingly written personality!

Started by a man already burnt out from two previous entire settings getting nixed, set after Forces but not allowed to mention almost anything from the game's plot inuding the central antagonist, still stuck in the wishy washy vagueness of two worlds, no established worldbuilding so it literally feels like a video game world instead of a lived-in setting, being canon means nothing it does can effect anything so essentially nothing happens, and the draconian mandates that personally I think did exist for at least a few issues until Sega trusted Ian more, and with stories made for Archie but ruined and sanitized for IDW instead of making stories that would fit IDW from the start. IDW was screwed from the start and sucks in unique ways due to its origins and from being a corporate product for a series trying to keep a squeaky clean image but trying to appeal to edgy sensibilities like it used to.
