Why were Brits so good at making comics in the 80s through the 00s?
Even the shitty ones like Millar found success through adaptations of his work.

They read more than Americans. They're more intellectual. They take the craft of writing more seriously. They haven't had their brains eat by all the stuff Americans have had their brains eaten by.

I do think there are a lot of talented Americans from that time period though.

>thinly veiled seething

It was just Alan Moore. Everyone else was an illusion.
>>
>>156174895
Steve Gerber was better than every British Invasion writer besides Moore
>>
>>156175641
Howard The Duck sucked and wasn't funny.
>>
>>156175641
I've been reading Gerber over the past few years, and I'm finding he really only has one great comic, and that's Foolkiller.
I'd probably put him above guys like Millar, Ellis, Milligan, Delano, and Jenkins, though.
>>156175654
Howard the Duck is alright.
>>
>>156174895
Is there a name for this visual style? I really don't like it.
>>
>>156174895
They weren't. All of them came out with roughly the same story, told again and again with different characters. Some of them couldn't even resist putting the same fetish in multiple different stories.
>>
>>156176272
hyper realism
>>
>>156176279
I think it is dense pointilism.
>>
>>156174895
Why they give Dorothy that much ass in this image, why the focus there

Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?
Is a woman not entitled to the thicc of her cheeks?
>>
>>156175641
Steve Gerber is a crappy writer. Worse than even Mark Millar.
>>
>>156176276
Are you talking about American superhero writers?
>>
>>156175025
It seems like you’re stupider than Americans and I bet you haven’t even met one irl. I’m not an American if you’re wondering, but I might be in the future (or German).
>>
>>156176272
same, makes me uncomfortable

True based and real

The best ones just came over here
2000AD had a bunch of goofy stuff
>>
>156175628
I have Moore fanboy fatigue. Try reading something by Pat Mills or John Wagner or really anything other than the same handful of graphic novels published by DC in the 80s.
>>
>>156174895
Edgy Shit + Vague mysticism = Profit

also a more cinematic and dinamic art.
>>
>>156176272
it's just Glenn Fabry's very particular style

And this is pretty restrained for him, too
>>
>>156174895
So who's who here?
John, obviously.
Doom Patrol
Swampy
Shade
Sandman Dodds and Sandman Morpheus

The guy next to John, Animal Man?
The one next to Morpheus?
The one in the background?
>>
>>156178610
I'll answer myself:
Next to Morpheus is Kid Eterntiy
Next to John has to be Animal Man, with the dog and cat
In the background is Brother Power The Geek
>>
>>156175025
Yeah I'm sure Garth Ennis is a real intellectual
>>
>>156179211
Ennis is Irish, not British
>>
>>156177558
Mills and Wagner are nowhere near as good as Moore.
>>
>>156176807
I am american and strictly talking about comic book writers. Your insecurities tell me a lot though.
