I'm currently developing my indie cartoonHow do I make it so it's not considered "indie slop" and not like the other trash like pic rel?
But not developing it.
>>156183145By not killing off the most popular character and turning him into a tranny so you can get off on your weird fetish
>>156183145The goal would be to have something that's self contained. Indie Slop as it currently stands is always "OOooo, what do you think is happening in this world? How will our characters react to this mean thing that happened?"An example would be you can have good comedy or good action set pieces, and have that be the core of the series. You can have mystery, but it should be self contained. Like "Whats this monster of the week's weakness?" or the like.Emotional beats of, like, guilt tripping, self doubt, or panic attacks, can happen at some point, but not early in the series, and definitely not in thepilot.
>>156183145by being a good writer.these shows are all personality with no substance so just try to write a compelling story and characters people can like and want to follow.
Have life experience Watch adult shows and not just children cartoons/cartoons
>>156183145This is what happens when you make an indie pilot. Do you really want to do this to society?
>>156183145People will call it Indie Slop no matter what.
>>156183145Avoid gender BS, culture wars BS, AND quirkiness + social anxiety BS
>>156183204I swear the life experience line is becoming a meme
Avoid this
>>156183145Be nicheBut not too niche
>>156183145The moment you realize 4chan's approval is worth the same as any other online platform's (which is, diddly fucking squat) the more you can focus on creating the cartoon you want to make. Do it for your love of the medium and not for online validation from anyone.
>>156183145You better show something for how much you've been shitting up the board with 5 to 7 active indie threads at the same time.
>>156183145Are you the one spamming the catalogue with "what makes indie so bad" threads
>>156183145By not making another "indie so bad" thread that mods won't delete
>>156183288Indie cartoons have a similarity problem but it's less about the drawing style and more about the archetypes. Specifically the tumblr sexyman. The smug, lanky, kinda fruity jokester
>>156183243This
>>156183145Either don't care about what others say or this >>156183158
>>156183243This. People are dumb sheep following the latest buzzwords without actually caring about what they mean as long as it gives them clout.
>>156183362My MC is a jokester but he's not really smug, lanky or fruity. How safe am i?
Show don't tell as much as possible. A big problem with modern indie animation is that characters just vocalize their viewpoints in the most blunt way possible. Avoid prolonged venting scenes.TADC was particular bad at this
>>156183734You're already a namefag, so not safe at all.
>>156183145No woke shit.
>>156183145Male protagonist, NOT quirkchungus, play him straight.. heh. Too many of these indie shows got bitches or the faggiest "bi" males imaginable We need the classics backThink a Spike SpiegelThink Nicholas WolfwoodI'm tired of seeing quirkchungus bitches who's only worth is porn through r34 baiting
Don't use it as a platform to promote a sex cult, that's it, It's a very low bar.
>>156183250>culture warsKulturkampf
By making cartoons and not giving a fuck about what people may think of it. I swear most of you motherfuckers are /ic/ lurkers who don't even draw or watch cartoons.
>>156183786I meant in terms of character reception.
>>156183752Honestly nothing wrong with telling, it's that what was told amounted to nothing.
>>156183937Your views on female characters is honestly sexist.
>>156183145No you're not and you're just doing the same schizophrenic indie spam threads and posting the same "le indieface" images featuring completely different characters.
>>156183198>>156183201And most importantly, Never add Woke propaganda to aim the Retards of Tumblr/Bluesky nor Reddit.
>>156184222>>>/pol/
>>156183145Who cares if its "indie slop" or whatever fucking nonsense term people come up with to label shit they don't like? Just make something (you) want to make and disregard people trying to tell you what you're allowed to create.
>>156184251Fuck off, tranny
>>156184255It’s inevitable; people will see it and like it.
>>156184295>>>/r9k/I rebuke your insults and lies by the way.
>>156184313Honestly to enjoy such things is simply to be toxic and the reason why people don't want to be fans of anything anymore, they don't wanna deal the nonsense of people like ya.
>>156184328Retard
>>156183145stop listening to people who have already decided they hate you
>>156184351I rebuke your insults, lies and thought terminating cliches.
>>156184341Evergreen
>>156184359I think i spotted a leftist bot.
>>156183274He's right though. And also practice writing. The problem with many of these showrunners is that while their designs are interesting and cool to look at, in terms of substance they tend to fall flat.
>>156183145>If I put cute girl in for the internet to lewd-Don't rely on this, if you do your shows only legacy will be how much porn it got made, not whether or not it's actually good, if you want to rely on it just double down and become the next Derpixon... God I miss derpixon
>>156184161Namefags don't deserve real answers.
>>156184370>women>black women>trans women>kid women
>>156184443>trans womenAn Unnatural Body-horror will never be a woman nor a man
>>156184385Then I want you fags to tell me what life experience I need before I'm allowed to make a showMy time is running out, I'm 35, poor, a virgin and we are soon to experience an economic crisis that could very well kill me via starvation What the fuck do I have to do? I hear life experience life experience every goddamn day with little to no elaboration I'm a fucking loser
>>156184222>>156184251This dude isn't /pol/.Same thing is happening with all of these Mascot horror gamesOne of the biggest issues with the whole "e-celeb to legit" pipeline is that these are some of the only game in town for a lot of 2d animation or 3d modeling animation talent whose prior careers left them with the dough to make actual shit
>>156184525Is all the same and never done right.
>>156184540There's potential, always wasted.
This is the target audience of indie animation. Have this person in your head whenever you make any decisions for your cartoon
>>156184550Especially with this one, this is just garbage.
>>156184559And remember how Trannies and leftist ruined SCP.This is the same people who like these Indie shows.
>>156183145You shouldn't care about this, because your goal first and foremost is to tell a good story you are passionate about. People will find issue with everything. They are also hypocrites or don't truly believe what they are saying - there are tons of people bitching about open world games, mascot horror, and zombie games being oversaturated and boring, yet these are some of THE most sought-after and repeatedly successful things in the market year after year.Make what kind of story you want to make but ensure it is genuinely well-written and enjoyable. "Therapyslop" either wouldn't exist or would be totally acceptable to people if the cartoon was actually good in the first place. Also make it about TDMs or otherwise short, cute anthro women.
>>156184554People finally figured that out.
>>156184525>>156184540>>156184550>>156184559>>156184568This kinda makes me wish i never gave up on my horror parody concept but i feel now it's too late for such an idea.
>samefagging>posting the same images in every one of these indie seethe threadsSomeone's application to work for GLITCH got denied I'm guessing.
>>156184594Then don't give up, pick that concept back and bring it on
>>156184606You?
>>156184607Well i would honestly love to. But should i keep it as a game or rework it into a cartoon?
>>156184624Game is easy, but that's your choise to make.
>>156184550the raptor looks awesome i dont mind dinos
>>156184643Honestly yeah, that would make the most sense. Although honestly when i imagined it as a cartoon inspired by Glitch shows i created a new who i ended up loving but i need to rework her to fit the concept as a game. I mention this because i love to share behind the scenes fun facts and trivia.
>>156184161Again based on your persona, it's not gonna be safe.
>>156183145>Read Books (preferably Classic Literature) . At least 30 minutes a day. Try to actual develop an opinion about it instead just mindless consuming it.>While your at it, Read Books on Writing and Screenplay >Journal daily. Whether it’s what happened that day or any ideas you have in mind. Even just 5 minutes a day will do.>Have influence from real life and other media that isn’t just other cartoons/anime fans your show.>Get out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s real experience you haven’t tried or genres of media you consumed.>Remember that the most meaningful stories in your life are the ones that explain why you do a certain thing, apply that to the show you are making
>>156184494Maybe start by basing characters or scenarios off of personal experiences. For instance, jokes people tell to you or jokes you tell others would make for something funny, or maybe things you've dealt with or seen with your own eyes beforehand.I remember listening to Mike Judge's interviews for both his cartoons and he said a lot of his inspiration for his characters comes from people he met or knew in real life. Boomhauer, as an example, was based on a real phone call he got during the production of Beavis and Butthead where some seeming drunk who spoke real fast kept going on about some "porky's butthole".Office Space (the movie is not a cartoon, but the original short was) are two projects based Mike Judge's actual, former job as an engineer. Dealing with stupid people and bosses with inflated egos that just don't give a shit.At the end of the day, art imitates life. A creative expression of ones own life and ideas. The biggest reason I find many of these indie shows suck is because many of these creators write scenarios they know nothing about, then fill in the blanks with media they've seen before. Gooseworx only worked a wagie job for like three days before quitting, and on top of not having much writing experience, the burger episode where Gangle freaks out feels unearned. It could only ever hope to be something as resonant as Office Space. If you wanna avoid gay, cliche writing, at least write what you *know* instead of following tropes.
>>156184769>Trying to grind culture instead of already being inspired by itNGMI You either have it or you don'tTrying to do this shit late in life will just be overcompensating
>>156183243This. No matter what you make a group out there will hate it. Just make what you want to and if there's an audience they'll find it.
>>156183145As other anons said. Make a good story and do not be afraid to tell it. Dont try to appeal to twitter weirdos.Depending on what your show is about, try to be sincere. Know youre audience more than anything else and stick to them. Do not deviate entirely from what your show is about. Shows like Tadc and Gamoverse really love to try to be serious and keep when the show itself was clearly not made for that.
Why the fuck do people need to follow long lists and directions before making online cartoons now?Back in the day people just made their web series and posted it on newgrounds Now you have to take 100 writing classes, must have an interesting life, and all sorts of shitI think this is what I hate most about the indie boom
>>156183145Have at least 1 scene with a girl who is either naked or wearing a swimsuit that shows a well defined ass
>>156184826Because the post 2019 indie scene isn't about making "online cartoons" It's about desperately trying to recreate television This is exemplified by the amount of former industry people (like Dana or Matt) going indieStudios aren't hiring so now they're trying to set up shop on YouTube. This is why indie shows now have budgets in the hundreds of thousands
>>156183145Don't make it tumblr-coded. It's that simple. However will say to make a genuine good cartoon you should enjoy the act of drawing. Surprise how many indie "artists" just want to be producers & hire others to do the actually animating.
The more time that passes, the more I'm convinced most indie related complaints are primarily driven by jealousy There may be kernels of truth but a lot of the time it feels like most translate to "it should have been me"
>>156183145>How do I create something that will not be butchered to death by a horde of grifting edutainment dramatubers who exist to parasitically leech energy off of creative talent and SomethingAwful/Kiwifarms with their sharty and discord footsoldiers who actively look for skeletons to rip out of people's closet if they get popular enough and try using that info to suicide troll their victimsI don't know if you've been paying attention, but we're sort of in the "trials and tribulations" part of the bible recently if you've cared to look outside.
>>156183145If you consider pic related trash that's a pretty bad start nglIt's one thing to have complaints but to dimissing one of the most successful shows off the bat isn't great. Not being able to appreciate its merit implies a lack of humility and a lack of understanding of the craft
>>156184826This is basically another "shit on the most popular indie stuff" thread masquerading as an idea guy thread masquerading as an advice thread. OP may not have an actual project let alone any real progress but he'll feel very productive for having a thread full of advice he might have done if he were already successful.
>>156183145Just make the show you want to Anon if you aren't confident in your own art who else will be
>>15618314526 episodes. And don't have an ending or "non filler" episodes. Just make a fun, full length show. And leave room open for more seasons. You're welcome. And remember animation first, story and writing never important.
>>156185294See, if you target YouTube kids you still get all the ad revenue and merch sales and kiwifarms will have no idea who you are
