Quite a while ago I posted here about how I really wanted to make a VN that was similar to Ayano's WG. If anything everything I know about painting styles have been through some step by steps i've gotten from other artists i've done trades with as well as experimentation of my own.For this specific pic I can give a few tips on stuff I did.1) Large Canvas, the full rez is about 4000x38002) I'm using an oil paint brush I downloaded from somewhere ages ago that for the life of me I can't remember where I got it from. However you could probably find a better oil brush somewhere or fiddle with the existing ones in CSP (this is the program I use)3) the way I do my rendering is kind of a hybrid inbetween from standard digital art practice and digital paint where my shadows and highlights aren't on the same layers but I am applying painting on the multiply layers for shadows in the way I would if I were painting on the flat color itself with a bit of a twist. Instead of using an eraser or a clear brush to fine tune the edges I use a white brush to shape the shadows and details. Since white doesn't show up on Multiply layers this gives a nice blending effect to the shadows I paint on the multiply layer.4) Correction layers are your best friend. I used Tone Curves to enhance the intensity of my colors after all was said and done, as well as I use a Hue/Saturation/Luminosity layer to add more to my shadows by tweaking the hue a bit, then turning down the saturation and luminosity. Then I empty the mask and paint in the now empty layer mask on where I want the changes applied on the picture.5) One final thing is that I use overlay layers to clean up the rough edges of my rendering with one layer being a perline noise layer above everything and an overlay layer that I use a rough wash water color brush to give some extra texture here and there.
