OP there's no need to take it off I can promise you of i have found ways to work with it for over 13 years no compromise to cut depth angle or usable disk and it has the benefit of keeping sparks in one direction

I take the guard off so I can change discs more easily. Aint no way am I gonna keep track of where that dumb wrench is.The only time I miss it is when I break a disc (at rest) by accidentally bumping it with something or if it falls a short distance or whatever.
