I want to learn fpv during my lunch break at work. I have a mid range smartphone. What controller, and compatible simulator should i purchase?
>>2975974radiomaster pocket is fine. dunno about any android sims.running over bluetooth will have some input lag fyi.
>>2975974Phone sims suck dick Radiomaster pocket, 18650s and literally any RECENT sim Also unpopular opinion, flying a DJI drone like a nwo with an RC3 kinda helps fpv a little Flying a DJI feels like driving a Prius in eco mode, then when you power on a ELRS controlled fpv drone and you hear telemetry on…. It’s like getting behind the seat of a modified dodge viper, no abs, no traction control, manual transmission with a race clutch Even a whoop feels fucking powerful and sporty after a day or two of flying a DJI neo
FPV drones are for hohols and pidors fuck you faggots
>Local fb group posted “drone parts. Free.”>“Oh, sweet. I’d like to know how to build a whoop.”>picked up the box and came home with these treasures. >mfw.png
>>2976836Always dreamed this kind of set up 7 years ago but was too poor to afford it. Even though I already have O4 pro quads, I’ve always wanted to try build and try analog. The box came with extra AIO ESC’s, cameras, motors etc… I got a fuck ton of batteries that are 5+ years old and idk if they’ll charge well but the ones I’ve tested had a steady ~3.7v.
>>2976836>>2976839nice find, anon
>>2976839keep those used lipos in a vented ammo can just to be safe. who knows if they were ever discharged past 3v
>>2976839Man, I would've skipped away if he only gave me the motors. Nice. Make good use of those!
I'm going to buy another ELRS radio. I have a Boxer and it's basically perfect for my current mostly quadcopter needs, but I'd like a few more switches or buttons for futureproofing. I'm looking at a GX12 Crush currently because the TX16 looks like overkill (I don't care about a color display or touchscreen). Is there anything else I should consider?
>>2976836Holy fucking treasure trove
I'm currently waiting for 2 micro cars to arrive; a Jiabaile 3601 1:36 crawler and a HStar D43 1:43 drifter
And here the drifter, it's diecast even
>>2977564Whats the make and model? Cost?Last RC anything I had was a pontiac firebird Radioshack ZipZap, my brother had that same jeep.Wanting to get back into it

>>2976435Eat shit. Hobbyists made this work, and slavs all went to fight in an endless Jewish war with our project.
>>2976836Damn, those 2-3 inchers look like fun! Good set overall!
Found the dji goggles for $300 in Japan. Snagged firefly18 for msrp somehow. How can anyone compete with this quality? This is a fucking o4 lite, this is ridiculous.
>>2980231It is indeed ridiculous, I expected other chinkware companies would have caught up by now...
A bit off subject but how hard would it be to create a follower drone with talking ai? I feel like the tech is already there but no one is making them.
>>2980317You better add Weebo to that collage
>>2980318wow, I forgot that character exist. What a great design.
>>2980317>Battery tech is ages away from being reasonable for anything flying (you will change that pack multiple times an hour) >Have fun miniaturizing the computing and other hardware to make a buddy robot (also, see point one again)>Other than impromptu selfies it wouldn't be able to offer many functionalities a phone can't already do>VRRRRRRRR behind/beside you constantly with available propulsion methods for flying >If you make your bot ground-based instead it's now constantly underfoot and likely in an urban hellscape begging to get trampled upon and caught in obstaclesIt could probably be done as a proof of concept if you use 5G to offboard the computation, but we can't practically make anything like that now in a way that's better than wearables or just a phone.
>>2980321Strap an Amazon Alexa to a DJI neo DJI neo already has hand signals, voice command, follow orders. Also has the nest in your palm land feature Throw an Amazon echo or a speaker that connects to an off board Amazon echo and you can mimick Star Wars robots in the real world why you would do this no idea DJI neos are kinda cool, had one when I hooked up with this girl I was seeing shortly and made a little video with her Video looks cooler than it really was in reality that Neo is loud as fuck and kinda kills the mood a little
>>2980363That kind of solves the miniaturization issue but not the rest. Even with magic nuclear batteries I can't see a commercial version of the idea doing well so long as propellers are being used for lift without some giga autist giving us way quieter blades. Even that would leave the "why" question open since a set of wireless earbuds connected to your phone gets you all of the voice command stuff unobtrusively and your fancy selfie camera can just deploy when you need it (maybe at a voice command, even). Until AI or drones are more capable, those abilities seem better separated.
>>2980371I’m not sure what battery my DJI Neo is because it’s encased in plastic and has a proprietary 3 battery charger at one time thing But they look to be about 2S lipos and I’m getting pretty good flight times out of it Again you’re right a DJI Neo is a flying selfie camera that follows you there really is no reason to have it follow you around all day But since it has onboard gps and return to home on battery low signals You could theoretically have it go home to a dock and charge wirelessly roomba style through nagsafe style connection All the tech is there but again it’s basically just a flying phone Actually now that I think of it, if you just incorporate an AI search engine into the DJI fly app you don’t even need the Amazon Alexa (you have to connect the DJI Neo to your phone when flying line of sight, to fly fpv you just connect to a controller and headset the N3 or the goggles 3, those things are expensive though I bought the goggles 3 for $550 and the N3 were like $275 and regret both, if you want a DJI drone just fly from your phone or RC3)
>>2980317Hope you have a loud ass speaker.
>>2976836Fuck! I should join Facebook again.
fuck you and your high CG chassis, ECX, I have a 3D printer and too much time on my hands
Anyone have a gps speedometer they recommend for a rc car?
>>2981325I'd just strap my phone to it, personally
>>2976836I did that on Craigslist once (got raped, it turns out though).
>>2981325Install beta flight on a flight controller, then GPS is just another $10-20
Got a dji mini 4k and I flew around for a few minutes and now I’m bored and don’t know what to do. I lose connection fairly quickly due to buildings
>>2981986You got a camera drone and decided to use it around a bunch of obstructions? That's a you problem. Radio waves aren't magic. More data speed means shorter range, and HD video takes a lot of data. Get out of the city if you wanna go fly. Just don't do anything retarded that'll give the FAA more excuses.
>>2981325I use my bike computer (lezyne macro)I'm sure there are plenty of cheap ones on amazon now
I thought the ban was just on dji stuff I didn't realize it was ALL NEW DRONE OR DRONE RELATED SHIT goddamneven if I don't fpv, transmitters, receivers are affected. Are ESCs affected? Servos? Anything car related? I was looking forward to the new digital fpv systems too like openipc and beta but looks like we're fucked there too. With ELRS and Edgetx (and openipc) being open source could we just make tx/rx in burgerland out of arduinos or rpis? Or are the rf chips chink only too?
>>2982169The FCC is finding out that what they tried to push was retarded. Nobody is obeying that shit.
>>2982169Yeah and ELRS just dropped support for non-Esp32 based hardware So with the newest iteration of ELRS they no longer support the only NDAA compliant chip. So you’re stuck with literally one tbs crossfire reciver and transmitter If I was tbs crossfire knowing federal agencies and statesite businesses that contract with the government have to comply I’d be jacking up their prices to hellfire missle prices as they have no alternative other than go pro on a kite
>>2982169The FCC ban is targeted at products that are both1. New to market2. UAV specificOr3. Fuck you, DJI, ROFLMAOIf you're just bashing you should be fine until the already approved radio equipment loses support/popularity, but I expect them or another agency to try something a step further within a few years. Heck, the FCC already said they wanted to regulate parts outside of their jurisdiction but then had to walk that back, I expect more attempts as wartime UGVs gain popularity. Don't panic, but stocking spare parts would be wise.
>>2982252well it's still open sourcecould Intel theoretically fab something compatible here?although it would be a gorillion dollars, no competition allowed huh>>2982257but do they define uav specific I mean any rc thing could be argued as uav specific
>>2982689They're doing their level best not to define anything unless they're nailed to the wall or it's convenient for them and I'm running on memory. You may want to read those statements yourself if you're interested, they aren't all that long or jargony.>I mean any rc thing could be argued as uav specificLawyers will always try to torture language and logic until text means what they want it to, but as written, the aerial SPECIFIC requirement should mean that any (common) basher part you want shouldn't be a concern because your car doesn't fly. Commonality would mean legality even if an RC plane uses the same parts. Shared parts are (should be) safe, but I don't expect this to be the last restriction and with the right lawyer and wrong judge anything can happen.
>>2975889I need a motor to operate up above 75C, preferably up to 90C. What’s the chance a random cheap little alibay BLDC will handle this continually? What about a cheap brushed DC motor? If I understand, it’s the curie point of the magnets that are often the limiting factor, that and the lubrication in the bearings, brushed motors are more likely not to use ball bearings so I guess they’d be worse, but I think they also don’t use rare earth magnets so maybe they’d be better? I can probably test a BLDC by dunking it in a pot of water as it boils and spinning it continuously while measuring the temperature, not sure about a brushed motor. If I do have to buy a special high-temp motor for this, do you guys have any recommendations! As cheap as possible really, just for some low-speed rotation of a filament spool as it dries. If needed I can gear-down by a factor of ~50 or so using belts, so I wouldn’t want an extremely fast motor. Also I don’t plan on having a ratchet mechanism or whatever, so being backdrivable is a must, no gear-motors. Steppers are an option, but high-temp steppers get expensive from what I’ve seen.
>>2983045there's high temp grease available. since you're printing things just print a way to have the motor rotate the spool but be outside the dryer enclosure. yes the magnets will degrade.
>>2983068I want to weigh the spool as it dries, so the motor must be mounted to the filament holding base.I didn’t think it was a matter of degrading but rather of perfectly functional vs completely dead. A half-dead BLDC might still have enough torque for a slow rotation.
>>2983076Or maybe I can just put fan blades on the thing, so the fan’s airflow spins the filament…
>>2982169Just a tip, if you plan on ordering anything overseas that is "banned"Just order it from those chinese websites like banggood or aliexpress instead of direct from manufacturer. CBP goes after packages sent from specific exporters, and if they're targetting a company like DJI or flywoo they'll intercept those packages.Aliexpress, alibaba, and all those shit chinese websites would be impossible for CBP to enforce.
I want to build my own shitty quadcopter. Any good starting point? I can figure out stuff by myself just want some help from more experienced people
>>2983747Joshua Bardwell is your friend. Check the OP.
>>2983076just weigh the entire contraption.............................................
>>2983747Honestly just buy a tiny whoop and a t8l Fly line of sight in your house until all this war shit blows over in a year or twoIf you start building a drone now by the time you’re finished soldering the last motor wire to your esc, the FAA will make it a felony to fly whatever microprocessor your FC is running without an experimental aircraft autorotation and a part 107
>>2975889Hey ya guys. Just a question, is it alright to play a drone simulator with a game controller? I'm gonna try Liftoff with just a PS controller. Though if I need to use an RC to play the simulator, is the RadioMaster Boxer good?
>>2984827You can play using a game controller but you won't get the best experience because the Y-axis autocentering on the left stick will mess with your throttle control. I also don't like them as much for fine control. If you're really just dipping your toes in to see if you like the idea at all it is doable though. I found it helpful to set things up so the quad just about hovered at center throttle. The Boxer is a great controller, but you can save a few bucks going for a Pocket or Zorro instead.
>>2984855I'd recommend against the Zorro. The batteries are too damn small, so the runtime sucks.
>>2975889I am very confused by the terminology used. Drone to my understanding is an Unmanned Vehicle. UAV to my understanding is an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. A quad copter is a machine that has 4 vertical thrust. RC is a remote control device. What I am trying to figure out is what is a vehicle that doesn't have an RC controller attached to it called? And what is going on in that realm of things.
>>2985032Usually you just add "autonomous" to the term; drone was supposed to refer to autonomous vehicles, but the term has evolved till the point it usually means "RC quadcopter".
>>2985054We can thank the news and normies for that. The mainstream sucks so hard. How does anyone tolerate it?
Wanted to start the hobby 2 years ago but was broke, now I'm less broke and willing to start with a simple / freestyle build from scratch.I did my studies but the market has probably changed, what's standard entry level stuff now?Was thinking about buying a Radiomaster Boxer, alternatives are second hand Taranis controllers which can be cheap but I'm not sure it's a good option.Should I go digital or analog for the headset?Any other tips or opinions on the matter?
>>2985086radiomaster boxer or pocket whatever you get make sure it is ELRS. If you can afford digital get it, if not then analog is cheaper than it's ever been.
>>2985054>>298505620 years ago I was playing with small DIY autonomous vehicles, 2nd hand RC cars. I attached a BASIC Stamp to an ESC. I was inspired by the DARPA grand challenge autonomous driving stuff that happened in 2004-7. Basically I was poor and wanted to explore this in my own way. Today they make toys today that basically do what I was doing. I'm looking into it because my eldest is 7, we already play with Legos Scratch platform and he just started python for kids. Thanks for saying "autonomous" because the Internet is clogged with stuff about drones that has nothing to do with autonomous vehicles and I couldn't find anything useful. I was frozen trying to find what's out there. So far I found ROV2 FOR RPI which also uses Python. Which sounds perfect for father son project, next year.
>>2985186>just started python for kidsSo, Python?
>>2985186I find terminology is one of the biggest roadblocks to learning on the internet. It's what was holding me back when I tried to do ground vehicles.
>>2985209Yes but the environment is very controlled. Basically a web IDE that is used with assets within the website. Once he completes the courses in the walled garden I'll get one of my RPIs and install the ROV2 (just a modified Ubuntu distro) and we will get going.
>>2985209Look at how cool and super advanced he is. He'd never be caught dead doing anything beginner friendly.
>>2985086Just buy both I have analog ev800d goggles I removed the lens part and mounted on a tripod Then bought goggles 3 and n3 , goggles 3 are wayyyyy more comfortable
I got myself a radiomaster pocket and a couple sims (for fun & realistic) but good lord those controls are absolutely inhuman.Maybe it's easier when you have goggles on but all the flipping and changes depending on your angle keep my head spinning.Like, I'll move the stick to do something I need the drone to do which worked last time but since this time I'm leaning slightly it moves completely differently and...It's just so confusing.Any tips on how I can improve at controlling drones, please...? Some general rules of thumb.>inb4 practice
>>2985800Practice. Sorry, but that's what the Sims are for and goggles don't change that aspect much. Beats walking out to flip your copter or breaking parts though, right? It sounds like you might need to Ender's Game your piloting; the top of the drone is up. Always. I wonder if turning on the horizon markers might help you as well.
>>2985814The sim game I'm playing has a setting where you (per recommendation) set the angle of the drone to -30 at all times so you're always moving forward.Should I disable this or is this something pilots do on normal drones as well?
>>2985839Lower angle=more aggressive flight. I think around 30 is common for racers, but I like mine more like 20. If you aren't blasting around and favor more of a cruising style you'll also want a more neutral angle. Starting out, you may want to choose a more neutral angle and then change it as you adapt. Playing with your rates (making the craft less sensitive all around) and expo (making the drone more or less sensitive at the extremes of stick movement) can also help.
>>2985839start on horizon mode, then go directly to acro as soon as you can.
Want to build drone to deface billboards. Have full machine shop, 3d printer, extensive microcontroller/electronics experience. Possible and where to start?
>>2976839>>2976836Thats ridiculous. I guess either someone died or a company died and all people involved were way over it to the point of spite. A lot of money there.
>>2986033Why not tape a wet paint brush to one?
>>2985800it really is practicei stopped flying for 2 months, went outside today and crashed about 15 times in angle mode with a tony whoop in my yard fly more and more and don't stop angle mode just means the drone doesn't return to level when you're done pushing the stickyou know in horizon you can thorrlte up, then inch forward then the drone goes back to level in angle mode if you inch forward it will keep going forward forever until you tilt it back a littlehorizon mode is good for indoor flying
>>2986957>i stopped flying for 2 months
Is there a way to actually amplify a drone’s RF?I have an autel Evo v2 III thermal drone that I use for hunting/scouting game but I don’t get anywhere near the advertised 8 miles or so before I start to lose signal. To be clear I don’t want a directional antenna like the 4hawks or alien gear or whatever but to actually amplify the Omni directional antenna.I’m not opposed to building my own setup, but I’m pretty new to drones and don’t really understand radio frequencies so I wouldn’t even know where to start. To be clear I don’t really care about FCC regulations or line of sight bullshit.
>>2987034>To be clear I don’t really care about FCC regulations or line of sight bullshit.First of all, based.Second, check if you have some cucked FW that limits the output. and if you can flash something from an unregulated country.
>>2986957You're confusing angle mode with acro mode. Horizon mode is just angle mode, but it lets you flip at full stick deflection.
>>2987056Whoops got my bitch modes mixed up
Don't dox yourself if you are, but any other anons here doing igow? It's fun to have a reason to fly.
>>2987225I'll be participating. We don't have to complete all 3 goals for each challenge right? Is there any penalty if you only do one or two?
>>2987229Nah right now it's preseason and the only requirement is that you submit a video of you attempting one if you want to be entered into the prize draw pool. Once preseason is over and the actual game begins there will only be one goal per challenge.
>>2975889how do i get moneyi want to do thisHS dropout neet 22 years old
>>2987329not that expensive, to do the whoop challenge thing all you need is $125 whoop off of amazon, $35 Radiomaster T8L and $100 goggles and like $20 batteries and a $40 charger you can like sell anime figures and watch sales and youll get all that
>>2987329simulator + cheap ELRS radio, go from there.
>>2987229i'd probably say pass on the trick that will have you crashing your drone into your dick, then hitting the back of your head if you're lucky but most likely going to crash into your face >>2987329if you just add stuff to your cat they just give you money and discounts. i bought a radiomaster t8L despite having a boxer max already solely because they gave me $20 off of it for having it on my watchlist just the other day i got $15 off any purchase through another app to buy drone parts if you just do that you can build a whole whoop setup for less than $100 plus 5% back with credit card stacking obviously paying it off right away just using it for the discount
>>2987321Nice good to know. I did the first 2 goals for each challenge so far but haven't actually submitted anything yet. I just bought some pvc so will be hopefully easier to practice with instead of hoping no kids are using the playground.
Anyone have thoughts on a nice small quad that can carry an o4 pro? I want something small to take while traveling for nice videos. I know the Eagle 2 is well reviewed but I wasn't sure if there are better options. The flylens 75 looks good as well.
>>2987352i see>>2987340>>2987342perhaps
>>2975889Had a run where I was really getting into all this awhile back. Took a break but now I'm back into fpv. I bought a refurbished pair of DJI goggles V2, the idea being I could use them for DJI air units(is that what they're called?) and then use a receiver module for analog flying. Is that a good setup in [current year]?
>>2987507By receiver module do you mean for your radio? If so then you can use the DJI controller 2 I think which will use the same connection link as your goggles to the air unit. Otherwise what most people do is they have an ExpressLRS radio and connect that to the elrs receiver on their drone. Analog here usually refers to the analog video system, which you're not using if you have DJI
>>2987507Goggles V2 won’t work with DJI 0-4 air units. DJI goggles do not support the use of external modules You can do 2 things with your DJI V2 goggles : fly any DJI drone that is supported with the goggles as long as you also pick up a DJI controller, motion controller or cellphone controller. Or Buy an 0-3 air unit, build an fpv drone, but you need to buy an edge tx / ELRS controller DJI does not sell a module to pop into a radio master receiver unfortunately Most people that fly DJI drones AND fpv analog drones just buy all this: goggles 3, DJI remote control, ev800d or similar analog goggles and an Radiomaster ELRS radio I personally own: goggles 3, goggles n3, ev800d, DJI motion controller, fpv controller and a Radiomaster boxer max, however inn2026 I’d buy the tx16s max oh yeah and also a t8L
>>2987558>DJI motion controllerHow's that thing? Looks interesting
>>2987507I've got the goggles v2 and they're great - they'll work with air units up to the o3.For a while I used the BDI Digidapter which let me use my crossfire module for analog in it. I've since switched to HDZero for racing and high speed stuff, but still use DJI when I need to do cine stuff.
>>2987571Awkward, I’m not a fan of it for flying but I use it as a little mouse to navigate the menus inside goggles 3
Do you guys think using a drone camera system and transmitter would be viable for a racecar? The tracks are usually less than 6km in length. A lot of elevation changes, but if the receiver antenna was mounted on a tall enough pole it should work right? The other options seem to be cell tower and starlink, but they are either heavy and/or expensive. What would you use if you were trying to design a camera system for a race car?
>>2987640I think the pros do things with repeaters?? So you'd have video repeaters about the racecourse. Getting signal near the ground at distance can be tricky.>>2980231*crying in hdzero. Is that goggle footage?
I want to get a frame cut for the first time. Is there anything I should know or be aware of? What should I use for M2 clearances? Currently I am using 2.3mm for my 3D printed prototype. Can anyone recommend me a Chinese company to do this?
>>2987749
Just started, bought a Radiomaster Boxer and currently training on simulators.I was thinking of buying some Dji goggles v2 (found them second hand for 150 euro) and radio receiver module, as my plan is start out with analog (cheaper to fix I destroy anything) and later switch to digital also for a progessive budget use.Any better recommendations?
just spent 400€ on drone shit...
>>2988402hardware store, probably near the paint section.
Someone please help me decide between an iFlight Helion and a TBS Mojito for extreme LR and FAST mountain surfing. Also wildcard option is an iFlight XL10 in glorious analog.Currently using a Chimera 7 and it feels a bit slow now.
We've seen a lot of pic rel in ukraine threads lately. I get that they're built after he fastest drone worldrecord thing, but what's the reason they're using four motors instead of just three to enable a cheaper way of six degrees of freedom? Just afraid of amps?
>>2988962Three motors/props means you have two spinning one way, and one spinning the other way, making the drone yaw (or probably roll in this case since the camera is at such a steep angle). Normally tricopters get around this by putting a servo to tilt the motor in the tail to offset this, so there goes your cost savings. Motors are cheap, and quadcopters with gyro stabilization and PID control are God's perfect flying killing machine.
>>2988974I don't really get why you need to tilt a motor to reduce yaw. At least it sounds unnecessary in my kinematic imagination. I'll probably check out some tricopters.
>>2988978Same reason helicopters have a tail rotor.
What are good options for an fpv that can do either RTMP or RTSP livestreaming? The only options that I find are DJI.
>>2988978It's not to reduce yaw, it's to control it. And you can't control yaw on a tricopter the same way you can on a quadcopter, by spinning two opposing rotors slightly faster. >>2989273for what purpose?
>>2989282For broadcasting a live footage. I already have a DJI and the ability to stream RTMP natively already comes out of the box. Obviously It's not fpv and I want to try to replicate the same thing but with that style of platform.I have a MediaMtx server at home that handles intake and broadcasting to other devices but I need someway for the livestream to get there. I think an option is for an fvp with a walksnail installed and having my phone handle the broadcasting.

I was into rc like a decade ago and this one vehicle was quite amazing, but expensive.I can't remenber the name but it looked almost exactly like this. I think it was chinese made, but it wasn't this cheap, it was around 1000-2000usd.Anyone know what I'm talking about?
>>2986333why should he do that when he could build and overly complicated drone that obviously has an illicit purpose, and should he ever crash it and get it stuck, it will be almost instantly traced back to him
>>2988974>>2988962also power to weight ratio is still positive, more stability and more faster. they could be even more potent with 6 rotors but then range drops off by 50%
best way to break and jam?

>>2991523I dislike the look of those type of cars, they have/had type, wonder if it's possible to get other bodies. Also the expense of two sets of batteries, charger amd a nice controller is really going to add to the price. I expect like 3k usd at least if I am to get into it again.Considering I was using an x-maxx and upgraded it, I didn't get to bash too much, I feel like arrmas new talion is more my thing now.Is there a controller that is generally the go-to? I recall it being very annoying adjusting esc stuff through your phone, if it can be done in the controller without issues, that'd be amazing.
>>2991536I don't know if the spektrum transmitters can do programming over the transmitter. iirc they have some type of battery telemetery which is nice, but other manufacturers have that too now.on my NB4+ the only ESCs that I know of that can be setup on the fly are the high end race focused hobbywing ESCs via IBUS or the crawler focused xerun axe r3most ESCs are still stuck with programming cards or if you're lucky internal bluetooth for programming/data logs/updates.>generally the go-to?there's a lot of good options you'd need to look into yourself, flyskys ANT and afhds3 protocols, futaba, dumbo/radiolink, radiomaster mt12 if you like fucking with edgetx.I just got my NB4+ for the response time, battery telemetry, and tunable gyro.if you need a charger recommendation the imars d300 and d1000 are really good (I have both)

XL-E, that's what I remember, awesome. E for electric I'm sure?I also saw now that x-maxx is on version 5, and it has new tires that are reinforced with wires, that's crazy how it's taken this long to make that a default.Biggest mistake I did was handing my xmaxx to a friend, blew two tires within seconds.

how many propellers is the best amount for making a human-load capable drone? like if i wanna fly myself around. Is it better to have 3-4 motors, accepting death if any of them fails, or should I go with like 6 and then I think a failure of one maybe wouldn't doom me? Or would it still doom me. If it still dooms me, then I should probably go with less motors because less chance of failure, rite?also for smuggling one would want to go fixed-wing, right? And then like just set a GPS coordinate destination and let it fly then pick it up? ideally with some windy path so if anyone spots it it would be hard to follow?
>>2991735I've checked a bunch more videos and I see how the ballooning tires act as a gyro.I think the initial craze is over. Well, I finally got around to using my Deep Space Seeker 3 beyond initial setup. It does everything I want it to, but the thing is a rocket in comparison to my Mobula 7 which ironically makes me afraid to just fuckin' send it so it winds up being slow. I'll need to put a few more packs through it, tweak the throttle rates, apply a conformal coating and find room for an actual beeper for peace of mind, I guess. It's too early to start buying things again, but I now wonder if what I actually want might just be a whoop with a bit of oomph, maybe a 2S.
>>2987749>>2987751update: Tony the Chinaman from Aliexpress cut my frame for me, but turns out my design was shit and probably too thin arms or something. With a lot of tweaking of the rates (increase D and reduced Tracking) I got it to fly without violently wobbling, but there is still a LOT of wobbling when I descend fast.>>2993065>I now wonder if what I actually want might just be a whoop with a bit of oomph, maybe a 2S.I recently built an Apex2 as my first 2S after mostly flying 1S micros... and wow, it's fun.I still like the 1S as they can fly in smaller spaces. But the 2S feels like you can do proper acro.

Just caught the drone bug but I am very poor right now. I guess I'll save for a decent budget controller and play with the simulators until some money falls into my lap.
>>2993167As long as you take it easy on the throttle the diffs will be fine, the newer gens of bashers have upgraded certain weakpoints over time with the newer versions, even so you'll have to accept that breaking shit happens all the time when bashing and bring as many spares as possible. Not sure about bodies, you can use virtually anything you want as long as the body posts will be high enough and the wheel arches line up to your liking. Have a look at the Arrma forums for some ideas, some people are putting other bodies on theirTalions there.

Can anyone talk me out of buying an old toy grade helicopter and restoring it?Something like a coaxial, twin or a Picoo-Z/Havoc (or a clone of one). They tend to go for $10-100 depending on size class and condition.
>>2994175>toy grade helicopter>coaxialYou'll get bored of its limitations after 2 flights.Hobby grade is cheap enough now.If it's big enough you'd be lucky, as it will break after just one flight, before you get bored of it

Many years ago I bought an eachine 200d and frsky xlite-s and spent all my time in sims and never actually bought a drone. I couldn't get my DJI Mini SE to "synch" with my Samsung Note9, or my Samsung A7 Lite.Had an experienced drone guy try. No dice. But he had no experience on drones that use phones as the screen, only "all in one" systems.Any tips? Should I send it back "for repairs"? I waited until after 5 months to even try the thing, for silly reasons.I set up a DJI account and all that jazz, and now run Note 20 Ultra phone and still have the A7 Lite phone/tablet.Maybe I should buy another DJI Mini SE off Amazon and send the old back as "return", and set up whole new DJI account with new email, etc on current phone?Maybe I could take it to brick and mortar RC shop, but would they be able to get past my DJI account? How much you figure they might charge me to make it work, if I left one of my phones with them?System specs says it should run on A7 Lite, and the A7 is OK, only $127, but is sluggish compared to Note 20.

>>2995064>>2995119I flew helis 2007-2014, but almost entirely FP. Mastered the basics with CP and also am pretty good with F3C style aerobatics in the simulator. I have done bits of 3D stuff but not sure if it is for me, since I want to get a scale body mounted onto what I want.>>2994734He said most of them...>>2994772 Crash Test Hobby wings are probably going to be good too (any wing should be, but these are designed to be durable). TBS also make some good stuff, plus there is always the SonicModell AR Wing and Skyhunter.I might as well ask, what is the appeal to ducted fan models? They were all the rage about 7-8 years ago but now they have virtually disappeared. I remember the days of pusher and prop-in-slot models (like those from RCPowers, Yardbird RC, etc) and those seemed like they did more.Maybe I am just reminiscing a bit too much.
>>2975889How practical would it be to diy a reformed methanol fuel cell to increase the flight time of a drone?
>>2995721You are turning CH3OH to H2 with a CO2 byproduct that needs to be vented. Personally, I wouldn't do it, out of safety alone.
I almost have everything I need to do some work on my RC truck. I bought an aluminum heatsink that clips onto my motor and I'm going to add some thermal putty between it and the motor to fill the gaps on the ridged can to hopefully improve thermal transfer. Also bought a Noctua 40mm fan to cool it which I still have to figure out a way to attach it to the chassis but shouldn't be too hard. I also am about to do my first soldering job ever making an adapter to convert the standard 3 pin PC fan connector to the JR servo connector so it can plug into my receiver. I bought a bunch of 1N4001 diodes and I'm going to add one to the positive wire between the receiver and fan to drop the 6.0v to closer to the fan's intended 5v input. It will likely be about 5.3v which falls inside the 10% operating voltage range so hopefully that doesn't cause any problems. My only concern is crimping the super tiny connectors for the 3 pin fan adapter. I don't have a crimping tool and will just be using a needle nose plier. Any tips for this? I have a helping hands with magnifying glass built in coming my way. I just want to make sure I do it right and don't fry my RC. I have a multimeter so I can test the leads before plugging in the fan but I'm just concerned about shorts and bad connection quality.
>>2995808I'd leave out the thermal compound and get a rocketrc/surpass fan that's rated for 6-8.4v + IR temp gun. no hate on noctua, their fans are not made for such a harsh environment where noise isn't much of a concern.what truck is it? 40mm is pretty big
>>2994279If you are still undecided, I had an M1 Evo and it was fucking awesome. It has all the features and stability of a full-size heli like the old standard 450 class everyone recommended to newbies, but is cheaper to crash and requires practically no space to fly around, if you are good enough I could imagine 3D flying it indoors. It even looks and feels amazing, metal machined parts everywhere, none of that plastic shit micro helis used to have. V3 must be even better with upgraded flight controller, that's probably what makes it so stable.
>>2995947I'm in too deep to put the brakes on and change course now. Already got everything I need and even started work on my 5V fan adapter. The truck is a Rival MT10 and last time I ran a single battery through it the motor was blazing hot. I am gonna finish up work on the adapter and test it tonight. I already crimped the positive and negative wires to the PC fan adapter, just need to do the diode and add some solder to everything and it's all done. I'm not using thermal paste, I'm using putty. It's gonna fill the gaps and keep dust and dirt out. Thermal paste has already been proven to help a lot with heat transfer to the heatsink so this should be a good thing too. Only concern now is how I'll mount the fan in the chassis.
Im almost ready to build pic related, just waiting on an optivisor 2.75x, grease combo box set and yutori pro no. 003 oil
>>2996193That's at least $500 worth of parts and upgrades and yet still no where near being completed... No electronics, no tires..
>>2996193>>2996195at least the box is nice, for that price it better be.
>>2983747>starting pointjust get a shitty controller and learn to fly/tweak a drone in a simulator like Uncrashed on Steam. Learn about soldering, making Lipo/LiOn battery packs. Its fun as hell to me.
>>2996052>how I'll mount the fan in the chassis.can you post a pic when you're done? I've got a Pro4 SC10 (same chassis).btw if you ever have motor mount or spur gear issues on that truck check out exotek's stuff.
>>2975889Q: I have a DJI Mini 4K Camera Drone someone gave me, but I have an older galaxy phone that is 32bit and wont run the the DJI software or the Litchi app. What are my options to actually get some use out of this overpriced paper weight aside for plopping down the price of a new fucking phone?
What's the most basic/common setup for FPV -> android phone screen setup currently?Thinking about adding a cheap barebones camera on my RC airplane and clamping the phone on the top of my controller for minimalist portable FPV setup.
>>2995064buy the cheapest quad off amazon and practice, it will warm you up to the nuance of RCthen get a heli
>>2996395Yeah so I'm still working on a proper way to mount the fan but I got a working adapter for the Noctua and snugged it in-between the ESC and motor. Took it for a test drive and it stayed in place for 15 minutes even after some crashes. Definitely not good for long-term use but I'll end up 3D printing something else down the road. I also bought some flux and going to take another shot at the adapter. I'm measuring 5.7v out of the positive when I'm aiming for closer to 5.0v so now with the flux I'll try again but this time with 2 diodes in series. Should be perfect. Oh and I did order the Exotek stainless steel heavy duty motor mount along with a shit load of other parts like aluminum hubs, servo horn etc. Not planning on putting everything in immediately. Right now I just want to lock this fan down and do some more testing on temps. So far it's made a huge difference. Everything is staying very cool in there. I'll probably mount it so it's blowing straight down into the motor heatsink and that'll work even better.
I have ideas on making a scale model of an aircraft that I like (about 1/7 scale), but I wanted to run this by the folks on this board. The model in question is a Morane Saulnier Rallye with a 53" wingspan (or about 1/7 scale) running a power system like that featured in some models offered by Dynam (specifically their Tiger Moth, Waco, Stearman, et al.), which I have modified to run on a 4S 3300 mAH battery packs in the past. All I want is a 15 oz/sq. ft. wing loading or less, so I plan on making foam wings with flat plywood spars and firewall, cardboard formers, balsa stringers and maybe use tissue paper with banana oil as the covering. I would use PETG to make a canopy out of with the use of a block and a heat gun to form.I don't want to make something "lIkE fLiTe TeSt" since most of their stuff is heavy and flies like crap (built them the way they build them, so I know). In fact, I am more inspired by a guy I know out West who scratch builds his own stuff out of foam and this is what he does for the wings (and then insulation foam for the fuselages). Also the Flite Test crowd in AD 2026 are iPad kids, not that it matters, but they get on my nerves, so I would rather not associate with them.Does anyone have experience with the things that I am proposing above? Or is it all just surface and multirotors here?Technically I am about 5-6 months from an aerospace engineering degree, but I am not going to feign confidence or competence here.
>>2996628>heavy duty motor mountI've had that one on my truck for awhile and I've had zero issues. heads up the lower screw is a painnow that I see that heatsink you could go for a clamping style fan mount, something like https://www.amazon.com/Powerhobby-Aluminum-30-40MM-Twister-36-38MM/dp/B09FKHWWBL the exotek ones are nice too, but I damaged mine bashing, probably better suited for road cars or racing.
>>2996648That's a really neat idea for a fan mount and gives me some inspiration for how I'll do it but I feel confident in that this won't work for me because the fan will be too close to the heatsink. I need it up about 20mm above the fins to make it work. Thanks for the link though helps me figure out how I'm going to do it. As for the aftermarket upgrades, I'm probably not going to install any of them yet not even the RPM control arms. I'm still running with the stock ESC and motor, and I do not bash the truck like these other lunatics out here. Mostly just gentle off-roading on hiking trails and racing around big empty fields, basketball courts etc. I did buy a new servo the Savox SB-3292SG with an 8.4v BEC and a new transmitter because the stock one is awful. Grabbed a FlySky NB4 Pro+. They should be arriving this week and I'll be having a blast upgrading these two things alone. I'll eventually do the ESC and motor and when I do, that's when I'll install all the aftermarket upgrades. Btw here's my ghetto fan adapter. It's awful. I bought a pack of JR servo extensions, cut the male ends off, crimped with needle nose pliers some 3 pin PC fan connectors, then in the middle of the positive wire I cut it and inserted the diode. All I did was wrap the wires around the poles and heat shrink it. No solder, it's terrible but it works for now. I hope I can do the solder job right. It'll be good practice for when I go to swap the Dean's connectors on my stock ESC and Zeee batteries to XT60s.
>>2996636traditional balsa construction, add fiberglass or carbon fiber if it needs additional strength or 3D print the whole thing. you type like a massive faggot. https://youtu.be/74mIKhCBm8w
>>2996658>RPM control armsI can vouch for those, mine have held up to my torture. btw it's not really a weak point but keep an eye on the input cup/dog bone into the front diff, picrel, they can shred themselves pretty quick on higher power systems.the nb4p+ is great too, I love my NB4+. if it comes with an enhanced receiver try out the BVD cable, having battery telemetry is super nice when you get good packs you care about.
>>2996683I just watched a video not an hour ago of a guy replacing those parts. I'm hoping because I plan on running this thing pretty gently that those will hold up for a very long time. If not, praying there is a universal replacement for them because the idea that these RCs have tons of unique parts that won't be in production forever kind of freaks me out. And yeah I absolutely plan on using the included BVD wire to get the 3s battery voltage during use. It's part of why I went with this NB4 Pro+. I needed EPA for upgrading the servo and getting the most out of it, and also I wanted the ability to taper down the forward throttle without sacrificing reverse like I do now with the shitty stock XP120 transmitter. Not to mention the latency is atrocious on this thing and makes driving it feel so clumsy and disconnected.I am still kind of in disbelief that I just dropped $1200 on Exotek parts, new rx and tx, servo and charger for a truck that only costs $340 brand new. All that and I didn't even change the ESC and motor, wild. Speaking of though, where do you even go from here? I'm using two Zeee 3S 5200mAh 80C packs. I know they're not the greatest but plenty for the stock ESC and motor. I see Castle creations a lot in recommendations as the best of the best. Is it even possible to get both more torque and top speed while retaining a 3S battery? And would doing so completely destroy the drivetrain on the MT10?
>>2996685>where do you even go from here?tools like MIP's bits and better lipos, SMC batteries, CNHL also makes some decent packs but, I haven't used them. zeees are shit but they're better then nimh.I haven't used any castle stuff yet, tho I've had a max10 g2 140a + 3200kv 3665sd motor in my pro4 sc10 (it did that drive cup damage, twice lol), that setup was really good before I moved it to my 4x4 rustler. now its setup for 2s with a hw 4000kv 3652sl on a 15t pinion and crappy 80a rlaarlo esc since I stole the 10bl60 g2 out of it.>both more torque and top speed while retaining a 3S battery?eeh sorta, delayed turbo timing can give you more top end rpm. keeping standard timing at 0 degrees will give more torque down in the lower speeds. could gear it up 1-2 teeth and see how it handles it.>And would doing so completely destroy the drivetrain on the MT10?it's gonna wear out with use no matter what, find what you want out of that chassis and go for it.
