What were the worst incidents you had while trying to /diy/ something?

Some dumb shit I did:

>Electrocute myself while trying to change a smoke detector cause the power was still in
>Watertight sealant on a new drain, only to find out it was still in plastic once I was done and let it dry for 2 days
>Drill into electric cable
>Attach pipes that turn out to be leaking a few days later
>>
Not sure if it applies, but I was adding a bltouch to my custom 3d printer the other day. I fucked up the wiring and killed the board.
Once I replaced the board and wired everything correctly, I realized that I do way better bed leveling by hand (it's a small voron v0 bed).
Feeling like a retard.

>Electrocute myself
That means you died.

One time I had a computer psu with the lid off , for some fucking reason I grabbed the end, plugged it in and zapped myself real good
>>
My worst injury: I ripped off a thumbnail when I was trying to pry on something with a flathead and it slipped and my other hand was unfortunately positioned

Worst I've seen: A guy at work got his ring caught in a roller chain and it degloved his finger... oof. Still makes me cringe

Runner up: My bro in law was working on an ATV, he had the spark plug wire pulled but the end of the wire was still touching metal so gas shot out, and caught his arm and part of his face on fire
>>
>>2986536
I used to be a /diy/er like you, then I took a grinder to the knee
>>
>>2986648
>gas shot out
wut

Been swapping the car engine, only to realize halfway the oil isn't drained. 20 years later - rain puddles there still have rainbow.
>>
>cut a vein open when trying to open a paint can with a knife
>drilled into finger with small drillbit
>zap from touching exposed wire that was supposed to be off
Not accident:
>drill into two cables when looking to pass a third cable (not powered), irrepairable, had to pull whole new sections. Later turned out I didn't even need the third cable.
>pull cable for 3-phase between two buildings, bury it underground. Later find out 2 wires are corroded after taking up water, had to settle for 1-phase (previously the cable was used for a deep well pump)
>install large central (water) heating manifold, complicated layout. Later have to change things on it, impossible, no union fittings, have to cut the input/output pexal pipes for disassembly
>still didn't add union fittings though

not exactly diy but ill share cuz its dumb
>be 13 year old me
>go to grandmas house in the desert
>finds her pantry/storage room
>locks the door cuz retarded
>door gets stuck but i didnt realise
>finds a thing that looks like a spraypaint
>sprays and turns out its a foam thingy
>lid breaks and didnt stop spraying
>13 year old me starts panicking worried that the room will get flooded
>tries opening the door
>its locked
>starts crying and saying my last words, reflecting on my life
>mom opens the door from outside

turns out someone locked the door from outside

Electrocution =/= death.

Dremeling parts for a bicycle frame I was torch-brazing back together and getting a piece of steel or carbide in my iris. The ophthalmologist said they get tons of grinder accident appointments, but it was still a humiliating noob-tier fuck up. Scared me straight. Won't do anything these days without my safety goggles.

last month i was making reffing cuts with a multi tool into some plywood that was not lying on the ground right. I missed; blade bounced off my toenail made it into the toe, cleaned pinched superglued the wound, thought I created a blood clot. i spent a few days thinking i was going to have stroke.
>>
>>2987563
Great thanks I needed something else to worry about in the future
>>
>>2987593
ehh i slipped applying the superglue nozzle went into the wound; after a few hours i felt a mass move in my foot, you will be fine.
>>
>>2987594
Get some new skin if you haven't already, basically antiseptic superglue with a brush applicator. I've sealed up some nasty wounds with that stuff.

>thinks degloving is bad
Bro in airborne unit with me didn’t tighten his crotch straps all the way, when chute deployed crotch straps went tight and split the seam of his ball sack. Passed out from pain and broke his back hitting DZ while unconscious.

One time I was using this big fucking angle drill to drill through the bottom of a cabinet into the basement ceiling so we could run electric from the basement to the kitchen cabinet. The drill caught on the support beam in the floor and whipped around and slammed my hand into the track of the drawer. It sliced the top of my hand open and I could see my veins and tendons moving as I moved my hand. I have a scar and the edge of my hand is a little tight sometimes but its essentially fine. I refuse to this day to use big corded drills.

Currently on good painkillers because I was cutting out some concrete street gutter. Hit it with a mallet and chisel to knock the cut out and a chunk of aggregate flew up and put a hole in my ballsack.

I didn't even know id damaged myself till I felt my jocks all wet from the blood.

Went to the hospital and it looks like I'm keeping it so there's that.

Wouldn't recommend.
>>
>>2986984
it quite literally does require something to die
otherwise it's just an electric shock
>>
>>2986734
There's gas in the top of the cylinder, it was fucking with compression
>>
My first attempt at distilling alcohol was pretty bad. We used some cheap steel kettle and some dirty copper piping my dad had around. I got some drops to come out but it smelled like moonshine mixed with epoxy lol. Some kid at my house still took a shot of it. And he did not die or go blind though.
>>
Not really diy exactly but I was taking a intro to machining class. My piece was looking very roughly cut and shitty so like a tard I instinctively went to rub my finger on it. The mill immediately sliced a tiny chunk of skin off my finger lol. It didn't even hurt but I had to hide the blood. If they saw me do that I would have been told to leave lol. It makes me think of the stories they tell about people getting wrapped up in lathes. I may be that guy..
>>
>>2988223
>the stories they tell about people getting wrapped up in lathes.

You should watch some videos of it so you don't become that guy

Installing cameras for my neighbor and jumped off her roof like I was still 20. I was healing well but then took too many painkillers and thought it’d be a good idea to chop down a tree. I needed surgery; took two years to be back to normal…and even then, I limp when no one’s looking

>>2986984
It's a portmanteau of electric execution...

I touched the yoke of a crt while trying to get the image straight was bad it took a lot of time for the damage to go away thankfully the crt was off and not connected to the ac, I poisoned myself plenty of times ended up in the hospital, gave myself all sorts of burn 1 2 3rd degree burn chemical burn friction burn, stabbed myself slashed myself i got scars that i don't even know how they got there
>>
>>2988571
crts are mean. i was fucking with a trimmer on the power board of one years ago and shorted the flyback with my hand and couldnt grip right for a week.

had 80% of my left arm cut off by an industrial bandsaw meant for doing exactly as it did, cut flesh and bones..

was cutting up bones from a moose to extract the marrow, bandsaw stood on pallets, didn't realize one pallet had caved in a bit..

the entire machine fell on me, mangled my arm good and proper, i had no idea how bad it rly was since jacket also got caught, all i knew was that there was a second elbow 4 inches down from my original elbow.. managed to stop the machine and unmangle my arm, still had to get the fucker off me before loosening my belt and placing it above wound, but due to mangled jacket i ended up placing belt directly over cut by mistake, it sorta tied both ends together..

then called for help and sat in my driveway with arm held high.

saved arm by doing that thing by mistake.

was so calm on the phone that they arrived by car an hour later, and then promptly raced to meet chopper before getting blood into me, i had a heart attack as we were about to land, a nurse thought "hey what harm could it do" and pressed blood bag as i had been without pulse for a bit over 3 minutes due to blood depravation.

after all this, i was sent by plane to another hospital for surgery..

:D i got to focus in order to use arm, got motor function but 0 sensation, often send cups of coffee flying by mistake when trying to grab it..

all in all, id' give the experience a 5/10.. i can give myself the stranger whenever i feel like now.
>>
>>2989248
as result of all this, i now have aphasia and struggle when talking.. i word sentences funny AND jump into the middle of an already vetted sentence by mistake (going over the words in my head to make sure i can access them at that current time)..

got a bit tarded from blood loss but i got to say, life ain't so bad..

oh, and i forgot to say they found be passed out in the driveway, i barely had a pulse when they found me, and they started to give blood the second i had a heart attack, but it was followed by an even larger crash that sent me to see the void of infinity..

guess my DIY was checking to see of there is a god.. and well, religion got that thing very- very wrong, i fancy myself a pro at the aspect of life and the meaning of it.. enjoy it and never go to the dark void willingly, it's empty, and you can't give yourself the stranger.

Nothing too bad. Hit my finger with a hammer once or twice, but not bad enough to bruise. Accidentally cut a finger with a box cutter a few times. Hit myself in the face pulling a nail at an awkward angle, but luckily not even a bruise.
Killed a few electronic parts by wiring something up the wrong way... only lost money and took some ego damage.
Come to think of worst fuck up that comes to mind was a back injury when I was cutting down a bunch of trees to make room for a project and carrying the trees into a pile. Had a sore back for several weeks.
>>
>>2986536
When I was 3, my father told me to take a nail out of the workbench with the claw hammer. I pulled and pulled and when it came out, I hit myself on the head. And my older sister and my father laughed at me while I was crying. I then went into the kitchen and sat on the kitchen chair and cried and my mother told me to stop whinging and then I fell off the chair and cried more

Just one of those days...

Using an angle grinder with no handle or guard and just an on/off switch, no trigger. Almost had a shoe fire start. Also nearly picked up the aluminium pipe id just cut... usually im careful and think about what im doing. Make sure electricity is off etc

ohh, i use single use tubes maybe 20 ml in them. I figure it is sterile.

one time i dropped a resistor, thought i saw where it went, and picked it up.
then i soldered it into place.
and plugged the amp into mains voltage.
turns out the resistor i picked up wasn't a 100kohm high resistance resistor, it was one of the 10 ohm resistors i was using on the low voltage side to soften some LEDs.
it caught fire almost immediatly, melted the solder on the joins next to it, wire flipped up and contacted the other side of the transformer, which send 240v directly into the low voltage section i was holding.

REAL bad zap, i could feel my heartbeat for the next few days
real tragedy was the fridge got MORE broken.
