DIY freebies

What neat stuff have you found on Craigslist, FB marketplace etc. lately?

I just scored 101 retaining wall bricks today. Gonna use em as pavers tho

Got an old JC Penney TV in the free section of an yard sale. OEM is Toshiba. 1979. Works perfectly. I used it for old video game systems that are RF only like the 2600, Intellivision, etc. Picture from eBay.

I got a relativity new LG refrigerator. The one I wanted was about $700 new but after browsing craigslist for about two months a free one popped up. It needs a new evaporator fan but for $20 in parts that isn't bad.

>those stickers
shit looks straight out of max payne
>>

I got someone to haul away my old crap by leaving it at the end of my driveway. Some scraggly guy with a trailer pulled up a few days later and loaded it all into his trailer. This is much easier than taking it to the dump and paying disposal fees.
>>
>>2987173
I did that with my gay darkroom piss/coom fridge. Some guy in a white pickup picked it up lmao
>>
>>2986990
I got 10 yards of topsoil for free a couple days ago. I also made a couple planter boxes (4'x8'x20") out of scrap 2x4 and pallet wood that I threw on top to take out to my garden.
>>
>>2987194
Also pulling from a mountain of mulch the city lets us take for free.

I'm cultivating a sizeable garden this year and it's going go to cost me about $80, mostly in soil amendments and some plant starters. I'm making 3 more beds just like that, hopefully I can have all this shit done before last frost. I'm already running late. I am getting most of the plants/seeds for free, but I did purchase some specific varieties that I want to grow.

I tried this with an automatic reclining sofa once. That thing was heavy as fuck with all the automatic reclining gear. The people who came to pick it up were an old Mexican couple, like at least 60 years old. I felt bad for them so I ended up loading it for them anyways.

About two months ago I got two truck loads of free pavers. I just had to remove them from the homeowners back yard. Those jerks got kind of put out that I had to make two trips.

2001 Tacoma, 6 banger, extracab, my best guess. I think the six lugs are only on the 6cly engines.

Mine is 2002 4 banger, you probably have much larger payload than me. Although I did just buy a sequoia salvage title for 1 grand. Gonna get a nice trailer and haul whatever the fuck I want lol
>>
>>2987219
>you probably have much larger payload than me.
The manual says 750lb or something like that. I have had a 1400lb pallet in the bed before.
>>
>>2987213
It's a 2500, tho it did have it squattin a little

The county will bring us as much roadside dirt scraping as we want. I found out the caveat pretty quick though, tons of litter and rocks

I suppose in this case I somewhat lucked out. There were some sizeable sticks but no trash. I sent a soil sample off to my state uni, and I also did a NPK/pH test kit at home. Loads of Nitrogen, almost depleted in Phosphorus, K is on point... had to go pick up some bulk bone meal to amend it. Hopefully the state aglab doesnt come back and tell me it's saturated with paraquat and glyphosate.
>>
>>2987238
what were you expecting besides litter and rocks?
pretty sure thats considered hazardous waste where i live
>>
>>2987620
Uh, dirt
>>
>>2987195
Sometimes the mulch is from diseased trees. YMMV

curb finds:
7 - computers
1 - 23" lcd monitor
3 - lawn mowers (refurbished)
1 - lawn mower engine (to be refurbished)
2 - different security camera DVR's
1 - set of high end speakers from the 60's that I replaced the surrounds.
1 - found in the desert that I rebuilt.
1 - 4 stroke leaf blower (repaired)

I live in a somewhat rich neighborhood. the things people throw out here you could furnish a house with. most of what gets thrown out is lightly used stuff that should have been donated.

Looks decent. You can always use them to make a path or something later.

I was just surprised at how far they went, there were 101, including two that were broke in half for end pieces

Found a fuckoff huge CRT in a pile, it works

More often than not the free appliances I bring home have roaches. I need a quarantine procedure. Maybe one of those ozone machines and a plastic tarp.
>>
>>2987195
oh man I would bust a nut if my county had something like that. one year I was able to get a tree trimming company to drop off a truckload of mulched leaves and trees and stuff and I put a 5 inch thick layer out back. eventually broke down into the best soil I've ever had.
they wont do it again even when I try bribing them with money though, something about people suing them over driveway damage.

Curb picked xD

The threaded lids are neat, will be very practical

Does anyone know how airtight they are?
>>
>>2988932
Is there a gasket?
>>
>>2988977
No, but there's still a gap between the outside of the lid and the bucket when you tighten them all the way down so the fit is pretty tight

the classic "why do all the hard work and pay someone to dispose of my crap when some sucker will come do it for free and take it away for free" scam
>>
>>2989933
There are certainly cases of that all the time

>Free firewood, all you have to do is cut it down, cut it up and haul it off

Pavers are actually worth legit money with very little effort to actually get tho

Found a nice set of pliers at a German flea market. Wasn't free, more like 1 Euro a piece, but I'm real excited about them. Also came with a vintage Toyota Motor Made in Japan flathead screwdriver.

I cleaned the rust off with citric acid, sharpened them, and now they're good as new. Caliper for scale.

Love the little Bonum pincer pliers a ton. Going to use them for cutting bike cables and Gunpla sprues.

Here they are post cleanup. I messed up sharpening the small Bonum one initially and rounded off the cutting edge on one side, instead of just flattering the bevel. Managed to re-sharpen them though, and now it cuts through everything from steel wire to tissue paper like butter.

This was my firat time restoring a flea market tool, and I think i'm gonna try and do this more often. 1 Euro for these is a steal. Probably a lot of quality tools to be found on German flea markets, with all the Marshall Plan funded industry we used to have here. Boomers dying off in droves too rn, good time to stock up on their old hardware.

Not sure what the Stubai pliers are for though. Anyone know?
>>
>>2991390

I totally would've used them to trim my horse's hooves

plastic frames break easy
bees rob the honey as you extract it
not interchangeable with other hive equipment

The local grocery store was remodeling and I scored a big table they used for produce, but I'm gonna slap a piece of plywood on top and use it as a work table
>>
I see some amazing furniture being given away locally. But I don't have a car. And live on the fifth floor. I think I was supposed to be a furniture restorer and redesigner. If you just keep up a little with architectural digest and stuff like that you know what rich people will buy for $3k+ ez.
>>
>>2993190
If there's not enough stuff nearby on FB marketplace, they'll suggest stuff out of your search radius. It pisses me off to no end what cool free shit is like 150 miles away.

solid fucking desk.
guy delivered it for free too.

>>

the car thing is easy if you have a license, home depot truck rentals are $19 for 75 minutes. can't help with the 5th floor thing, maybe worth renting a storage unit. you can even set up a little workshop in them.
>>
>>2993193
What obsession did people have with painting wood? Literally just use metal or plywood at that point. That's one step below putting linoleum over hardwood
>>
>>2987219
>>2987220
It bumpstops around 2000lbs
I have one as a ag sprayer, so when the tote is full, thats about when it hits the bumps
>>
I really hare lazy faggots who post "free whatever" but it is really that they want you to remove a tree, pavers, bricks, gravel or rocks for free.
>>
>>2993317
Pavers and bricks have value, and you can't just go pick some up wherever.

You can get trees and rocks for free all over the place
>>
>>2993320
>You can get trees and rocks for free all over the place
You're probably not supposed to steal trees and rocks from private or public lands either there Jamal...

its my new work bench, i put 6 layers of outdoor spur polyurethane. i need a solid working surface.

oh and if you mean why was it painted blue? no fucking idea, it used to be a local business display desk. owners probably rolled some paint on it.
i got it paint matched and touched up a few flaking areas

My wife and I were getting ready to get quotes to see how much it would cost to get someone to install pavers vs. doing it myself. However my neighborhood announced that they were redoing the pool area, and that residents were welcome to come and get as many pavers as we wanted. I was able to get enough to the the center section, and ended up buying the outer grey ring that you see in the pic.
