>$5,000 for a 100 foot long, 5 foot high chainlink fence
>I could do it myself for less than $2000
These contractors need price regulation
>>
diy then. Everyone has to eat.

Pa won't let me, it's his fence

that's just how businesses work, most people don't have the tools, the skills, the knowhow and/or the time, so they have to pay the difference. DIY is always cheaper unless expensive specialised machinery is necessary or the materials are hard/impossible to source for the layman
>>

maybe you shouldnt have taken out his fence, then
>>

Sounds cheap. usually you can figure labor cost being at least 2x materials cost. If you don't like it then do it yourself and you'll figure out why they charge the labor cost they do.

> 80% labor costs
Even high school drop outs want the white picket fence and company car life yo.

Completely reasonable price if it's quality, especially if you have difficult soil in your area. It's not 2010 anymore anon . A big Mac meal combo is $15 now

So? Write up a contract that guarantees repairs from structural damage from weather, soil shifting, wildlife, etc for ten years. Personally, I would just drive some of those green and white posts in the earth, slip the nicer looking round metal posts over them and bury them in the ground a bit and run the fence myself. It will look the same, can be knocked out in a couple of hours, and will last. The only bitch is keeping the posts exactly straight with uniform height.
