Then you know there is a better alternative. Picture related. Which you clearly DON'T know about, which means you are an idiot. Idiots should never be sold products they 'think' should exist.

this is /diy/, take two extension cords and wire/solder/electrical tape up a 4-way hazard monster for ultimate flexibility
>>
>>2993100
It’s still got the male pins with potentially high voltage on them.
There has got to be a better solution.
>>
>>2993094
practical use?
>>
>>2993158
you plug one end into ur generator and the other end into a socket
>>
>>2993153
60309 version of this but one where there is also an electrical isolation switch which is interlocked and cannot be connected until a plug is fully inserted and stops the plug being removed until switched off again.

But I would suggest most people who need a gen often enough to add a socket for it might as well hardwire it into a supply changeover switch and build a little shed around it or something to keep it in permanently.
>>
>>2993153
It shouldn't ever be wired up so it could do that. That's the point. The male prongs there are never hot. They are sitting there cold waiting for you to plug an extension cord in, and then your connex box or whatever will be powered.

And this way you never had to make a suicide plug.
>>
>>2993153
That should only be on the cold side of the connection. You can get them for running the power for a wall-mounted TV down. They're literally just as dangerous as an unplugged power cord.

The reason male-male cords aren't allowed is because you can plug one end into the hot and have exposed pins with a live charge.
>>
>>2993176
so you want to power an entire house through a flimsy plug made for powering home appliance?
why don't you just pour some gasoline on your house and set it on fire?
>>
>>2993094
I would kinda like one of these someday, but this is because my house breaker is actually secondary to a larger breaker outside the house, meaning, I could switch off the breaker that powers the indoor breaker box, and therefore power the inside of the house without sending power back out onto the grid. I doubt YOUR house is like this though.
it also means I'd lack powering my fridge, sadly, because it is on that outdoor breaker box, but oh well.
>>
Anyone ever use anderson connectors to connect their generator to their main panel. I've been looking for some sort of plug solution robust enough to handle the amperages I want to potentially generate. Have a 200A pto generator. I'm thinking a sub box off my main box with some short beefy wires and anderson connectors with an interlock in the main box where you can't turn power on to them unless the main is disconnected.

Some kind of sliding shutter linked to the main switch that covers the anderson connector when the switch is on and prevents turning it on if there's an anderson plugged in?

By that logic, so does any appliance that you plug in. These receptacles are used on the downstream side and so the pins will never be exposed at the same time they are hot.

just buy a male plug end, cut off the female end of a cord and make your own.
>>
>>2993823
If you plug the two ends into two different circuits they'll potentially be out of phase with each other and pass quite a lot of current before the breakers trip. Enough to cause sparks, melted insulation, general excitement, possibly fire.
>>
>>2994020
>two different circuits
well of fucking course you don't want to bridge two different circuits but I'm picturing plugging it into the top and bottom plugs of a singular outlet (or maybe two outlets on the same breaker......?) and I don't think anything would happen in that case
maybe I wouldn't be willing to bridge two outlets on the same breaker but come on, both plugs in one outlet, there's no way it blows up

Retards. Because of Retards. I worked retail for a few years and Jesus fucking monkey Christ people are retarded.

I worked at Walmart in a city where people made more money than brains
>Get asked if they can use their gas or charcoal grill inside
>Had a guy asked if this light bulb (head light) will work in their night light
>Had a lawn mower brought back after a guy mixed oil and gas in the gas tank
>Get bitched at because it is sold on the website (by a third party) but not in store and get told that it should be sold in store
>If (insert a store that is not a Walmart store) sold this or that
>Even after quitting Walmart and years later at a different store people bug you to ask if you work their because you have a blue zip up jacket (the dumb bitch thought only Walmart employees wore this jacket, it was a plain blue zip up jacket)
>Work at the store and still get asked if you work their
>Get a person that still fucks up composite video and audio (red to red, white to white, yellow to yellow)
>Person wanted a new wireless mouse, didn't want to pay 20+ for one, asked if they can just remove the (USB) cable and if it will work like that
>India kid asking about his college classes for KSU
>Customer gets made because I wont give him a ride home from his shopping trip after I got off from my shift. Said it was bad customer service
>Tell people it's limited 1 per customer, still asked if they can buy 2 or more
>Customers buying store displays of patio furniture, they drive a small car, and asked if you will delivery it in your car or the "company truck/van"
>Same with fucking grills, buy an assembled grill, take the lid off to fit in their mini van, hand them they parts, they bitch because you wont go to their house and put it back together
>Woman wants a smart TV, asks about a TV if it was a smart tv, told her yes and pointed out where it was listed on the box, she buys it and returns it right after buying it because she thinks its not a smart TV
>>

>Had a lawn mower brought back after a guy mixed oil and gas in the gas tank
To be fair on this, a lot of older two-stroke motors need this mix to run properly, so somebody just assuming that the gas he still had should work instead of checking first is probably what went down.

That said, buying gas instead of electric for a lawnmower these days is its own form of dumb.

I /diy/'d one last winter when power was out for 4 days. Gen had a 240v 30a out twist lock, my elec water heater was best point of entry for 240v so bought some orange 10ga wire put a twist lock on one end and 3 prong on other. Worked great. It handled the whole house, everything worked again almost except for water heater, oven and HVAC. Range microwave coffee maker fridge all lights and room outlets TV internet etc worked.

It was funny coming home after work and passing 100 dark houses and my lone house on hill lit the fuck up. Lol, and the generator was deafening in the silence too. Had one homo neighbor ask me to turn it off at night and I laughed, like i want my milk to spoil.

>>2993153
no anon, you install this permanently on your device/machine, so you can connect your normal extension cord to it normally while not having to bother with dangling bunch of cable from the machine with a plug all the time. there is literally written "power inlet only, not for use as an outlet"

i got an old table saw with killer extension cord (400V 32A, much fun) because some dumbfuck "educated" electrician didn't bother to install an inlet there, so i just replaced that outlet with inlet and remade the killer cord into normal extension cord

picrel. yes, that is an INLET. it is normally disconected by the switch. if mains go off, you connect a generator, then hit the switch that disconnects the mains supply. boom, the inlet contacts are never dangerous. it is called basic engineering, ameribro.
>>
>>2996787
dammit i am so induriazedageep forgetting pics here.

this seems to be usa single-phase equivalent. notice it is an INLET with a switch. this is the easiest correct way, not your outlet-to-outlet rednecking.
>>
>>2993094
The only use for this I can imagine is using a generator on your house during a power outage. The cable itself is retarded, you should be asking for generators to come with a method to connect to your house.
Which you can technically get an electrician to set up for you already.

I'm not wearing anything orange but somehow I work at home depot because of a headset? doesn't matter that I never saw a home depot employee with one.

People generally don't have a welder outlet. You'd still have to make a cable for the generator as they use 30 Amp twist locks usually.
And yes I know you can just do male to male and back feed as long as you pull the main breaker.
The smart way to do it is to install a generator plug on your house and an interlock on the panel.
