I'm planning to DIY this vertical solar wall 90ft wide and 24 ft tall.

30 ft I beams will be lifted into the excavation holes and the foundation piles will be poured around them.

I think the hardest part of the construction will be the erection of the columns in a way that is perfectly planar. Solar panels aren't very tolerant of bending stress so I need them to be planar within a 1/4 inch more or less.

I am thinking to install scaffolding opposite the crane truck position so that I can reach the entire I-beam area from top to bottom. But the challenge remains getting those beams perfectly in plane .

The I beams will be prefabricated with bolt holes for the horizontal support rails. The horizontal support rails will be HSS steel with bolting plates set at each column . They come in 20' lengths and 10' lengths .

So I am thinking at the very least, I can bolt the HSS to the I beams to provide substantial alignment.

I also have a builders scope level.

Just posting here about it to see if anyone here has experience in this matter. Anyone have advice? Will post more details.

wait a minute lol 30ft pole 24ft height perfectly planar construction so this is a wind up then?
anyway actually getting posts plumb and plane is easy, you put the two end posts in first, use a plumb to get them vertical.
now before you fix them in, run a string line between them.
use the string line to rotate the post so the string is flat to the face of the post
then with a string line top and bottom between two fixed posts, you can offer up all the intermediate posts to the string line before fixing them.
next: don't bury steel anything. concrete footers and then fix the steel to the concrete. unless you live in the desert. 24 ft is not to be fucked with. if you want i guess you could contract a piler to do it.

also solar panels usually are installed at an angle. i.e. pointed towards the sun.

Steel has to be embedded in the post in this case for bending moment resistance.

>angle

This is a winter array , we already have enough angle arrays for the summer

Post the video when it flies away
Maybe put a GPS tracker on it

24" foundation piles will give a factor of safety of 2.1 for this design.
