Whatever happened to modular, prefab homes? I live in Connecticut, USA and they're still building shitty McMansions everywhere and gutting/renovating shitty 1950's ranch homes for more than this would cost.

>I can't afford a shitty mcmansion
>I want a shitty prefab
did you even look on amazon?

All the classrooms at my school used to be prefab. I think they stopped since they started roasting all the kids in summer time.

Doesn't look comfy

The name was poisoned by the shitty product. Now they sell the same shitty product under different names to convince people it is different. They are called 'manufactured housing; now.

8 feet is just the shittiest possible width for a room unfortunately.

>Connecticut, USA
thank you for making sure you meant USA and not Canada, Australia, NZ, UK or Ireland
>>
i live in a 1970s ranch and id pick it over my neighbors 2020s prefab any fucking day
>>
>>2995043
At least 1/3rd of the price on OPs pic is in those windows.
A barndo would be cheaper and just as energy effecient.
>>

Literally every complaint you could possibly have about a McMansion applies to this shit. Then add on the issues unique to prefabs, like limited ability to alter your own home once you own it (b-but it's modular! Congrats, you now have proprietary add-ons that only the base company can provide). Then add on the fact that these were all made like shit and amounted to fancy mobile homes, were terrible at retaining or dissipating heat as needed, had storage like fucking RVs, etc.

Absolutely no reason to get shit like this. McMansion for poors with terrible taste.

>Whatever happened to modular, prefab homes?
They still exist
Also there is no land to put them on anymore, so the market is dwindling.

Anyway, OP, probably the cost to ship that stuff. I just had to pay 25 bucks to have a 20 dollar brake rotor shipped.

All homes should be built underground. Then you could pretty much remove all of the energy spent on heating and cooling, which is the lions share of all energy spent. Towns and cities become transformed into giant sprawling parks. Your nation becomes bomb proof. Its a win on so many fucking levels and we can't have it because women need natural sun light to record their best soft core social media porn.
>>
>>2995043
Trailer homes has a pretty negative poor person stigma attached to them.
>>
>>2996026
Keeping the water out of an underground home is a substantial undertaking. Digging out the soil someplace where it is otherwise unneeded, like where they don't have to worry about frost heave, is a huge cost increase too. What if you want a second or third story? The deeper you go the more the cost goes up.
>>

The excess dirt material and the drainage problem kind of solved eachother. You create a nice hill top for your entrrace so water is running away. And no you would just add on to them horizontally which is fine since it doesn’t actually take up yard space or anything removing the reason people ever built up in the first place

Also I think if ants can account for flooding we could do so as well
>>
>>2996026
I wouldn't be surprised if it cost double to build the same size house underground versus above ground. Not only that, but you're going to be dealing with moisture problems constantly and have no natural light in the house. Once the "omg i live in a fallout shelter" novelty wears off you'll be dealing with having to live in a depressing underground bunker.
>>
>>2996156
It might cost a lot more now but if that’s just how we built houses the economics would scale and it could be done cheap.

It’s not depressing. Windows are RETARDED. It’s a structural weakness that ruins your insulation values. We have dirt cheap LED screens and lights. You can go outside your giant beautiful park world and lawn if you want sunlight

Prefabs are for the poors.

Only an indian could be this fucking retarded.
>>

>sunlight is overrated, just black out all your windows and fill your house with LED's, it'll be great
I honestly don't know how to reply to this level of stupidity.
>>
>>2995043
They got associated with trailers and "trailer park trash", so the concept is tarnished by people far too concerned about how hypothetical people might think about their housing choice. Not that you save much money going with them these days anyway, between having to buy the land and all the setup costs.

>nutmegger
Live semi near Newhaven, what parts you out in?
>>
>>2996181
You are the retarded one. Im not saying you cant have sunlight just that you need to go outside for it. Getting rid of windows is a million times more reasonable than getting rid of gas powered vehicles for example.
>>
>>2996172
Low IQ moron keep your retarded opinion to yourself
>>
>>2996158
my house would be cold and gloomy af with out its big windowy sunroom
