Hello, I like to collect various oddity type stuff especially if it has dark history behind it. I recently read about these masks and immediately got a creeped out feeling about them before i learned its widely believed it was worn by the parents in Carthage when performing child sacrifice to hide their grief. I looked online for a replica of it and couldnt find it anywhere and then i started looking online for how to sculpt with terracotta and couldnt really find much info on it. For some reason terracotta sculpting info is kinda rare even though it shouldnt be given that its one of the oldest medias on earth for pottery. Anyone have any idea of how to make a replica of this? I was thinking maybe using like a halloween mask or a styrofoam head and then just molding it around that so you would have a face shape and then making the mouth and eyes line up. Another idea i had was using the 3D models provided by various museums online to print a 3D model of it and then use terracotta clay to mold it. I want it to have that stone texture. Maybe 3D print it and then spray it with like a stone texture spray paint? I know this an out there project but i figured id ask and see what the best method would be to yield the most quality result for someone who hasnt really done any pottery.
