I've been thinking lately about having a house built so I can move out of this apartment I've been living in.
But, I've been wanting it built out of ICF. Problem is, not a single home builder or really anyone at all knows how to build with ICF (I live in bumfuck no where, so it shouldn't be surprising) and have told me they won't be able to do the project for me.
So, is it possible to build an ICF home DIY style by yourself? Seems like it's the only way I'll ever be able to get one built.

yes that's kind of the whole point of ICF

Why not use AAC? Should be cheaper than ICF, still plenty good enuff, and presumably any construction company should know how to use it since it's basically just brick. Alternatively AAC is also easier to /diy/.

The impediments to any of these diy build threads are...
>land ownership
>development fees
>zoning
>mortgaging of a new build

The actual build method is not a problem. Ultimately icf will cost you around 20-25% more if you hire it out, or break even if you diy. They do require modified systems like an air exchanger, changes to hood fans and bathroom fans etc to stay efficient. You recoup that money through energy savings on conditioning the space. If you can't do it yourself or find someone local its going to push you above that 25% increase quickly.

T. Moderately wealthy contractor who wanted to do this but ended up just buying a normal old house because the roadblocks to actually building were so much more expensive than just buying and renovating, even the addition I'm currently doing is going to be stick framed because concrete is so damn expensive. Canada btw

It's Russian.
Anyway, it's fireproof

There's a YouTube channel called Jesse Muller, he's doing exactly what you want, go watch him.

so they cant beat it with a hammer or try to crush it but you can literally scrape off a layer with a tool and cut it with a handsaw? WTF this has to be fake shit

Would be funny to have the exact same thing done to a block of wood next to this vid

It does not catch on fire, but it turns into the same polystyrene poison smoke when it's exposed to fire.

I don't like ICF, you can never inspect the concrete after its poured

They make single sided ICF, look up Nudura One. Finished product ends up looking like this, with the other side being the foam.

Did you even see the video?

There's absolutely zero smoke coming out of it. And what's that if not precisely being exposed to fire?
