I have a one-year-old Toro SmartStow front-wheel-drive push mower.
When I was mowing earlier today, the front wheel drive just stopped.
So, I took off the top and bottom covers and inspected the drive belt and pulley. The pulley was initially stuck, but I was able to get it to move again. The drive belt is fine and shows very little wear.
The front wheels do not move when engaging the transmission. They do spin when I manually spin them with my hands, but I haven't taken the wheels off to see if the teeth on the wheels and the gear are connected.
Is there a chance the gearbox is hosed? I've worked on these mowers for a few years now, but I have taken the gearbox off and inspected one.
I do have an AP protection plan on it, and it's valid, so if push comes to shove, I can just get it replaced, but I hate just throwing out a mower.
Anyway, thanks.

haven't*

>disassembles it to fix it himself

Fucking retard, warranty it immediately and don't tell them you disassembled it. Sound as dumb as possible and say it just stopped working.

They've already given me credit for it.

Everything you could ever want to know about modern toro push mower transmissions

Supposedly the 21" FWD models are all clutched worm drives, so checking the clutch function and cable would be a good first step.

They've been shit for a while now. I had to throw away my old school powercurve 1800 because there was no way to get at the motor brushes without cutting off the wheel shaft. It was designed to be assembled once and then never taken apart. A new one is $600.

I said fuck it and bought a cheap one from amazon. There's no point buying 'quality' anymore, everything is disposable.

Give him a break. It's a thin grey line between DIY Retard and DIY Savant.
We all learned by fucking shit up at some point.

Are self-propelled mowers even worth the hassle? I've never had one. It seems rather pointless since you still have to walk behind the thing. And pushing a mower isn't exactly backbreaking.

There is no hassle, they just work as long as you don't do something retarded. And yes, incredibly worth it.
>>
>>2996149
By hassle I mean it's complication to a machine (belt, cogs, something else to wear out and break) that doesn't seem to provide any real benefit.
>>
>>2996150
It's an extremely simple system and now days with injection molding it doesn't even take effort to make. It's a real fucking benefit.

Or do you think power windows are a hassle and we should be using wind up handles? It takes way more effort to push a mower than it does to crank a window up and down.
>>
>>2996154
I also prefer window cranks. I like simple machines.

We should be .

morons

considering how rare it is to roll the windows down in my car? yes. I never had hand cranked window mechanisms break. I have had every one of the electric ones in my truck break at least twice in the 15 years I owned it.
