Just got married on Saturday.I think it would be nice to preserve our wedding flowers, but I need to act immediately at least on the drying bit. Most flowers still look fresh but some are fading. I think I’ll go to Michaels and buy bulk silica gel to dry as many flowers as I can. The goal is to get something similar to pic related, but for a fraction of the price and with zero experience with the matter. Any tips or tutorials for something like this? It looks like you should pour the resin in layers, but how do I not fuck it up?
>>2996291You're probably too late on the decision, but whatever; That will take a lot of resin so expect to pay a coulple hundred for the materials alone anyway. When buying resin make sure to buy one for deep casts. The process of layering itself will take days - most resins for deep pours take at least 24 hours to fully settle and sometimes even up to 3 days. Buy a scale, cups, something to stir and nitrile/latex gloves, obviously. You don't have to degass so don't bother with vaccuum
>>2996298Also, container you will use as a form to pour should be transparent or polished to the shine. The resin will mirro the container's roughess, so if the container is matte/coarse, then the cast will be foggy and you basically won't see what's inside.
>>2996298>hundreds of dollarsI dont think so m8 the Mold is about $20, the silica gel is $25 per 5lbs pack and this seems to be a good resin, I think I can attempt this project for $100-150 at the absolute max. Maybe if I was doing a coffee table size sure but I am just going for something smaller
>>2996316do you not understand ounces? that's not even 4 beer cans worth of resin. you'll likely need at least a gallon (128oz) if not more for your pic
>>29963173 beer cans worth*
>>2996317Yes obviously. Look, here’s a gallon. The point is it shouldn’t cost “hundreds of dollars”Also, all of the molds for epoxy I am finding are the same sort of quality, I dont see any that are “high gloss” so I am just going to go for it with a thick one
>>2996320i'm not sure what he meant by high gloss either, you'll need to wet sand and polish it regardless. at least go with a reputable brand of epoxy. check and make sure it won't heat up too much turning your flowers brown
>>2996291use envirotex. its cheaper and easy to work with. buy a basic silicone mold from a hobby store and figure out how much envirotex you need. easy peasy
>>2996291Hang the flowers upside down in the dark, lowish humidity, room temperature for about a week at leastThe light while drying causes the colour to fadeThat gives you time to figure out the pour but do it now
>>2996291that shit looks like a gravestonehere lies anon's happiness

>>2996323>>2996330https://youtu.be/FK6-hbQvW8o?is=islc4qNoo0gKd9beThis girl uses the same brand I am thinking of using I am just going to go with it.>>2996342The flowers are already a week old, plenty of them are in good condition, but silica from what I can tell will preserve them faster and more effectively.>>2996330Tell me more? This brand doesnt seem to be much different
>>2996316I know what's wrong with that resin but since you came here for advice and then first thing you did was get into argument with given advice then it seems like you don't really want any advice at all. Go ahead and suit yourself bro
>>2996356Ok I disagreed on pricing but sorry I upset you!Was able to get about 3 layers of flowers in this tub with 15 lbs of silica. I also hung up 3 bouquets in the closet for good measure
>>2996376dude you gotta put like mold release and shit on there first. and why sand? also it's going to take that shape including the 2° draft from injection molding, do you really want your wedding flowers to come out in the exact shape of a storage container? corners and everything?
>>2996379he put them in silica to dry them out retard
>>2996379The fuck lolIm not pouring the epoxy in the bin hahahahaha im just showing a layer of flowers before i put more gel on itHeres the bottom layer
this faggot really got the golden color towel and shears.
Trowel *
>>2996407They’re regular kitchen shears and the ice scoop from my freezer you fucking halfwit
>>2996411you sit legs crossed playing with flowers on the floor, using ice scoopers and kitchen shears that are shiny gold. ya im a halfwit but fuck me, look at the state of you
Looks like a great project I’m sure your husband will appreciate it
>>2996413None of this shit is shiny gold not only are you a halfwit you’re fucking blind too
>>2996389Given the size and shape, world you considered pressing them and doing a few thin pours? Might get some nice coastersGonna watch this bread and might just do that myself>>2996413>shiny goldLet me guess, you never wear eye goggles
>>2996431Eh i like the non pressed 3D look. If it takes a few days to layer then so be it. Thread might die before i start the project tho we are going to NYC for a week so I think im going to keep the flowers in the silica until after the 7th. Or take them out the silica and keep them in that bin where we’re away
