I dropped my relatively new opinel knife and it stuck into the floor bending the tip at a 90 degree angle. Is there any creative way to straighten it out? I'm traveling long-term and have access to zero tools. It's still fully functional but totally annoying. Alternative is trashing it and buying new for $10. I only use it for chopping vegetables and cutting meat for which it's fabulous.
>falling for opimemetry buying knives that aren't made out of tinfoil next time
gind it off against brick or stone wall
>>2997527Just find someone with a hammer, shouldn't be too difficult
>>2997527sharpen it
>>2997527It'll likely snap if you try to bend it back. Easiest, quickest fix? Grind from the back/spine of the knife tip at an angle, towards the tip. You can snap the bent portion off or just grind it off. You can do this with a file. I did it to a cheap knife with similar damage, it creates a milder version of "reverse tanto" tip, see pic
>>2997527Did the same OP, I walked out to the garage and laid the bent bit against a flat block of steel and gave it some love taps with a smooth faced hammer.Being carbon steel it of course broke off, so I redressed the tip as >2997588 suggested.
>>2997527Lay it flat on a table and slide a ceramic coffee mug over it to flatten it out.
>>2997605Thank you this worked, broke the problem area off. Thank you DIY you saved my knife from the landfill
>>2997661Would you really have ditched the knife over a 1mm rolled tip?The fuck is wrong with you?
>>2997664I use it several times per day and every time I wipe it off I get annoyed. Peace of mind is worth $10
