I dropped my relatively new opinel knife and it stuck into the floor bending the tip at a 90 degree angle. Is there any creative way to straighten it out? I'm traveling long-term and have access to zero tools. It's still fully functional but totally annoying. Alternative is trashing it and buying new for $10. I only use it for chopping vegetables and cutting meat for which it's fabulous.

gind it off against brick or stone wall

Just find someone with a hammer, shouldn't be too difficult

sharpen it

It'll likely snap if you try to bend it back. Easiest, quickest fix? Grind from the back/spine of the knife tip at an angle, towards the tip. You can snap the bent portion off or just grind it off. You can do this with a file. I did it to a cheap knife with similar damage, it creates a milder version of "reverse tanto" tip, see pic

Did the same OP, I walked out to the garage and laid the bent bit against a flat block of steel and gave it some love taps with a smooth faced hammer.
Being carbon steel it of course broke off, so I redressed the tip as >2997588 suggested.

Lay it flat on a table and slide a ceramic coffee mug over it to flatten it out.

Thank you this worked, broke the problem area off. Thank you DIY you saved my knife from the landfill

Would you really have ditched the knife over a 1mm rolled tip?
The fuck is wrong with you?

I use it several times per day and every time I wipe it off I get annoyed. Peace of mind is worth $10
