I live in a rather large Midwestern city.
I want to buy a vacant lot and put a bunch of shipping containers there for storage. Maybe perhaps charge for storage, but I don't want to mix my shit up with other people's. The Mexicans in my city already do a bunch of that where they have cars, boats and heavy equipment sitting by their buildings on concrete-paved yards, or sometimes even on gravel.
I am not a barbarian who leaves my things out in the rain, so I want a shipping container or conex box.
How to do this cheaply so I don't get fucked on price, but also not so retarded that I would get the municipality or county on my ass for zoning or nuisance laws violations?
I already thought about prefab buildings, but I want to have as little to do with needing to seek permits as I can, except maybe for fencing and gates. Thanks in advance.

some of those containers are marked exclusively for imitation crab so you can get them at a huge discount although they may make your stuff smell fishy

4x 40ft high cubes stacked 2ea side and 1 of the ritchie bros metal framed roofs over the middle = $20-25k

OP here, I feel like I'm going to have to rip out all the internal paneling and bleach out the inside metal surfaces in order to make them serviceable. What could I use to replace that, and where would I get it cheap?

Isn't Ritchie bros just an auction site?
Also that sounds like I would need drawings and permits if I want people coming inside the building. What is the cheapest option to be able to use conex boxes under a shelter?

rb direct imports a ton of chinkshit and buying it through the yimed lots is the cheapest way to get it
if you build from conexes and ecoblocks you can just claim shits temporary

I need these and engineer drawings if I am going sell a property, let alone start a business and be able to get utilities and liability insurance in any place that isn't deep in bumfuck hillbilly country. You get assraped by the faggots in the fire department if you don't.
Also imagine having the balls to tell someone to consider chinkshit as building materials when youtube videos of tofu dreg construction abound.

this is an entirely town by town thing, municipal and county zoning are who you need to keep happy.

much of what you see is probably a little bit outside of what is on the books, the trick is to slooowly be the change you want to see in the world.

in my area, farming and agriculture get huge leeway that the rest of us dont. thusly, the tax free way to get a garage or indoor storage like you describe is a small version of a vinyl ag structure. the covering is fabric, but its pretty permanent. setbacks? not a building, piss off.
my town defines a building as " a roof structure supported by walls or posts" so containers--> permit --> reappraisal if you get too fancy with it.
there's no general knowledge that can help you, beyond what you can get away with varies wildly by location

its all about soft power in my area. no town police, so don't have the cops called on you, pay your taxes and what is the town gonna do? sue you (you need to stay under this threshold)
just don't be a problem that needs to be solved
