Some videos say they're the best, others say you'll ruin your roof. Seems like the detractors of them say that just brushing them off once a year completely negates the whole thing but I can't really tell. Only really have large leafs to worry about.Installing them myself btw so it will be like $400 not $3,000.

My house lacks gutters (common in Florida probably due to hurricanes) and I have spots around the perimeter that get absolutely destroyed by rainwater pouring off the roof. Even my driveway has a line where the surface of the concrete has been eroded. I could ring my house with stone to take the brunt of it, but I'm going to get gutters so I can direct the water away properly. I've covered the worst areas with pavers in the meantime.
the mesh kind like in the picture will still let small stuff in that can build up and clog your downspouts. if you check them once a year, you should be okay.

>>2997877Depending on your environment, you might still need to clean them. If you have a shopvac, you can use lightweight pvc tube and clean your gutters without needing to mess around with a ladder.
You might have to clean your gutters half as often, but when you do it's twice as hard to clean.
I've got a standing seam metal roof and if I didn't use gutter guards then the ice would rip my gutters clean off

>>2997957Depends on the tree leaves you have. If you have pine needles get those gucci fine mesh with bottom frame support screens. If you have something kinda big like cottonwood or Maple leaves, get some mid grade screens. The fishnet screens like in OPs pic are usually junk but do okay with small to medium leaves like elm. The problem is you STILL have to get up there and clean off the screens at least once a year. More often if you have many trees covering your house. It usually made me wonder what the fuckin point of them is of your still getting up there to make sure they're clean and flowing well. Yes I know it's too prevent a clog in the gutter and downspout. Get the biggest downspout you can afford, 6" or 8". You'll have to gauge how big the gutters should be but like other anon pointed out, make sure they're not too high up and angled correctly.

Snow rails are a safety feature to prevent you getting buried by snow slaking off the relatively slippery surface of a metal roof. Asphalt roofs hold the snow due to their rough texture and as such don't require them.
