nice big Bed Bug thread on /pol/. :)

Anyone want to weigh in with DIY tips?

Because it seems "professional" solutions not too practical.
I can't imagine what it costs for a "pro" to do the sort of intensive inspection of your average even mildly pack-ratted dwelling, and you know its going to come with a big "not our fault if it doesn't work...maybe you got an ongoing source of new BBs (likely true, many such cases)" disclaimer.

IMO, "detection" is overrated, unless its pre-emptive about a place you are thinking of moving into.
If you got Bed Bugs you will know it, although it might take a week for you to realize those aren't just random red itchy spots.

Bed bugs hide in humid areas. They cluster together in seams and small spaces to help this. Nearly all bugs prefer it humid.

I'm in CA with typically less than 30% even in coastal Gay Area, and we don't have 1/5th the bugs I'll see in other States, even though we got year round growing season.

I had bedbugs years ago and it was like an ancient egyption curse from a movie. It took me years to recovery financially.

The ONLY thing that worked is:
>put any irreplaceable possessions in black plastic bags and throw everything else in the garbage. seal plastic bags and place in direct sun light.
>use IR thermometer to verify that the contents reach 150F minimum. Reseal bags and let it cook until they are eradicated from your house. Thermal camera is better because it can find cold spots they can hide.
>If attempting to save furniture, TVs, etc, place in painter's plastic and seal with tape. Put in direct sunlight. Use thermal to verify temps and find cool spots. Cook until they are eradicated from your house.
>Vacuum EVERY nook and cranny every day. I mean EVERY spot, including removing outlet panels and vacuuming in there. Then throw out the bag outside of the house or use steam cleaner to sanitize the canister. Use thermal to verify temps. Do this every day.
>Steam clean every nook and cranny once per week. Use a real steam cleaner. I used Dupray Tosca for $1000 that is capable of continuously outputting 316 F until the tank is empty. Thermal verified it heated things to minimum 220+ F. You will be miserable without a high end steamer. Avoid shark steamers as they are junk. Don't steam more than once per week or you get mold. Use thermal to verify temps and find spots you missed.

Cheap steam cleaners only put out warm vapor (not true steam) and don't have the power to penetrate materials; the "steam" cools down too much to be lethal before it reaches them.

These fuckers live a year without feeding, so technically you need to do this a year. I did it for 3 months (resetting the timer each time I got bit) and got rid of them.

they don't work and are a waste of money. The only thing they do that isn't a waste of money is bringing in the dog to show you where they're hiding.

Fuck man go to a pro. I've tried diatomaceous earth, steam cleaning washing sheets. The fuckers will not go away until you nuke everything. Don't fuck around with bed bugs man.
