I’m on the verge of losing my well paid white collar job- I’m on a pip and it’s not going well so I’m likely going to be funemployed soon. Im not sure I want to go back to that kind of work, it’s changing a lot with ai and probably won’t exist in a few years anyway. I make 200k in a hcol area, which means if I want a hustle to be equivalent it’s gonna need to make like $100hr. I think at that bill rate I can’t do anything commodity, it’d have to be custom/expensive, so I can’t run a print farm and sell flexidrsgons, but instead like life size T. rex skeleton sculpture cast in aluminum for a museum. Alternatively my buddy owns his own cncs and runs 3 big cncs for aviation parts, I could probably learn to run some cncs and buy some more and maybe hire technician to grow his business. Anyone done anything like this? At my salary level diy is hard to get to pencil out

Take all your vacation time and apply elsewhere. If they fire you for taking vacation time you can sue

>make 200k/yr
>new job needs to make me 100/hr
Now I cant answer your question, but I can call you a faggot retard. At 200k/yr you should have 0 debt and so much socked away in retirement funds, brokerage accounts, precious metals, and crypto that you can tell the world to fuck off for at least a decade, but you made this thread so probably not. I'll say this, when you have a solid defense, the offense doesn't need to work as hard. And when there's not a lot of pressure on the offence, you don't have to ask the biggest collection of retards on the internet for job advice

I have unlimited pto so not really an option.
>>2999632
I’ve been working for like 15 years and have a bunch saved-invested but am nowhere near retirement. I have young kids so I will have lots of expenses for many more years. I could stop working for at least a decade but then I’d be in my 50s and broke. I want to restore my income stream so I continue to save for my retirement.
>>
>pay me $100/hour outside of my vocation
That's not how it works.
>>
>>2999676
I mean if I can produce goods/services for customers whose willingness to pay >= 100/hr then yeah, that’s what it is. I don’t think that’s impossible. I have done consulting in the past and billed more than that, but that was all techy-office work.
I want to use my hands/mind in a more practical sense so that’s why I’m investigating some kind of diy/physcial gig itt.

You have to be a special kind of retard to get put on a PIP. Pure skill issue.

holy kek. why do people fall for this shit?

>I’m on a pip
A pip means you're fired but they don't have a good reason to fire you yet. You should have been looking for a job the second they brought up the word pip.

You know, if you're cosplaying as a clown, you should at least put in some effort. Take these two for reference.

Yeah I did a little research and in my state I think I can still get unemployment for 26 wks at the max amount of 1200/wk even if I fail the pip, and I just need to apply for 3 jobs/wk to stay eligible. So maybe I’ll do that and take a staycation/spend time with my kids/do adventures etc. I think it’s all fair as long as I don’t make an income and do at least the bare minimum. So maybe I can do hobby stuff during unemployment and see if any of it is actually fulfilling to be doing commercially.

You gotta know how to abuse it. At my job, if you got the request in far enough out no one would ask about it. There almost always wasn't a conflict with anyone else's requests and, by the time it was actually coming up, it had been on the board so long they basically forgot about it. "Doctors appointment? You gotta use sick time." Well, if I put it in 2 months out, they won't ask and I won't tell. Fuck it. I'll schedule it for a Monday and request the whole day. "Vehicle service? We won't give you time off for that." Schedule that one for a Tuesday after a holiday to get a 4 day weekend. Picking up someone from the airport? I'm awful tired from being on the road for 2 hours round trip, better put in for the the whole day.

You know when I wouldn't request time off? Major holidays. The lead up to Christmas on through New Years and the week after was peak. All of our clients are closed, most of the staff are gone, and the bosses are out of the country. I would come in and all of my work would be done in the first hour. Last year it was literally myself, one assistant, and my supervisor (who took me under his wing and explained how to do all this shit in the first place) literally watching Netflix and eating company snacks for two and a half weeks. We got three calls the whole time. I took 176 hours of PTO last year and didn't once take more than two days off.

Now, if they track your billable hours, that is a different story. I would have been fucked if they did that.

How can I fumble into a $200k/yr job that I'm not qualified for?? Please share
>>
>>2999779
I had previously been making 150k at this company but did an internal transfer to my current role for 200k. It’s got some commonality to my prior job but it’s different enough from my past work that I’m not that good at it (yet/or maybe ever) So I guess I was good enough at the interview to get the new job and ‘fake it til I make it’ for a while but now it’s all tumbling down before I got to the ‘make it’ stage. Cest la vie I guess.

tl;dr
if you're working at a place with "unlimited" PTO, you don't, in fact, have "unlimited" PTO. you're at the mercy of your manager, who, at most places, will get mad if you take more than four weeks off during the year. additionally, "unlimited" PTO means if you leave the company, you don't get paid for unused time. taking a job with "unlimited" PTO is basically an automatic pay cut.

take a chunk of savings and put it into something so common it's obscure. like a spring factory. or a quarry. had a friend that bought a quarry for whatever mineral goes into kitty litter, he makes a shit ton now. the craft-adjacent mainstream stuff is all being undercut by chinks. or just buy a couple car washes. my 250k tech job is safe, if you think ai is going to take your job you're fucking retarded
>>
>>2999855
depends on the company. if they're sticklers about YTO they'll be sticklers about PTO as well. getting PTO paid out really doesn't matter that much at 200k/yr. pre-tax you're getting 9k/check, 4 weeks would be 18k/tax which comes out to like 12k take home. nice but not a huge deal, i spend more than that on a whim

Yeah the unlimited pto thing is fine, I take enough that I’m not getting screwed. Also I’m mid career and have worked many jobs so I know several company/industry norms and can adjust. I mostly take time off when my breadwinner wife does.
>>2999856
I’ve been thinking about this too. That’s why I’m considering going into cnc business with my buddy. I’m pretty entrepreneurial so I think I could help scale it from fun money side hustle to real money.
I’m kinda at a junction- I see 4 choices.
1. Stay unemployed. Be the primary caretaker for my small kids. Save a small fortune in daycare. Maybe go back to work in a few years once the kids are in school (or if schools suck homeschool the kids)
2. Get another well compensated corporate job, in the 200-250k range (and pay almost 6 figures in daycare, which is what I’m doing now.)
3. Found a company. I’ve got a y combinator worthy idea that I think could be successful but it’s high effort, high risk, uncertain payout.
4. I do some kind of running a diy/trades/skilled thing business.

All of you faggots are the epitome of disgusting.
