hello all, recently bought a farm with this steel building id like to turn into a shop, the previous owners somehow installed this loose celulose insulation all over the inside of the building but its all falling down and gets on everything. any way to remove this that wont take a year or give me cancer? local hillbillies suggested lighting it on fire. scraping it takes forever
>>
Pressure wash a small patch for shits and giggles.

Soak the insulation with a hose before you blast it. Lay down some weed block or burlap to catch it.

You should be able to just torch that and then pressure wash the ashes.
>>
Honestly probably a long handled shovel scraper is going to be the best bet to get the bulk of it off. Suit up with some tyvek and get some scaffolding and some help and get to scraping. A guy could try one of those wire wheels on a weed-eater if you want to get it cleaner than a scraper leaves it. Are you going back with more spray in foam or leaving it bare?
>>
have you tried pressure washing it off? not with a walmart toy but with a 4000 psi gas washer with the 0 or 15 degree nozzle
or hire sandblasting with non cutting media so as to not destroy the galvanization
its gonna suck either way

It's opposite day at /diy/.

Do you normally remove sheds from your insulation?
>>
>>3003989
most cellulose insulation is treated with flame retardant.

Guess that's an USA thing. Not so ova here.

Why try to remove it? Insulation in a metal building is much better that no insulation in a metal building.

Could you spray it with something to stabilize it? Or cover it up with plywood or siding?
>>
>>3004109
It looks completely fucked to me. Anything sprayed over the top of it will eventually fail because it is going to have to adhere to that cellulose that is already failing. Being a quonset it would be difficult to sheet the inside with anything without it being a giant pain in the ass.

Damn, that sucks. Definitely wear a respirator, gloves, earplugs. I'd probably try the pressure washer first. that will keep the dust down
