/sci/ feels too sci for this and /out/ is a little less /sci/ for this subject so im wondering if this fits on /diy/? anyways, does anyone have a weather station and if so is it custom built, or one of the prebuilts like pic related. if its prebuilt is there a good guide to build?

Ambient Weather units are the gold standard. The outdoor units have a battery, a supercapacitor, and a solar panel. The software stuff is unfortunately cloud based and clunky but everything works well and the sensors are well built and there are sensors for literally everything.

It came with an indoor display but I use an SDR to capture the signal and feed it into a Home Assistant dashboard. I do plan to eventually build my own hard wired station. The only "problem" I've had with the SainLogic was when I noticed the wind speed and direction had been stuck all day. Went outside and found that a Joro spider had used the weather station as part of its web. Got to give it credit for being able to weave a web strong enough to keep the anemometer from spinning but maybe it did it at night when there's little wind.
If you do build your own, humidity sensors are shit and will drift and become useless overtime, currently using a si7021 which despite heater and teflon coating shows erratic values most of the time after a year outside

What do you compare your sensor's humidity reading to in order to know it's gone bad?
