Planning a shelf build and need help with hinges. Looking for>Soft-Close>Concealed>Compact>European>Overlay>Face Frame>Preferred Black or Onyx BlackEverything I search keeps feeding me inset or some other random bullshit I'm not looking for. Width of door frame can be adjusted so I can live without compact. But overlay and face frame is a must for felt strip lining to dust-proof the display area. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Figure out your overlay and go through blum or grass catalogs.
>>3005134Literal cabinet hardware boss here. Online retailer since 1999. Large physical store. Supplier to hundreds of cabinet makers and kitchen designers. My own line of compact euros, not a huge player, but I have literally 400,000 hinges in stock in my possession and I do this non stop.I had a site with 1500 visits a day (now defunct because of life circumstances) called HingeDummy my brother and I built on Dreamweaver. So...I hit the main spots first.>OnyxThis is a preference that you will likely need to just do away with. They are concealed, can't be seen, no one makes them in anything but a zinc or galvanatized at best for outdoor. If you find them, you'll pay out the ass for something you can't even see.>>3005141This guys advice is short but pretty good. I'd suggest the Richelieu catalog as well. Pro-tip: They are all made in the same factory in China. 90%+ are the same hinge regardless of brand or manufacturer if you keep with "top brands."You are going to have to visually look through a catalog with these ideas in mind. You are also likely going to need to order a single pair and test the fit.Since you are doing a new build, it will be easier, anyone replacing old hinges MUST test a pair as there are too many small variables that changed over 30 years of manufacturing. You can just search the terms you used.Typical is a 1/2" overaly.Just search "1/2" overlay compact hinge."
Also, my thread now too.AMA kek
>>3005141I drew up plans for face framing that gives a standard 1 1/2" that also gives 3 1/4 inches for areas where doors will be meeting on the same framing. Overlay is negotiable but I do need enough width/distance for glass paneling with standard 3/8 rabbet depth.>cataloguesDid finds this website from a video during my research.https://www.woodworkerexpress.com/cabinet-hinges-compact/I started here but the lack of screws included was annoying so I started looking around elsewhere.>>3005147Most impressive. Onyx was just a preference. It would stand out when opened with the rest of the hardware being black to match items on the desk below, but it's fine.>same hinge no matter who sells itPretty helpful to know. I think we can expect this across most brands now>anyone replacing old hingesThe website I dropped below proclaims a free hinge matching service if that is a resource you would like to share with others.>search '1/2 overlay'I can try that again after another look through the website. The results just don't understand keywords or something because it'll explicitly serve me 'inset, not for face framing' results just because I put 'face frame hinges' as part of the query. These engines have clearly been lobotomized.>>3005148Lol, okay. Gotta recycle if necessaryThanks for the help. Any other advice is appreciated. Been pushing this off and now I'm not stopping until my perfect custom desk/shelf is done.
>>3005161Engines lobotomized to keep you from finding me basically. I don't doxx online, especially for a small sale, lol.But I sell some items to the company you mentioned above. Before all the rigging in search I had 3000 google "hits" a day. Now I'm at 300 (15 years later) and all traffic is served to those who pay for it even in "organic".Most places will help you if you call. I think WWX there has a guy even. I'm the guy at my place, haha. Hinges fuck people up.Screws included is always an annoyance because a place like you mentioned, as well as me, are supply shops with their own boxes of 25,000 #5 screws. Something like that. They all take #5 screws and probably sell a pack on their site.Use the keyword "compact" every time I'd say.Protip again. Another thing Google stole from me (1500 image results a day). Search through images and click through from there. You can ID with your eyes and then go to the landing page.
>>3005147Oh great God of hinges, I entrust myself to You, asking You to suggest what type of hinges I should use for the doors of a small van. I would prefer screw-on ones because the material is very thin and my vertical welding technique is terrible. I love You
>>3005134>>Preferred Black or Onyx BlackI don't see why you're having a problem finding what you need other than preferring them in black.Build your cabinet, pick your hinges, then cut your doors to fit. It's just simple math, just add 1/8th for clearance and seams where you need to.
