I want to apply a cosmetic patch to my jacket. I believe the patch is iron on. The problem is that the jacket itself is a cheap polyester puffer. How would I go about doing this? Is it even possible? Picrel, its the jacket.
>>3005298bumping with an additional question as ive done a little research. could i use possibly use ShoeGoo to attach it? i used to use that stuff nigh on 20 years ago to repair my shoes if i had to. is it viable? sorry for the bump with more questions.
>>3005298I'd consider using a heat gun or something to activate the hot glue on the patch then slap it on the polyester. Using an iron or heat gun on the jacket might fuck it up but the hot patch might not. Or just stitch it on best you can by hand, I guess.
>>3005339the stitching would fuck up the fabric, i think. i could try a heat gun to heat the patch itself and then apply it that way. starting to consider straight up buying a second jacket for this lol
>>3005298Hand sew a velcro patch on the outer fabric only
>>3005726that would fuck up the waterproofing.
>>3005754Is it goretex?
>>3005298How cheap? Like Costco cheap?I have an old puffy for reservist shenanigans and I've tossed it, but gorilla tape helped really extend it's lifespan.
>>3005765it was on clearance online for around 30$, but full msrp is around $70. you can kinda tell its cheaply made too.might look into gorilla tape for repairs later on when its needed.>>3005761no. its polyester.
>>3005773How is it water proof other than having wax sprayed on it?
>>3005774according to the page it has a 5000mm waterproof finish on it, beyond that, i have no idea. did you come into the thread to pick a fight over waterproofing, or what?
>>3005298>>3005726Funny, have a Columbia jacket I was looking to do that to for ages, but never got to actually do it; my idea was to get an embroided logo made off AliExpress, and even got the period appropriate svg logo, but I like the velcro patch idea
easy, iron the patch on like normal but be slow. use a super low iron setting and put a thin fabric between the iron and the jacket/patch like a dish towel to further reduce the heat. only iron the area of the patch, not like a wide radius around it
>>3006025also no steam
>>3005298using a iron on low (without steam) on polyester is fine, I did it on setting 2/3 and it didn’t burn anything and melted the fusible web for the felt fine.just don’t expect it to remain on, I sewed the felt on mine after using the appliqué glue to keep it in place.
Liquid stitch. You are welcome.
