Make sure your ground plane is rock solid. Check out Manhattan style circuits.>What should I look out for? What are some mistakes that I need to avoid?Using cheap materials, cheap soldering irons, cheap anything. Basic electronics is a very cheap hobby so pay the money for decent components. They really are worth it. A good soldering iron is really all you need to buy. You can make PCB holders, helping hands, fume extractors, just about anything else cheaply yourself. Don't go out and buy those weird boxes of components that have 100 each of shitty Chinese mystery resisters, half of which are values you will never use and are all out of spec. Buy what you need when you need it. Shipping is the real killer. You'd spend $15 pm components for your project and $20 on shipping. Maybe have a few projects saved up so you can do a bulk purchase and save a bit. If so, where from?No need to reinvent the wheel if someone has already designed exactly what you need. That said, if you don't even know what you want to make, you should probably start with that. Once you have something then do the research. Instructables or YouTube might have it but your best bet is forums. Older the better. There are forums dedicated to every topic known to man and some of them are over 40 years old at this point. If there isn't a peddle schematic floating around on one of them that some rando posted in 1996 and that has been build by a thousand different people, all who say it is great, I would be shocked.

>>3006253Pedals are physically more difficult to build than amps or guitar wiring. This is because they're simply smaller both in parts and installing the board and wiring into a pedal enclosure. However, they are very cheap. You can practice, and screw up, and move on. Fuzzes and distortions are a good place to start because they have low parts count. You're learning to build at this point. You'd do perfboard and study circuits if you want to trial ideas or design. Guitar FX Layouts has a huge collection of veroboard diagrams. Vero is a perfboard that's in conductive rows. It allows us to build circuits almost eliminating jumper wires. It's also inexpensive and can normally be bandsawed to build multiple pedals from one board. Tayda and other sites should sell unpopulated pcb. It's kind of random what you'll find, but I've gotten good mileage out of their purple plexi.
