Why does the Mitsubishi cost 4 times more than the no name brand?

Because someone buys it.

If you're looking at minisplits, more expensive ones have inverter modulation on the compressor (slightly better power efficiency and less startup current) and better "quiet" modes (important if you want to sleep by it, not so important for work/average spaces). Mitsubishi is still one of the expensive brands.

The price of a used Mitsubishi is about the same as what I can buy a new no name brand mini split off of the marketplace apps. If its just a Chinese knockoff is it really that different?

The chinkshit is going to work most likely. Question is if you want all the extra shit and warranty (that you don't get from a used Mitsubishi). Buy an LG or equivalent if you want slightly better than the cheapest chinkshit.

I don't think any warranty extends to DIY installation.

Not unless they explicitly advertise it, no. Fancy brands 100% will not give you any warranty if they can help it. Cheap brands and no-name would be easier to warranty because they don't care to check if authorized installer did the install or not. If it's for a bedroom, I'd still recommend one that has ultra quiet run mode for the interior unit, otherwise just buy a cheap one, maybe one with inverter at least, nowadays it's all cheap.
