So if I can give them a price they're happy with and that I feel fine with, I dont feel the need to ask for as much as i possibly can. Mind as well be 90F on that roof. Also, you're probably just getting the cheap shingles from a home improvement store and not the quality shit. My last contractor who did my roof back in 2015 fucked me over with this and now the shingles are breaking apart and they also didn't follow industry standards and so there are gaps in many places. If someone wasn't there to check their work as they went every day the house would probably have fallen over in a year. I was out there sweating my ass off and we took plenty of breaks when the sun started shining straight on. the job itself isnt that hard (carrying plywood/materials, climbing, bending, etc) its the heat that makes it a bitch. you have to be kinda crazy to do it for 20 years though

Every once in a while we do a slate roof, but few and far between because they last forever and are ultra fucking expensive to replace not just because of the slate tiles, but because almost 100% of the time all the flashings and gutters are soldered copper and have to be replaced.

Just pick an underlayment rated for that level of UV exposure and high wind nail it so it doesn’t blow off. A big boy synthetic underlayment like Titanium UDL 30 or UDL 50 and decent ice and water shield can keep an unfinished roof dry for months as long as it’s dried in correctly.
