They're pretty heavy so they're not much fun to swing around unless the soil really demands it. A grub hoe is probably better for most soil types. You can take a big swing and not hurt your back at all

i have a spade sds attachment for my milwaukee demo hammer
it's pretty awesome. especially in florida with clay
has saved many a many hours of struggle digging
if we're just talking regular dirt then it's completely unnecessary
