OP, Tapered Thread works fine as long as it's made reasonably well.
What you likely experienced was monkey metal garbage that had a threadform outside the mean.
You should be cursing your own niggardly and kikeish nature that led you to buy inferior components, instead of the threadform.

Just give er another wrap or two of Teflon tape and send it home. It'll be fine. Red loctite will make them not leak as well, but you might have fun taking it back apart without heat.
