Got this old coffee grinder from the 60s; it turns, but the blade won't turn, or loosely.
It's a Braun KSM1. Only have picrel, no box, no manual or accessories.
Bottom cover opens with two screws, but can't see how to get past that.

The motor is running, but the blade won't spin, right?
>>
>>3007979
It kinda does, but irregularly/ at slow speed; won't engage properly.

Could be a loose cog spinning around its shaft
>>

There's probably some sort of plastic clutch(used to prevent the motor from stalling) that has given up. Seeing that this was made in Spain, it's probably over 50 years old(nobody makes consumer appliances in the west anymore) and the plastic became brittle with age. You'll need to separate the motor and blades and look to 3D print your own clutch/slip plate/whatever.

The model itself is from the late 60s. It was bought around then or in the early 70s.
Plastic is sturdy and as good as new, not even yellowed (it was kept in the shade).
Not certain if anything broken at all or just loose. Parts will probably be easily sourced from China anyway.
Anyway just realized there's a bolt inside accessible through an opening in the bottom cover that the blade attaches to and was able to unscrew it. Still need to open the whole thing. I'm guessing the grey part detaches from the white one, but it hasn't budged yet.

It's actually a model CR1:

That kind of coffee grinder is shit anyway. Might as well throw your beans in a blender.
>>
i get trying to fix things that sort of work, but i don't think a 60-year old coffee grinder is worth it. i wouldn't really want to drink coffee that was ground in it even if you got it to work.

I know lol just curiosity/nostalgia
Anyway, they're still selling it (ksm2/cr3), pretty much the same thing slightly redesigned
>>
Do you live in Spain or somewhere with 220V?

What do you mean by "it turns but the blade won't turn"? As in, the motor will turn but the blade is detached?
>>
>>3008167
Close: Portugal
Motor spins ok, but blade kinda slips
>>
>>3008136
>they're still selling it
I have a philips orange juicer that's probably older than me, made in romania. Apparently philips still carry this exact same model, just made in china now.
>>
Just buy a new DC motor
>>
Looks similar to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-P8N5o3A0M

Doesn't seem to have any kind of clutch or coupler, either the blade assembly is loose on the shaft, try turning it with a screwdriver from the bottom slot in the motor while holding the blade like in the video or the motor has a broken winding and runs irregularly

Repairing tools is always tricky. Bushings and brushes, and all sorts of issues pop up. The problem being that's a $15 grinder and it's going to take you some hours and luck to repair.

It's good for learning about repair, but poor for return of value. Blade grinders are poor for coffee grinding to start as they shatter the beans into flakes and fines. Hand grinders of similar cost can deliver noticeable better results.

Thanks for video; been busy with other stuff and haven't tried sgain.. Will do it coming days
>>3010840
It hasn't been used to grind coffee since (very) long; nowadays it's just been used to grind sugar.

Yes, finally!
Turns out all I needed was to rotate the grey part, which is held by the three tabs in the pic.
And, yes, it looks like the olive/sleeve ("bearing") is the culprit, just as in the video; it's not stuck, bur it definitely offers some resistance, obviously some accumulated gunk in there. Should by fine in no time.

Btw, when was the last time you saw a square nut? Meccano had them, but that was all the way back in the 60s...
>>
>>3008216
It could be gunked up? Maybe deep clean it?

Well then; that's the whole of two of us now...
Anyway, a quick update: managed to remove the circlips holding the 3 pins in the pic, but wasn't able to disassemble this thing yet.
>>
>>3011633
It definitely is; it could even be somewhat corroded, but wasn't able to fully disassemble it yet: >>3012120

Incredibly common in electrical.
Also common in the very large sizes and farm equipment.

not exactly the same but useful

What is a good grinder that lasts at all

I bought mine at aliexpress yes I know but that is ok
This world isn't

They've been largely displaced from most uses since hex nuts came about, though

In industrial and interior design circles, braun is a favorite. I'd say it's worth fixing just because it's stylish. My parents had a similar model for over 3 decades and only recently trashed it.
