What do you use?Pegboard?OBS?Gridfinity?Din rails?
>>3009012I toss everything in a toolboxOnly stuff with sharp edges have the luxury of getting their own storage
>>3009012I’m making French cleats to try them out. I I used to just screw wooden holders directly to the wall but I’m running out of studs to screw stuff to.>>3009016This anon is right tho, only sharps and quick-grab stuff like squares and clamps should be exposed on the wall. All else goes into a tote or toolbox on a shelf or in a drawer instead of catching dust all the time. People with a ‘power tool wall’ mostly just have them to show off imo
>>3009012Some metallic pegboards like pic rail with square holes. Got it from a ship renovation for cheap, shortly before rona.>>3009017>catching dustIsn't that the whole point? I open up the window. Give the wall two shots of pressured air. All clean.
Pegboards and labeled coffee cans
>>3009012>PegboardOp casually not even hiding his faggotry
>>3009012Nowadays, I’d assume you could just use a metal backplate and use magnets.Stuff like pegboard was invented before we had freely available neodymium magnets.
The little cheap allen wrenches from furniture :D
>>3009016>>3009017Don't you lose your items? I labeled my power supplies into voltages and put them into bags. I don't want to move my 15 different size wrenches to find the one I need. Maybe even leave the bits in their own case. >>3009046You can magnetize metal pegboard too. >>3009052Genius. How are they mounted?
>>3009012>PegboardYou mean /d/?
>>3009063Just drilled pilot holes and hammered them in
>>3009042What do you put in the coffee cans?
>>3009157Screws, nuts, bolts, the regular
Plywood on where it's convenient on the wall with screws and nails. For machine rooms and my shop. For the garage a pegboard for long stuff like levels and saws and hammers, and a big husky toolbox under the pegboard for everything else, and a big drawer for power tools.Everyone has their own system, so just use whatever reduces cognitive load for you personally. For some people it's just a toolbox with everything in it. The only advice i have is stay away from any canvas organizers or toolbags.
I have a gallon plastic jug screwed to the wall next to my pegboard for my grease gun since it's continually leaking
Just finally moved into a house and got my hand me down craftsmen tool chest, been hitting HF for everything they have for organization lately. Got those cheap rails for sockets, pliers rack, various things for wrenches, magnetic bit holder.Sadly its mostly for show as I carry my most used tools in the car and they're the first I grab when working even at home.
>>3009182That reminds me of my silent gen/great depression era grandparents. They used to do practical stuff like that.
>>3009012I just leave it all in a big pile.
Slatboard? Anyone used it?
>>3009012Ideally I would want to put everything on a rolling pegboard, but I don’t like the space they take up. For now I just leave everything on a 3tier shelf or stuffed in a locker. I like lockers because I can open them to see everything inside instead of having to open 20 drawers. And if I wanted I can still use a dolly to move them. They can also be customized
I recently made this drawer that goes under my bed and has all my tools, i plan to make a second one as well. I don't use any other method as my room is also my workshop...
Put up plywood in the polebarnUse screws, 3dp, magnet bars to hold everything to itIts great
>>3009012I have a wall with several magnetic tool holders mounted.Another wall in my shed is plywood, to which I screwed in a bunch perforated steel pipe hanger strapping to hang tools and clamps fromThe rest of my shit is in piles because I'm a very disorganized person, completely unmotivated to make a better storage system.
>>3009012Regular old pegboard. People hate on it these days but it's cheap, easy, readily available, and easy to cut to fit specific areas (like the back of the workbench) and to reconfigure. I also have a US General tool cart but I've tried to be strict about what actually goes in there (basically strictly mechanic tools and small specialty items), and everything else on the pegboard or stashed in a cabinet if it's an infrequently used thing.
>>3010907Oh that was an old pic, here's a more up to date one.
>>3009052Fuck that's actually genius. At my last place of employment they had BUCKETS of 4mm allens from some bullshit they bought en mass. I should have taken some!!
>>3010926I have an assload of 4" long 1/4" galvanized rods that I cut from cattle panels when squaring them up for projects. Also a ton of 5/16 hardened spring steel rake teeth. I keep all that shit for stuff like this.
>>3011005Clean work, friend. Lookin good!
>>3011197Thanks frienThat was an "in progress" pic of this socket organizer for my tool cart. Been in use for a while now and its been good. I also built some socket organizers for a couple of drawers in my service truck and some that fit in an ammo can for a portable socket set in one of my pickups. Need to do some more for other things, but these things do take some time to lay-out and get right and I don't have that kind of time to dedicate to them as of right now.
I guess I like boxes for alike tools/kits and carts for bigger stuff or things I have too much of. Recently bought this little rolling toolbox at auction for 22 bucks if I remember right. Right full of tools and other crap, which I didn't even know about as they didn't have any pictures of the inside of the drawers. So got some decent tools/hardware there. Had to fix up the drawers and the flip/slide bottom compartment door. Had a 3/8" plate crappily spotted on top that overhung the top and sides by 6-8 inches on every side, so scored a nice piece of steel too. Got the casters rolling nicely and added a handle to the one end. Anyways, I was tired of my porta power stuff being in two extremely heavy boxes and a pain in the ass to drag out when I needed it. So I re-purposed this cart to be my mobile porta power station. Built a divider for the top drawer to keep the extensions and feet somewhat organized. Next drawer down is some extra porta power fittings and hoses. 3rd drawer down is the hydraulic attachments and the bottom flip/slide compartment is my hand pumps, air over hydro pump, and a couple big hollow rams that wouldn't fit in a drawer. Now I can roll this cart up to what I'm working on and have everything I need right there. Also changed out all my quick connect fittings for some nice ones from Summit Hydraulics. Hopefully that cuts down on the amount of fluid leakage.
A year or two ago I made this tire tool cart for most of my tire tools. It has places for my slide hammer bead breakers, duckbill hammers, a tire spreader mounted on a swingaway arm, and all my tire spoons on the other end. Have air over hydro jacks on the bottom shelf as well as a bucket of tire lube and a bucket of tire slime. Honestly just having a place for all this stuff is a lifesaver. And the best part is I can stick it in the corner by the tire machine, and if it's in the way I can just roll it somewhere else and it makes it super easy to clean in that corner too. Roll it the hell out of the way and sweep.
