are there people who live 100% offgrid in southern europe or are there laws prohibiting it?
>>3010599I'm fairly certain all firstworld countries make it illegal, usually not explicitly but by a large combination of smaller laws. You are a slave on a plantation.
>>3010599How will you have internet if you're off the grid
>>3010607little company called
spacex
has been putting a few satellites into orbit for that purpose
>>3010599Yes>are there laws prohibiting it?That's like 10 countries, but you can't just make remote farms and mountains illegal so I'm going to say no
>>3010599They exist but it depends on your definition of 100% off-grid. I doubt anyone anywhere is actually 100% self-sufficient. If you mean energy - lots of them, sun is abundant. Food - much less, but they exist - you need gardens, foraging potential which is not as abundant in southern europe, and livestock. Tools and other shit - even less
>>3010599Generally, in Europe:There is no law forcing you to be on the grid. There is law forcing you to build in zoned areas, and there is law to maintain a certain living standard if you want to have children. There may be water collection/use laws, but more likely not. So you can be off-grid if you buy or mildly renovate an existing remote/off-grid house. You cannot buy land in wherever and build a house on it. You can buy land in villages/towns, build a normal house in zoned areas, and then keep it off-grid. If you have children, your place cannot be a total dump where they have to shit in a ditch outdoors.
>>3010625"the grid" doesn't mean just physically hooked up by pipe and wire.
>>3010605What kind of laws would that be? In my (eastern european) country it's much cheaper and somewhat easier to go fully offgrid as opposed to hooking up electrical, gas, municipal water and sewer.
>>3010677many beauracratic laws, the big one is building codes. If your domicile (even for solitary private use) is not up to code it will be condemned and the government will forcibly remove you, fine you, charge you even going to prison if you fight it.and if you purchase remote land you can bet government will send inspectors to snoop.but even such things as zoning enforcement, making checks to see you havent made a landfill, collecting land taxes, etc... you will be monitored and made to stay on the plantation.
>>3010676You either want to have internet or you don't.
>>3010707And having it means you're on the grid, end of story.
sorry for confising you guys, by offgrid i meant no connection to any of the national energy/water/gas operators>>3010660stumbled upon yt video where a couple bought a house by the sea in southern italy which was exactly what i'm looking for, wonder if they can get proof of address to be registered as a resident in a house with no utilities>>3010677it's too cold and not enough sunlight here
>>3010769It's typically subject to zoning either directly or indirectly. If a house has existed for a long enough time in a spot, you can usually get accepted as a legacy residential address even if you are not in correct zoning. Ask Grok to look up laws of whichever country. >sunlightYou will not be on pure renewables in Europe, no matter where you go, far southward it starts becoming vaguely possible if you place absolute shittons of solar.
>>3010599More like offyid
>>3010599There's quite a few abandoned villages/rural properties over here; a few have been occupied over the last decades by hippy style people (mostly foreigners; germans, etc.), some by shady cults; tv has aired pieces about some of those.
