Oil change is a scam ... I haven't changed my oil since 2017 and the car still runs fine
i had the rare privilege of encountering a friend of a friend with a car with a relevant oil change story.>be the 'car guy' of the friend circle>be friends with guy>guy is friends with chick>chick is 2nd remove friend, but still ok>chick traded up cars and gave/soft-sold old car to guy friend>guy has GF now driving the car>car won't start, strands the GF after workshift on nearby side of town and am closer than guy friend>also am the 'car guy' so get called to help>get to parking lot, 2am, its a camry or some shit, not filthy but not gods gift to used cars either>ask about car history since didn't know this was mutual friend car>insist they took 'good care' of this car>can't figure out why it won't start. no CEL, has fuel, seems to have spark, nothing to indicate exotics things, like ecm deth, bad gas, other weird shit, and has a simple cluster without good gauges.>check air filter, filthy as hell but still not blocked enough to stop car from breathing>air filter bad enough lead to thought of 'if air filter is bad...'>pull dipstick, has oil 'thank god'>oil has no viscosity lief, literally completely spent and runs off the dipstick like fucking water.>oil is so spent as to be several 10s of thousands miles used>took 'good care' of this car alright...>middle of nite, not making effort to find open store to get stuff to do parking lot oil change, not going to schlep this GF back home to make 90 min drive there and 90 min home>buy bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer, dump whole bottle in>helps build enough oil pressure that car finally starts>tell guy friend car is fucked, and chick friend probably had no idea they fucked it.
>>3011813>>helps build enough oil pressure that car finally startsYour story makes no sense. The engine is going to start regardless of low/nonexistent oil pressure unless it's already locked up. Also you type like a brown ESL. This didn't happen, and if it did, it wasn't the Lucas that got the car running again.
>>3011807Your car still needs oil? What kind of third world shithole do you live in?
>>3011813Never tell this story again. I am dumber for having read it.
>>3011807>Oil change is a scam ... I haven't changed my oil since 2017 and the car still runs fine
>>3011813you were so smart to check the air filter first ... thanks for the protip "car guy"
>>3011807People think like this because they think that the problems oil change prevents happen gradually and they'll be able to avoid damage by not using the car if they feel like a problem is coming up.Instead when the moving parts go to shit due to a big enough metal flake due to poor oil, it happens instantly, a full stop out of nowhere as a bit of metal debris jams up the entire thing and then you're fuckedIt won't make stuttering noises, it won't gradually act funny like it's about to break, it's instantaneous when it happens
>>3011959the theory is the wearing metal needs to be removed or it will act like a hone and wear out the beyond tolerances so oil starts burning and there's blow-by and lack of power ... not a sudden catastrophic failure
>>3012691>>3011959Oil doesn't last forever when in use. It is not just a problem with debris. Over time oil simply loses the ability to effective lubricate. It is not just contamination with debris or the filter would fix that problem. It is the oil itself breaking down because of heat and other environmental issues. That is why newer formulations of higher quality oil can go longer between changes even in older motors. They are more resistant to breaking down and can do their job for more miles than the cheap/old stuff can.
>>3012708sure. funny how it existed miles underground under pressure for thousands of years and never "broke down"
>>3011807Ill pour one out for ya
>>3012712Isn’t engine oil flammable to some degree? I see your argument, though.
