>>3013618Anchoring stuff on a sailboat. Or do you mean ropecraft in general?
>>3013628>Anchoring stuff on a sailboat. So basically only for niche cases. Why is this supposedly the "king of knots"?>Or do you mean ropecraft in general?I mean the bowline in particular. Though I'd say that ropecraft in general is not that useful, but there are few times where it comes in handy.
>>3013618Useful for lifting stuff
>>3013633There are simpler knots for that. Hell even a slipknot can be used to lift a hammer between floors.
>>3013634The bowline is already pretty simple. Are you stupid and need things to be braindead easy?
>>3013618I use bowline all over the boat I sail on. Attaching halyards that don't have clips, attaching sheets, etc. It's just a nice, convenient way to tie a loop on the end of a line that is sturdy and won't slip (except under fairly extreme circumstances) but that won't jam up and be impossible to untie. I also use it a lot tying stuff down like whenever I need a loop affixed to the end of a rope to tie to or make another complex hitch, and for things like guy lines. If I need to make a loop mid line though I use the alpine butterfly.
>>3013618* Good stopper/grab handle knot (dog leashes and such)* Non-jamming fixed loop, as opposed to slipknot, so very useful as a point for carabiners and so on (million and one uses really)* Quick to tie and untie
