>>3134199Because someone thought it was funny to say in every thread "Taking X requests" and never fill a single one. And when we told him he took no fucking request since several threads, he says "Your requests were shitty", and when we ask him what's a non shitty requests, he spoke chinese.> i bet it might be for the requester to be able to refuse I guess there is a part of truth too. Why we should "waste" both of our times if the the requester isn't satisfied? Not by the quality, but by the style, I mean, if the drawfriend have a western style, but the requester want to request a more anime/manga style (or vice versa):1) There is a high chance that the drawfriend won't be interested at allor2) Drawfriend will pick the idea anyway, but using his style, and the request is disappointed because he thought the style will be at least more or less like the original charctere design. If we saw a drawfriend sharing an art sample about Fire Emblem, I guess if we suggest something related to Tales of series, we will have a chance to get the request filled. At least more chance than requesting Resident Evil or Dark souls.
>>3134204oooh well, that can be solved by indicating the preferred style in each request since we all know what a "more western" style is and how it differs from a ¿"more asian"? style (or should we keep calling it "eastern"?). things like, "keep the style from the ref", "or i dont care about the style", etc. allows us artists to know wheter we might take or not the request, ence avoiding the waste or our (my) time and your request...

Heyo, I asked in a drawthread a few months ago about some tips to get started learning and got some really helpful responses with like google doc links to books, starter exercises, etc.Unfortunately I had a computer failure recently and am on a new box, and I've tragically lost all of that shit.I dunno if this is even the right board I asked but if you have a vague idea of what kind of stuff that might have been or anything else you'd recommend for a complete starter learning who wants to make cute girl good, I would appreciate it.

>>3127520There was some talk recently on the /h/ drawthread to remove the rule that prohibits non-requested artwork from being posted.>>>/h/8962301I would like to propose that it is removed from this drawthread's OP as well. It's restrictive, and quite frankly with the deviantART jab, quite childish. I assume this is a holdover from a very long time ago, and no one bothered to update the drawthread OP as more often than not it gets mindlessly copy pasted to the new thread when its made.I would like to offer a new drawthread OP rule list with some wording changes and things removed/added:-------Rules of the thread:> 1. Keep requests /e/, they must follow board rules.> 2. Include full names and what series your characters are from.> 3. Compile multiple images into one or link to a gallery for additional references.> 4. Please do not bump requests.> 5. No AI deliveries, keep it to the /edg/ generals.> 6. Artists, please post a sample of your work when "taking X requests".> 7. Use the “Photoshop, color, and /e/dit” thread for those things.> 7. No shitposting.> 8. If a post breaks the rules, DO report and hide it. DON'T respond to it.> 9. Wait for page 10 to make a new Drawthr/e/ad.> 10. Have funColor & Edit Thread: xxxxxPrevious Thread: xxxxx-------Up for debate what should be listed first right after the rules, the previous drawthread or a link to the color and edit thread. They don't need to be double spaced though.
>>3141525Changed“Keep it /e/” moved to the top as that’s important.Removed> 2. Keep the request SIMPLE.As honestly that’s in the eye of the artist what is considered simple, and some artists might like a request that’s a bit more detailed.Removed> 5. REQUEST drawings ONLY; this is NOT your personal deviantART page.As artists should be free to post non-requested artwork here.Removed> 7. Do not hijack requests. This is a slow drawthread, a rule like this is more apt for a faster more active thread, and in that regard, people will do what they want anyway.Removed> 8. PLEASE request only ONE drawing at a time. This one might be debatable, but let’s be honest; spammers will spam and won’t care about rules such as these. Given a drawthread here can last a few months, if someone posted more than one request, I wouldn’t hold it against them.Debatable> 9. Artists, post a sample of your work when "taking X requests".See reasoning in the linked /h/ post above. However, reason why I kept it in here on /e/ is that because it’s such a slow moving thread, it would likely be more helpful just to post a sample of art. Either way, it’s rare an artist asks for direct ideas since this is not a fast moving drawthread anyway.Added> Use the “Photoshop, color, and /e/dit” thread for those things. As the edit thread states > The thread is for requesting colors/edits. If you want something drawn, go to the drawthr/e/ad.Added>10. Wait for page 10 to make a new Drawthr/e/ad.More than reasonable to ask as it’s a slow moving board.

>>3141525Now that /h/ has been brought up, I have a question about these rules: are OC requests allowed here? The /h/ rules don't mention them at all, but the general drawthread does allow them as long as the character has a Japanese-style design. Is it just an unwritten rule that's left up to the artist to decide whether they want to pick up the request or not, like over there, or are OCs simply not allowed here?
>>3142801>The /h/ rules don't mention them at all, but the general drawthread does allow them as long as the character has a Japanese-style design.I would say treat it the same here. If the OC has a Japanese-style design, it is permissible to post it here as well. This drawthread moves slower, I can't imagine anyone would make a fuss about it.>Is it just an unwritten rule that's left up to the artist to decide whether they want to pick up the request or notThat's basically for every request that's posted. If the artist likes the character design, the idea behind it, or both (best combo), they will likely draw it.Boards like /aco/ and /trash/ have their own separate drawing threads for original characters because those boards are populated enough to warrant having their own threads for these matters, as having OCs in the main general drawthread would be too much. /co/ also has them but they are scattered under different names (sometimes just a general work on your art thread) and they are iirc not a thread that's up 24/7 like the main general drawthread is.
