Watches are cool if you have one or two nice ones as a rich person and don't really obsess over them, they're an affordable luxury.People making it into a hobby is pathological.I have like a few watches myself but they're just jewelry to pull off a certain aesthetic and nothing else.
>>18684906This is just what the average Amerimutts look like. Now picrel is what the average EuroChad watchbros look like.
It’s been well-known that the posters in watch threads are ugly. Why do you think they post just their wrists but never an entire fit. In fact, they’re never in any other thread except fragrance threads.
>>18686859>>18687174Watch nerds are definitely pathological. Stastitically, there are probably more autists and adult virgins in the watch community than in the general population. It's like Pokemon cards collectors.
>>18686861OP is what average American Jews look like.
>>18686859I thought watches were so cool and lusted after them and dreamed of owning a nice one Once I finally got my first one I was so underwhelmed I dropped the "hobby" and never bothered again My watch is 3 years overdue for a service, runs several minutes slow a day and I'm not even wearing it right now. I just don't care
>>18687226What's the watch?
>>18687227IWC pilot
>>18687230Mark XX? I have one of those, they are good watches, but also a "non-watch" watch; It's a basic design, you already have a minimalist mindset and usually want a non intrusive watch or a one watch collection when you buy those.
>>18687195It's some intricate little mechanical stuff with a bunch of variations and degrees of autism to geek out over and a century+ of history and makes/models to memorize and categorize. If you didn't say it had something to do with fashion, nobody would fucking assume it would. It's one of those things that should be taken into consideration yeah, and girls do dig decent looking watches yes - but they more of just expect that successful guys wear one to begin with, because it looks like you have nowhere to be if you don't need a watch and apple watches are looked down on as dorky gimmicks by many girls too. they absolutely won't care if you have like 50 of them nor about what excellent horological research went into this one 30k piece hat you borrowed against your house for. That would turn the average woman away actually. The typical citizens and seikos etc you see however, that really-is fine enough for most fits. You can say, that having really impressive majestic watches can impress other men who would be able to recognize the difference. However the general 'good enough' effort to win that game is a Rolex or two for the average guy. The geekery over whatever tourbillion turbo buttblast watches appeals not even to the average guy trying to read your status but speficially only to the other horologists who would lose their shit seeing you wear it. >tl;dr do not discount watches in general, you should wear one if you don't want to look like fucking shit. but hardcore watchfags impress only each other.
>>18687376>guy trying to read your statusPull your head out of your ass, man. You're way too invested in what you think people think. And what you think is wrong.

>>18695307>a son who hates him.Didn't his son die of overdose?
>>18695307Yeah he got robbed, he told the whole internet where exactly he keeps his watches (in a safe at home) and when he's going to go to a vacation. I suspect insurance fraud, but i doubt he's smart enough to pull it off.
>>18695351His son is the little Asian kid who would appear in videos and backtalk him sometimes. It was really funny. One of the videos was Archie gifting the kid his first watch (as an investment he claims) and it has this classic line. “Patek Philippe - it’s a Classique!”“Yeah, whatever.”If you search Archieluxury buys his son first Patek Philippe you might be able to find the video Im talking about. It’s cringe kino. I get secondhand embarrassment from the guy
>>18695307yeah and he took out a home equity loan to rebuild his collection thinking it will pay for itself by milking the watches for youtube content, his channel is dead so that fell flatto pay off some of the debt he sold his bmw recently at a big loss, because to his surprise they are a money sink, some of the new watches went too
>>18689136Teddy bulbasaur is like the only well dressed and normal looking watch guy on YouTube. Even in this bad photo he looks fine
>>18695363I remember some video of him flying to London and being all sad, something about his failed junkie son, idkbif he died or not.
>>18694495lol, is that a Dr. Manhattan reference?
>>18696747>NOMOS / cuck chairs reviewer.
>>18687813You dont think men look at other men's watches and make judgements? Strange
>>18698390Because I work in tech and the structure is rather flat, I've talked to multiple millionaires and 2-3 billionaires. First, I've never seen anything particularly fancy in terms of watches. Second, you can tell no one cares about stuff that to them is of so little value.Carry on trying to impress the middle manager class though.
>>18698390Nobody cares what kind of watch you are wearing as long as it is not some gay smartwatch or a fitness monstrosity. Nobody is judging you by your watch, but they do judge how you hold yourself and how you talk. Your watch, if anyone even notices, would not even be 1 percent of anyone's opinion.
>>1869839090% of people don’t go full autism over a fucking watch. They’re not gonna look for some special engraving to prove its authenticity. Bling is bling to the average person and if it looks like bling, that’s enough. The only people who are going to judge you for a watch are watch autists and really old men. Watches are old men shit anyways.
>>18698390they might, but their opinion is worth nothing
>>18687226I don't even bother adjusting the time on mine. I wear it sometimes when I go out as a fashion accessory because I like how the metal bracelet looks
>>18695363Lmao found it>Fat watchtard tries to do a meandering dadtalk connecting watches and vague life advice >"If I just agree can we get over this quick?"
>>18696747Guy laughs mid word. And I guess he's young and dumb. I saw him recently review a Timex TV dial and say "Apparently TVs used to be shaped like this." Really? Dude's never even seen a CRT in his lifetime? How?
So, it’s settled. Watch threads are made by fat autists who actually don’t care about fashion at all.
>>18699604Watches have never been a fashion thing, they're an outlet for wealth signalling for men. Poors buying cheap watches to be fashionable fundamentally miss the point and just end up signalling they are poor.
>>18699628Nobody is going to be so autismo they need to check for authenticity. If it looks like real gold or something flashy, that’s good enough to signal wealth.
>>18699193This is the epitome of Cringe kino. To this day, it is the only Archieluxury video I have ever watched, KINO. >>18699632>Nobody is going to be so autismo they need to check for authenticity.Yeah, the assumption is whatever you're wearing is authentic, because getting exposed wearing a fake is a faux pax you you won't recover from for 2 generations at least.>If it looks like real gold or something flashy, that’s good enough to signal wealth.Branding is a much better indicator. >>18712313I imagine that he’s so jaded that he doesn’t actually care about watches at all anymore. Once something becomes your job, it ceases to be your passion.A friend of mine, his father was the head chef of a Michelin-starred restaurant. We always assumed that the family ate well at home, but it turned out that the father never cooked at home and, honestly, didn’t seem to enjoy food at all.
>>18712617Chefs always end up miserable for some reason.
>>18712618No mystery. It’s an unbelievably stressful job.
>>18712617I find it hard to believe that he still cares too. Watches for me were something that I found cool for maybe six months, making it a career sounds horrible. But then imagine having to lie to the camera constantly about how much your rolex matters to you and how torn you are about your next mass produced luxury watch purchase. Grim
>>18712804>Watches for me were something that I found cool for maybe six monthsHow did you get out of it?I got into it around 2021 or early 2022, still into it but i wish i wasn't.
>>18712834>How did you get out of it?NTA, but I think the reason I went into it had a lot to do with getting out of it.I went in specifically with the intent on getting a small number of watches that would complement my outfits appropriately. Naturally, I went completely down the rabbit hole and the more I learned, the more I wanted, etc etc.Eventually I just got tired of the clutter and I realized that I'd achieved my goals a long time ago. I already had a great casual watch and a great dressy watch. When that realization hit me, it's like need for watches just completely evaporated all at once.I still keep an eye on new models because the technology genuinely interests me, but I have no desire to actually own any more.
>>18712834Ok, on second thought it was closer to two years where I was really into it. I got into it to the point where I bought the meme orient and vostok watches and kept thinking about what my "grail" watch would be. I think I just realized that watches weren't even something that I enjoyed wearing that much (the real engaging part was looking at things online), and I got increasingly bored of the same content from the watchtubers over and over. I started looking down on it and all the soppy stories that the people on hodinkee tell. For me, I think the initial interest in just cool looking things went to far when I started buying into (((horology))), and the so called stories that "timepieces" tell. Other things in my life were more interesting than watches, but I think the main thing that put me off was how the attitude of people who like watches began to grate on me. I really began to feel like there was just a delusional approach to life in these collector circles. I began to feel like "serious watch collectors" were basically the same as serious funko pop collectors. Then I didn't care anymore. Watches are just accessories to my now that I think about the same as my socks or ties. Still, they are kind of cool. And it is nice that whenever I notice a nice watch it is easy for me to strike up a conversation about it. Looking back, I think part of it was an aspirational status thing, and I became more aware of other things that mattered more to me status wise. I hope that makes sense. Oh also I think part of it was actively trying to use social media as little as possible too
>>18712866Did you actually get rid of your watches or just stop buying new ones?
>>18693267He sucks off all of the brandsHe thinks he'll be allowed in the cool kids' club if he keeps at itHe is the biggest shill you could imagineAnd best of allHe does it for free
>>18712866>>18712880Maybe i'll reach that point too.I got 3 good watches, the last one i bought was a year ago, but i keep looking at watches daily.Lately, i've stopped wearing my 2 nicest watches because i have had bad times at work and i realized that i was associating my good watches to a shit environment, bad feelings and creating bad memories with it.So i just wear my "war watch" at work so to speak (Hamilton khaki field) and haven't worn my 2 good watches for two months until i find a new job that i like at least. The whole mental gymnastic of it is crazy.
>>18713088It's not about high horses, it's about not associating a watch with bad moments. Clearly i don't value my job to waste my watches on it.That's what will get me out of watches i think.
