I've tried boat shoes before but they werent very comfortable. Though, in hindsight I think I got pair that were too small.

Loafers. Brown suede is the most versatile but sand is very popular right now.
I got a brown pair of sperry top siders the other week from a thrift store for just 3 dollars and I really like them. They're a small step up from casual sneakers in terms of dressiness, but look a lot better than those hideous dress sneaker hybrids, and are a lot more comfortable than my leather sole loafers. They sit in a good spot on the continuum and won't make you look overdressed like some 1920's moonshiner like the larpers in /tip/.

Boat shoes can be quite comfy. Although I do think you need a certain style to pull it off. That said, go for it if you like them!
