Thread for SERIOUS DISCUSSION about Denim, Workwear, Americana, Cowboy, Western, and adjacent styles

Previous: >>18703583

Just fyi chainstitch hemming is not a lost art or anything, it's just that the particular Union Special machines used to chainstitch back in the day had a design defect that caused that diagonal "roping" effect, in reality a properly done chainstitch isn't supposed to do that.

What an odd things to bring up apropos of nothing

No clue how he got his pants so fucked up while keeping the leg cuffs so mint. The denim I wear is all fitted properly yet the ends are always fade and tear only second to the knees. I imagine its due to dirt and shit from working in them, but with how worn his thighs/knees are I have to assume hes not avoiding labor with his

God blue denim looks so ugly, if you think about it. Why did blue become the default color for jeans instead of black? Mid wash blue jeans look like complete shit. They're much better when raw, or uniformly light wash. Black jeans on the other hand look good at any level.

Not to mention, blue doesn't even look good on every skin tone and complexion. If you're really pale, blue makes you look deathly pale. If you have brown or black skin, mid wash and light wash indigo blue will make you look even darker. Meanwhile, black jeans look good at any level of fade, and will look good with any skin color.
>>
>>18723446
Because its been one of the cheapest dyes in the west around going back millenia. Before proper indigo started being imported from India to Europe, people sourced the same chemical from woad. Black is a comparatively expensive dye but has had its popularity in in Anglosphere on and off going back to like the 16th century but mostly with the middle classes who wanted to dress less flamboyant by going entirely black.
>>
>>18723480
But by the time denim became popular among the general population in the 1950s (and not just workers), synthetic dyes were much cheaper than natural indigo. So multiple colors of denim should have been popular, just like with t-shirts. But instead 95% of denim sold and worn by people is still blue.
>>
Is bleached denim for the gays / women?
>>
>>18723520
sure
>>
>>18723520
All denim is for men. Bleached, light wash, stone wash, raw, faded, distressed, even embroidered jeans, were all made first for and by men. Faggots and women appropriated them later, like with everything else in fashion.

every boomer uses the tumble drier and if you mention black jeans to them they say "dont those turn gray?"
>>
>>18723520
if you want bleached denim that looks really cool, get some raws and get some fades going then bleach them. it makes them subtly darker below the knee and in the creases which adds some dimension and texture without taking away from the look.

sun faded like my jacket is way cooler than all-over bleached. you can sorta emulate it with the "wear as denimbro jeans, then bleach" method. the fading won't be top/down or as diffused and the shadows wont be as dark if you bleach, but you might like that better.

i had a pair of waxed canvas double knees with that same fit (not the modern fit) from filson and i really regret selling them to a nguyen in portland. they looked basically the same but not as worn in, double knee, and they had leather trim around the edge of the hems.
biggest grailed regret of my life.
>>
>>18723985
that ai generated colored gentleman dresses the exact same way i do in the winter. the khaki bucket hat, the flannel, the unlined denim jacket, the m65, the wax canvas pants and of course converse. everything but the chain was my everyday fit last winter, just rotating different flannels/twillshirts, pants, and pairs of converse.
>>
Only have one pair of jeans right now (Flat Head 3004), kinda want more for variety, thinking of getting 2 pairs out of these:

>Studio D’Artisan SP-110 Kakishibu
>Black Momotaro 14.7 oz #100 or #400 (straight or wide)
>Sugar Cane 2025
>Sugar Cane Okinawa Sugarcane Fiber Blend
>Sugar Cane Hawaii Sugarcane Fiber Blend

Thoughts?
>>
>>18723995
something wide to change it up. fullcount 0105 13oz sized on the loose side (they shrink over
time) or wider. dont do momo 400 unless youre a skinny twink with cake, it has a lot of waist taper for a mid rise.

very cool fades, they almost look stone washed from all the washing machine marbling.
i want something that fits like the tcb wides but with less flat of a butt. maybe evisu 2001's again.
>>
really my dream jeans are like the leg fit of evisu 2001 sized up 4-6 sizes but with an aggressive v shaped yoke, small high set back pockets, and a lot of waist taper but not over 12.5" rise. maybe one day i'll do custom jeans. so expensive and so much wait but its probably worth it.

nah i want this >>18724067 fit in the leg but with vintage style pockets, a rounder shape butt and a smaller waist basically. to get that leg fit im wearing a 32" waist belted down to like 26" lul. my ideal jeans wouldnt fit tts in the waist but theyd be more like 1-2 sizes, i like room to tuck and still breathe.
>>
>>18724074
more like 1930s style smokestack legs, but with a little bit of taper not full blown untapered. 11" leg opening ish.

this pants fit is pretty good desu
the chambray jacket's a bit much but other than that...
>>
Should I add an extra 0.5 inches over my usual inseam for hemming with unsanforized one wash jeans? I'd rather just have Self Edge do it instead of taking a trip somewhere locally to have it hemmed after washing.
>>
>>18724156
just wait unless you want high waters, i don't even hem most jeans for a yr or so anymore at 5'7 cause vertical shrinkage is so unpredictable. even at my height ive had some jeans i wear the factory hem at a full break on because the fabric just wanted to shrink a lot. no matter if you baby them they'll always shrink every dimension every wash until their maximum no way around it.
>>
>>18724160
Do you double cuff new unhemmed jeans with their 34 inch inseams or do you do a fuckhuge single cuff
>>
>>18724164
kind just depends on the fabric and cut of jeans what shoes i have on and what looks and sits right and what fit i have on. don't forget tokyo cuff, it takes off even more length relative to cuff height. and don't forget rolling the hem instead of cuffing. on summer weight denim even triple cuffs sometimes fine.
i usually let it like sit relaxed on my shoes, not all high and tight like you see in porkwear fits usually. takes more length off, makes the cuff kinda sit rounded on the shoe and looks cool, more laid back. i only cuff em higher with like chuck highs and shoes it looks good with (not a boot guy personally)
keep in mind im not a zoomer or remotely self concious about my height, and my legs are kinda long for my height so the proportions look normal. cuffs will make you look shorter UNLESS the weft is the same or a similar color to the warp. they will also change your leg to torso ratio even if youre tall which can look goofy sometimes. use your mirror. big cuffs can be counterbalanced by narrow shoes.
>>
>>18724164
i like the horizontal line cracking effect you get on denim from wearing a big single cuff thats had dirt and shit in it floating around. i think it looks cool as fuck when the pants shrink and get hemmed and i have a horizontal cracking line above my hem, and its a cool spot for sashiko. so now days i lean towards big cuff and if it looks goofy ill just wear them around the house and shit until theyve been washed a cpl times.
>>
File: IMG_9130.jpg (2 MB, 2688x2016)
2 MB JPG
>>18724164
heres an example see this shitty pic of my SAMFORIZED BROKEN TWILL wranglers? thats where i had to cuff them with lows. now they high water almost an inch and i can only wear them with highs and boots until i bust the hem open and conditon+stretch the legs.
>>
>>18723995
All of those except for the sugarcane 2025 are fucking gay. Either go for those, or get the Fullcount 0105 for peak slouch cut.
>>
>>18724078
>>18724082
Then you want relaxed fit or loose fit jeans with an 8 or 9" leg opening. Something like Levi 550 or 569 loose straight.
>>
>>
File: 569.jpg (86 KB, 1000x1000)
86 KB JPG
The model is sagging his pants like a faggot. Or else the pants would sit near the waist and the pockets would also be higher.
>>
File: IMG_9132.jpg (520 KB, 1591x1989)
520 KB JPG
>>18724198
i have plenty of jeans that fit like 550s, not quite what i'm going for. i want my legs to be a straight unbroken line and most importantly i want the fabric to drape, not cling to my skin.
picrel is a great example of what im going for in the leg, but sadly the rise on these jeans would urkle
me.

Does washing with bio or non-bio detergent make a big difference with fades? I feel like washing with more harsh detergents would give you a sort of "grainier" fade pattern at the end like the stone wash jeans of the past if that makes sense.

>>

Maybe if you’re looking for a girl at a nightclub.
>>
>>18724482
That might be true for picking up women at bars but its a terrible way to find someone worth spending more than a few hours with. Personally most of my success with girls and younger women was just in being genuinely happy when I was around them. So many young people are terribly anxious and want validation from others, give them that and they'll love you.

Teenagers are adolescents, retard. They're not "children". They're in the intermediate stage between childhood and adulthood. Fucking subhumans these days don't even know how stages of life work. Literal Idiocracy. This is what decades of infantilization of adults does. Now even grown women in their 20s refer to themselves as "girls", to appear young and non-adult, in order to get away with irresponsible behavior. So now teenagers are "children" so that 20 something wenches can take their place.

The older model is far less cropped. The new one is quite aggressive I agree. In general they could do with lengthening the jeans too, I'm 5'11.9999999999999 recurring in timbs and a cowboy hat and still the inseam is just a bit short after a few washes on most of these.

I’ve owned tons of high end jap made tees and at the end of the day the Whitesville 2 packs are the best. The cut is perfect, the collar is nice, the fabric is comfy and soft, and for something jap made they’re relatively fair priced. Lots of people do like the Bronsons tho and have good things to say

>>18726393
I used to think this. After fading a few pairs, you learn to enjoy the process. I just store all my other pairs deep away in my closet and force myself to wear one pair for months. To me, I’ve learned to enjoy the continuous progress of wear and fading on a single pair. I personally don’t like the look of a brand new pair, so I just wear my jeans relatively hard to get them out of that crispy phase. Also I think raws end up looking better when you don’t give a shit and end up getting them dirty over time. I prefer having a well faded pair with a permanent brown/yellow tint on the weft threads from them getting regularly dirty

Found this for 50 euro on vinted, brand new. It's a 50/50 cotton/nylon blend weave and it should be warm due to the quilted lining. I don't have tan jackets, but I do have a ton of workwear jackets overall.

their 24mjz is the most accurate one i've seen so far. the vintage future has an autistically detailed review of it on plebbit and a fit video on youtube. not a lot of jap brands make them and red tornado's is more accurate than edwin's.

I'm mainly just worn sweatpants throughout my life but now that I'm wearing jeans and trousers I'm supposed to be undoing my belt and undoing the buttons/zipper before then pulling my pants down a bit to whip out my cock before pissing at the urinal?? That's not what I saw on TV. My cock is well below the fly on all of these whether they're mid rise or high rise, and no I'm not wearing anything low rise.
>>
>>18731276
That's because modern pants assume you're going to sag your pants like a niggerfaggot or a fatty, so they cut costs by putting a short little bitch fly in them. But in proper pants the fly goes all the way down to the crotch seam. The only way to get that now is by either buying button fly pants or getting your pants tailored. But undoing a button fly is a pain in the ass. A few times I almost pissed my pants while trying to undo the buttons one by one.

Nice man purse, faggot. Are you carrying your maxi pads and tampons in it?
>>
>>18734493
Imagine having homosexuality so suppressed you're too insecure to carry a fucking bag
>>
>>18734495
Men don't carry bags like that, you retarded faggot, because they were literally designed for women with the female anatomy in mind. Tote bags and their short handles are better for women because women have shorter torsos and wider hips. So they're able to carry the bag on their shoulder and rest it on their hips comfortably for long periods.

If you're a man, a messenger bag with it's strap worn across the chest or even a backpack are much more convenient and anatomically compatible than a gay little man purse. Even that guy most likely is holding that bag only for this gay photo shoot. IRL he probably carries a backpack.

Let's begin dissecting your insane delusions by having you cite your sources for the tote bag being designed for women because of their shorter torsos and wider hips.

Besides Asket, who makes high quality four pocket jeans? The coin pocket is a vestigial waste of fabric.
>>
>>18736372
Did you size up in these
>>
>>18736406
No, I went with same size as SC1947 and most jap 501s. The waist fits a little more snug than the 1947, but the denim uses relatively large threads with a loose weave so it stretches to a perfect waist size after a day or two. I’m not sure id recommend sizing up more than that since the leg will be fucking massively wide and the butt won’t fit as nicely
>>
>>18735005
>umm sores???
It's common sense you retarded r*dditor. Use your brain for once in your miserable life. Women have narrow shoulders and wider hips. So, shorter straps on a bag make it more comfortable and easy for women to carry a bag close to their body and support it with their hip. The same way tribal and rural women carry their infants on their waist/hip.

If men tried to do the same their center of gravity would be displaced out of the body since we have wider shoulders and narrow hips. Which is why tote bags don't make any sense for men.

You morons do realize men and women are not the same anatomically, right? Things that work for women don't always work for men.

Why would you want to look like a clown?
>>
>>18738030
I own both. If you are a skinny/short guy then the 1951 is great. Both jeans have incredible top blocks, flawless build quality, and really unique repro style denim, but in all honesty the 1947 is the objectively better cut. It just has that optimal amount of relaxation in the thigh and top block with just enough taper to not make the jeans look baggy. If I had to only choose one pair of jeans to wear forever, their 1947 would definitely be a contender. I haven’t checked all the stock lists in Japan, but I know various retailers such as Mirrorball, Wolfpack and Klamp Kayo are Freewheelers retailers and you might be able to find a pair. They usually restock the 1947 cut once a year and last time I checked it is looking like it will be back early 2027? Sorry bud, you may have to wait unless there’s some other retailer listed on the Freewheelers website that still has a pair in your size

Forgot to mention that a lot of the jap retailers just stocked a new pair of 1941 repros with a crotch rivet and cinch back if that’s something you’re into. Based off the size charts it looks a little better than the 1951 with the tiniest bit more room in the thigh and less taper. The flip side is that it’s like $100 more than all of their other jeans for some reason. I’d assume it’s because it just has a lot more hardware and they probably have some unique natural indigo dye in there

Thanks I'll go with the 1947s, found that Real Moon has my size(s) in stock but I actually think I'll wait a bit since I still have some weight to lose and I've already purchased a lot of new clothes recently. Got some Freewheelers shirts and their aviators' trousers which are great from McFly and Mirrorball while I was looking for a store that still had Rainbow Country jackets in stock. Saw the 1941 but it looks like the rise is a tiny bit lower than I'd prefer.
