That's not old money. That's how gays used to dress in the early 2000s. "Old money" is about wearing comfy clothes with good structure and drape nonchalantly. Not this skintight faggot shit. Looking like a tryhard fag is the opposite of "old money". An old money guy doesn't need to prove anything. He carries himself with grace and dignity, and that alone is enough to differentiate him from the unwashed masses.

>thinks price = quality
That's why you get ripped off by fashion brands. You retards do realize that India is a shoe manufacturing hub, right? They're cheap in India because they're manufactured locally at the local costs and wages. India makes more authentic "old money" leather dress shoes/boots and clothes in general than most western countries combined. Half the overpriced shoes you buy in the west are imported from India, with a western brand's label slapped on them, and sold at 10-20 times markup.

>Tom ford

My sides.

This old money thing is so amusing to me because here in France we mostly wear very basic stuff like Lacoste and Ralph Lauren, you see a lot of brands like cafe cotton for shirts and suit supply, maybe some Armani if the person likes to splurge, some of my friends (mid 20’s) like husbands, universal surplus/brut archive and read l’étiquette so they get inspo from that but half of the brands in there are completely unknown and everyone dresses extremely basic and neutral, it ain’t 1920 anymore. And you will NEVER see anyone of us wear fucking Tom ford, people would openly ask you wtf you’re wearing and why everything is so short and badly tailored.

TLDR: stop using social media and stop chasing trends.
>>
>>18726930
Same for Germany, at least in my area. Nobody is flashing brands, because why would you? The people in your neighborhood are all in the same wealth/income bracket and the last thing you want is to attract attention when in the city.
Its all about really subtle details.
>>
>>18726915
>that heel and sole is one piece of molded rubber
And there's nothing wrong with that. Molded rubber is a superior material for soles. It's much more durable and lasts longer than leather. It's why you won't find leather soles in hiking/outdoor shoes, even in the high end ones. The only reason people used leather soles in the past was because they didn't have better alternatives like modern TRP rubber.

>>18726930
Only poor people chase brands and think luxury brands = quality. Most of the times you're paying money for the brand name, not the quality. The brands themselves manufacture them for a fraction of the price. There are plenty of lesser known "mall" brands that make just as good or even better products than these luxury brands. When it comes to fashion/clothing, beyond a point you get diminish returns, because you're often paying WAY more than the actual cost of manufacturing. That's why fashion brands have some of the highest profit margins out of any industry.
>>
>>18726962
Bingo, the only difference is in the fit, the more fashion forward of my friends wear clothes a little like those in the pics posted further up because they echo the clothes seen in old family albums that sit in garages and attics and we think that’s cool, but it’s all the same stuff really. Right now it’s summer so it’s all Lacoste shorts with loose rolled up shirts or polos basically, you might see some linen and coton chinos or boat pants (forgot how they’re called I’m esl but they’re long and roomy, thin pants usually in marine or Bordeaux) sometimes and were all wearing espadrilles or maybe boat shoes/tennis shoes like superga. Honestly this old money shit seems like people trying to cosplay how some of us dress in Europe, and it’s doomed to fail because that’s tied to how and where you grew up and what your social circle is, I don’t expect this dead board that never goes outside to get that though.

They don’t understand the function of most garments or colors because they lack the cultural context. As an european, I find it fascinating to explore the nuances in different parts of the continent. This requires some time and effort, though.

See this is genuinely the kind of fit you’d see at church in the center of nice, which is a very “old money” (fuck I HATE that term so much, so American) place. Trump just looks like a fucking North American rube.
>>
>>18727067
Hey well said, couldn’t articulate it myself, and the car part is so true lol, you walk around biarritz for example and in the nicer areas you’ll see a lot of euro trash shitboxes that are restored or getting fixed, most of my friends owned beat up shit that can do everything, they do spend money on their bikes though. Our parents are huge on SUV’s tho, a few are starting to get Chinese electric ones because the sound system in them is a lot nicer funnily enough.
>>
>>18727076
What zoomers call "old money" is just regular menswear that men wore throughout the late 19th and 20th century. It's not just rich people. EVERY MAN wore clothes like that back then. They were called menswear for a reason, because they were just regular clothes that men wore formally or casually when they weren't wearing their work clothes (in cases of non-white collar jobs).

But by the 2000s, jeans and t-shirts increasingly started replacing button up shirts and trousers in casual occasion. Otherwise, until the 90s, it wasn't weird to find guys (even teenagers) wearing a tucked button up shirt and loose fitting chinos (or jeans) even while hanging out with friends.

Nobody in the 90s and early 2000s dressed like picrel and thought they were cosplaying as "old money" billionaire and trillionaire jews. They dressed like that because they just wanted to look like well dressed men.
>>
>>18727091

>>
>>18727091
I'm a young guy and have been trying to move into wearing nicer stuff in this manner as of late. It's a great feeling especially in the hordes of people who wear absolute garbage that nobody'd be seen outside their homes wearing even ten years ago or fashion trendhoppers. My main inspo was, like you said, regular guys from back in the day. It's all down to fit and material at the end of it. Shit's fucked when I put in some effort and I get side-eyed as if I'm wearing a tuxedo and top hat on campus. The bar for formality is on the floor.

Yeah, the coof lock downs destroyed any sense of shame people had left in them. Now they dress like they walked straight out of the bed, no matter the occasion. These days people will look at you funny even if you wear jeans and an untucked button up shirt, like you're overdressed or going to an interview/party.

>>18727428
We need dress code in schools and workplaces again. When you give domesticated animals too much freedom, they go insane and start doing stupid shit because they can't figure out how to act properly.
>>
>>18727476
Most places do have dress codes, though. Some explicit, others implicit. Just because the masses don’t know or ignore them doesn‘t mean that they don’t exist. Humans are tribal after all and each tribe has its uniform.
>>
>>18727476
Look I’m sorry but the rest of the world isn’t the US and no one will judge you for wearing a shirt with some proper jeans and a belt anywhere outside of it. However I will say, it’s very funny to me that the country that spawned Ivy League and preppy style is now known for dressing like fat fucking slobs and being uncultured swines (although the US has always been a cultural Siberia).

Yes you can, retard. When the costs, wages and local cost of living are low. Especially when they manufacture and sell it locally. That's why all western corporations shifted their manufacturing to third world countries, because they can earn 10-15 times the profit while still selling them cheap to you. Even when Levis sells you a pair of jeans on sale for 30 dollars, it actually cost them like 5 dollars to manufacture it in a Bangladeshi or Pakistani sweatshop.

It’s not a terrible aesthetic but I have a feeling Italian companies are shilling this shit here. I also think Macy’s and Nordstrom shill here as well.
>>
The “male gaze” of fashion.

You’ll notice with this style, all the threads seem to overlap, almost deliberately into, well, menswear with an Italian and nautical flare. A look that screams “classy hotel bar” and impresses older “classy”women.

Imagine this, if you will:
>A man in his mid to late 40s. He has a square jaw, which is appreciated, but he’s grizzled a bit with a summer tan, salt and pepper hair, maybe even a light beard forming, and he’s wearing linens and light-colored pants. He’s doing that hunter-like stare into the sunset off the Amalfi coast with a cigar and a whiskey. Maybe even a sailboat. Hell, maybe he’s wearing boat shoes. But in reality, he’s a corporate manufactured idea of “sprezzatura” which is sold by men to men. It’s the same cliche that is used for cologne advertisements at the mall, right near the jewelry section. The ads you see during the Christmas season. Or maybe it’s the same type of tanned yet Caucasian man wearing a Rolex and that cliche cigar again. Maybe it’s yet another button-down shirt and a leather belt with a woven pattern. You just walked into Macy’s, Penny’s Nordstrom, Banana Republic, and you’re surrounded by old wine aunts and Indian men.

The same people in these threads will tell you this is what a “real man” should wear. Is it? Or is it what a marketer will tell you?
>>
>>18736062
Well, you have figured out the summer uniform of upper middle class european males, age 35+, when somewhere close to the sea in Tranamontania. There are also uniforms for other sexes, social strata, age brackets, seasons and occasions. Most of these uniforms have developed over time and are not changing by the year. Knowing what can be worn when and where is a significant part of culture and eduction. The rules can be bent, might change. But they always exist. They are a means on non verbal communication that function as an aid to peoples classification of others. As there are too many people to deal with everybody individually all the time, these aids help us filter through the overwhelming mass of information on a daily basis.
The relationship between fashion companies and consumers is rather symbiotic than one way. Of course companies latch on to trends, trying to capitalize on the idea of others by pushing certain new lines. But that is mostly short cycle stuff. Long term uniform trends are usually only broken by major societal shifts, think moving from culottes to the pantalon in manswear or the great casualization. Of course there is all the internet influencer noise, but why would you listen to that uncritically? The idea of willingly entering a parasocial relationship with somebody I know to be in the business of selling me things on the basis of this exact relationship is alien to me. But if you do, you have to be mindful of these things. Its like befriending a barkeeper.
>>
>>18736169
That’s a lot of words and a lot of babbling. At the end, it seems like you’re telling me to respect marketers. Fuck them. I’d rather have fashion be organic, even if trends and cultural norms catch on.

If there are actual marketers from Zara, Uniqlo, Banana Republic, Macy’s Nordstrom, and Men’s Warehouse on this very board, every one of them can eat shit, even if I own some of their products.
