Been a fond wearer/maker for decades now.
Just received some solid gold hair beads (picrel, top left) from a local shop, and now I’m wondering.
>>
Also, on a related note:

Has anyone bought Zigleys? Love the designs, but hesitant to buy something that I can’t try in person on my own hair.

The most my hair jewelry extends to are metal braid cuffs and beads from the beauty supply, I don't use much else. I prefer using wood beads, they are the most effay.

I can get behind wood beads! I wore them a lot myself when I was more into the soft locs. Similar diameter to picrel… although my styling wasn’t as put-together.

Another thing I’m partial to are natural stone beads. I own both Jade and amethyst beads from (1). Although I wouldn’t purchase them again myself because it feels odd (to me) to have a loc brand that doesn’t feature any kind of POC anywhere at all in big ‘26… at least when it’s so easy to purchase from someone I “vibe” with more lol.

Also trying to find some quality wooden ones that works with my preferred style of mini twists now (2-3mm dia.)…just in case you knew a guy hehe

Impressive but I wonder if this isn’t annoying over a whole day, must be pretty heavy over time?
>>
>>18728706
They're less annoying than you'd think, I actually like the clinking sound they make
>>
>>18728782
Hm mh, im white but if I wasn’t and did this I’m so retarded I would probably end up slapping myself in the face with them by turning my head too fast kek
>>
>>18728706
They’re definitely a choice and I know many people who dislike wearing various kinds or even all kinds of hair jewelry.

Personally, I really enjoy the added weight and movement. Shaking my head with beads in is a cheat code for free dopamine.

>>18728794
Slapping myself with the beads is the best part… then again I’m an autist (aren’t we all), kek.

I do definitely tie my hair back in a variety of ways when I need them out of my face for sure though. Picrel for example :) that’s how I would do my hair for work (butt length) when I was in food service.

Bro I need to cut my hair I’m gonna work in a pizzeria for the summer and I’m so relieved, long hair in this heat is just not it.
>>
>>18728822
Part of why I quit lol. After I turned 18 I was eligible for oven-tending and cut counter. Toooooo hotttt. Everyone there was either bald or rocking nothing longer than a pixie. I spent most of my days in the cooler or cold side of the make-line.
>>
>>18728794
I like to wear them in cornrows like picrel, that prevents some of the face slapping.
>>
>>18728827
Lmao hiding in the cooler wasn’t possible for me because the kitchen I worked in for two summers was literally a closet and the coolers were basically big ass fridges on one side of the space
>>
>>18728847
How is shit like this even legal to wear in public
It looks fucking horrible and it’s literally dangerous

I’ve seen that style called Fulani braids before. I’ve never been able to canerow my own hair so I have yet to try them. Always loved the look and freedom with designs.

Black women are taking to the streets en masse sporting all manner of bludgeoning devices affixed to their heads. Welcome to Dateline NBC, where we keep you up to date on the latest public safety concerns.

Could YOU be at risk this hot girl summer? More at 11.

This shit looks like literal gore or actual feces coming out of those thing’s heads. Why do think this is fashionable in the least? Grow up & do better.

It’s definitely a labor of love putting them on. These kinds of styles are typically worn for 4-6 weeks though. The payoff isn’t that bad in the end :)

Probably. I’m a nail tech who works in her (work set of) jammies every day since I have my own studio.
乁( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ㄏ No sense in dressing up just to get covered in dust, acetone, glitter, and pigment.

Hair is part of fashion, yes? Should I make an off-topic bait comment like how half of the other users of this board do?

Sure, act oblivious

>Just saw your comment about whiteness:
There’s hair jewelry for all textures.

Many cultures from all across the globe wear it. Most will encourage you to experiment, as long as you put some care into finding out whose culture you’re borrowing inspiration from, and remain conscious and respectful of that fact once you find out.

IT CAN BE! Mine looked like picrel for most of my life! And that was the result of my mom spending hours detangling it and tryna make it nice for the family photoshoot.

Here are my 5 musrt-haves:
1) A good clarifying shampoo (I use Soapbox's one)
2) A good moisturizing shampoo (I use Camille Rose guava slip)
3)A good conditioner (Also CR Guava Slip)
4)A good oil(I use many, I make my own rosemary oil, sometimes vit-E oil, sometimes Olaplex no.7)
5)A good heat/UV protectant.

Get a good haircut and accept that it might actually be a "big chop".
Worry about healing your hair and its cuticle by focusing on moisture before getting it shiny. Shine comes from health, not products. r/curlyhair on shreddit is a great resource, and It's pretty active on there too.

I rarely use gel >>18730735 has some, but >>18728294 does not and that's how it is most days.

I'll allow it. Similar accessories are worn all across the globe. An example is "les ferronnières" of the 15th-19th century. Most people have seen them in all kinds of media. Zelda is often depicted wearing one as well, although I don't know what her real-world equivalent would've referred to it as exactly. Pretty much all cultures had a thin headband with an affixed jewel. Especially if they had access to metallurgy. La ferronnière is the only one I know the proper name of. La Belle Ferronnière (left) is a popular Da Vinci painting.
