Whatever I Wanted Edition

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

got these shitty boots 2nd hand, thought they were waterproof, went trudging through storm drains for a few hours, feet got soaked, not waterproof.

when i got home i made the inside 'glove' of the boot go inside-out, and since then, there has been a big lump, kinda like a line going across the middle of the boot, and it is incredibly uncomfortable and made my foot hurt after working in them.

any idea what may have happened and how i can remedy the lump. theres plenty of life left in the boots and i would hate to toss them.
imagine if i had done this to a $200 pair of boots, jeeze

porkhurst is discontinuing their wide boots and they're offering a 125$ discount apparently
>>
>>18730697
desu you got the same effect going up half a size. the issue with the 602 was always the aggressive toe taper off of the wide ball and the 602m kinda fixed that. imo the footbed also runs slightly short so there was never any point in waiting for a wide with for something you wanted

retard here. My leather boots are cracking. What do?
>>
>>18730927
Go back in time and clean & condition them before they crack.
>>
>>18730927
brush after wear to get rid of sand and "microdebris", condition once a year or if needed sooner

but that's before the leather cracks
>>
>>18730945
>>18730965
ok but what do i do now? Its like a small crack
>>
>>18731003
Clean, condition, fill with some sort of leather filler/glue, if the crack goes all the way through put a leather patch on the inside. If the crack is in an area that flexes when walking then you can't do anything past conditioning as any filler or patches will either come undone or make the area too stiff.

How many pairs of boots qualifies you for mental illness?

>inb4 however many I have +1
>>
>>18731067
Above 3.
>>
>>18731067
I would say 3 and above. You only "need" 2 pairs to rotate between throughout the week. Im guilty of not following this rule, since I have 3 boots and 2 pairs of leather shoes. If i wasn't such a consoomer i would just have my best pair of boots and my best pair of shoes. I don't think oxfords are part of this count since they are usually just for wearing with suits.

Thoughts on these moc toe derbies by Grant Stone? I'm looking for a casual derby in suede and I was favoring these since I already know their last fits me really well.

Thoughts on shoe stretching? Should I go to a cobbler or can I do it myself? I already have shoe trees, maybe they can stretch the leather a bit. Or at least not let it contract after I take them off my sweaty feet. I wonder if a bit of a stretch would compromise the leather though.

very tempting but they're glued in vietnam
and their waxi boot apparently wasn't the best but this one seems to be better
I dunno
>>
>>18731665
Why would you ever wear this?
>>
>>18731672
it's cool and has performance
basically like a hightop leather sneaker but one you can be athletic in
>>
>>18731673
You're not just gonna wear it in the city for fashion right?
>>
>>18731675
it's for uhhh urban combat so it would fit in in the city....?
of course I'd wear it for fashion but it'd be nice to have some performance behind the shoe
same reason why I like the african ranger as it's comfy for lots of walking

and akshually I just checked and skolyx also has a hightop in black leather but theirs is blake stitched for a similar price
and goral also has a black hightop but in horse and a roseanvil (yuck) collab
>>
>>18731672
It's tough, IMO. With cargo pants, if it fits your style.

That said, this style of boot SUCKS to put on and take off if you go in and out of your house often. So for my lifestyle I would never buy shit like this.
>>
>>18731680
chinos - army trouser
this - army boot
I could see it fit or at least with jeans
>SUCKS to put on and take off
they gave it a pulltub to make it easier supposedly
>>
>>18731679
>of course I'd wear it for fashion

Rofl please don't. Please. I promise you you don't want these.
>>
>>18731696
oh but I do want them, it's just that it's a pointless purchase considering my wardrobe
they would be fun for a larp but that's about it

>>18731683
>pulltub
*pulltab
damn

Truman Iron Rangers came. I don’t see any glaring QC issues.

Not sure I’d pay full price for them. If my size was 40% off again, I’d probably buy something else.

>What's wrong with Thursdays?

>Hi, two comments both related to wear and tear: 1. Shell cordovan isn't like normal leather and water can actually damage it (good thread here). 2. Scratching leather with your fingernails is only going to damage the leather and isn't recommended. Good news is this is likely repairable with some shell cordovan-specific polish or cream, but out of caution I'd recommend visiting a cobbler v. trying to do this yourself.
>>
>>18731936
that's supposed to be shell?
>>
>>18731936
Anon, you buried the lede. That comment is from the official Thursday Boot Reddit account.

I hate that company so much. Almost bought a pair when I was just starting to get into boots, but I lurked /btg/ enough and learned I shouldn’t buy them.
