Whatever I Wanted Edition

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

got these shitty boots 2nd hand, thought they were waterproof, went trudging through storm drains for a few hours, feet got soaked, not waterproof.

when i got home i made the inside 'glove' of the boot go inside-out, and since then, there has been a big lump, kinda like a line going across the middle of the boot, and it is incredibly uncomfortable and made my foot hurt after working in them.

any idea what may have happened and how i can remedy the lump. theres plenty of life left in the boots and i would hate to toss them.
imagine if i had done this to a $200 pair of boots, jeeze

porkhurst is discontinuing their wide boots and they're offering a 125$ discount apparently
>>
>>18730697
desu you got the same effect going up half a size. the issue with the 602 was always the aggressive toe taper off of the wide ball and the 602m kinda fixed that. imo the footbed also runs slightly short so there was never any point in waiting for a wide with for something you wanted

but that's before the leather cracks
>>

>>18730965
ok but what do i do now? Its like a small crack
>>
>>18731003
Clean, condition, fill with some sort of leather filler/glue, if the crack goes all the way through put a leather patch on the inside. If the crack is in an area that flexes when walking then you can't do anything past conditioning as any filler or patches will either come undone or make the area too stiff.

I would say 3 and above. You only "need" 2 pairs to rotate between throughout the week. Im guilty of not following this rule, since I have 3 boots and 2 pairs of leather shoes. If i wasn't such a consoomer i would just have my best pair of boots and my best pair of shoes. I don't think oxfords are part of this count since they are usually just for wearing with suits.

Thoughts on shoe stretching? Should I go to a cobbler or can I do it myself? I already have shoe trees, maybe they can stretch the leather a bit. Or at least not let it contract after I take them off my sweaty feet. I wonder if a bit of a stretch would compromise the leather though.

>What's wrong with Thursdays?

>Hi, two comments both related to wear and tear: 1. Shell cordovan isn't like normal leather and water can actually damage it (good thread here). 2. Scratching leather with your fingernails is only going to damage the leather and isn't recommended. Good news is this is likely repairable with some shell cordovan-specific polish or cream, but out of caution I'd recommend visiting a cobbler v. trying to do this yourself.

What a cheap resole job.
So they just cut the old welt stitches, left them there, just glued a sole unit (Vibram montagna?) and that's it. The only thing holding that heavy lug sole on is the glue bond with the thin strip of welt and that has large gaps in it already. It's doomed to fail.
>>
>>18732423
>>18732424
New sole is definitely a better look.
>>
>>18731278
Own a pair, nothing. Losers on here will bitch about quality and then post the ugliest thing you've ever seen for $400 more as an alternative. They're spergs. They buy $600 boots simply because some other sperg on reddit said they were the best-made. Then they wear the boots around their neet cave. Be honest. How many people posting on the fashion board of 4chan are living a life that requires sturdy boots lmao? If you work a normal ass office job and buy a pair of Thursdays for your normal ass fits, you'll look good to normal ass people
>>
>>18732670
as expected you care more about vanity than quality and craftsmanship, you'd wear plastic walmart boots because they're "close enough"
>>
>>18732695
That's exactly right. "Quality" and "craftsmanship" are marketing buzz words to make you justify spending $400 more on a pair of boots that you're going to wear exclusively indoors, and what's embarrassing is that you fell for it. There's a clear middle ground between Walmart crap that hurts your feet and $600 boots, and the spergs on this board seethe because Thursdays saw that market and filled it. They're comfortable, they're more durable than a pair of sneakers, and you can wear them to your soulless software engineering job office. Stay mad.

>>
Are supposed to get blisters the first time you wear boots? Do you stop getting blisters after the boots break in?
>>
>>18733077
Yes, if you dont do the breaking in properly.
Yes, if you bought a properly sized boot.
>>
>>18733077
It often happens with some brands. Red Wing Iron Rangers are notorious for it. The first 6-10 miles with mine sucked. Now they they feel snug and supportive. Like a thunder shirt for my feet
>>
>>18733077
Yeah you can't wear some for more than 10 minutes worth of walking before the blisters start forming. I put new ones on while doing household chores at first, after a few weeks of that I can start wearing them for walk and then its fine to wear them for entire days.

Once a decent quality boot is fully broken in they'll feel like the second layer of skin that they are.

Thanks. I'm more or less reassured. They are Jim Greens, so much wider than other boots/shoes I've got. It's nice to have something comfy out of the box, but I didn't know if you size down for wide widths. The pain of break-in time for me is usually on the sides. The blisters from my Jim Greens are on the heels.
>>
>>18733089
They'll break in soon, more quickly than IRs. I have a pair of their buffalo skin AR8s

Damn these are hot. Not all brands have width variants though. Size is kind of inconsistent between different makers too. Unless real American boot brands just follow brannock standards? Can't tell if I should just follow my converse sizing.

>>
>>18731936
you can scratch cordovan with a fingernail all you want and you won't damage it, you can be quite forceful too, it's a good way to get out deeper scratches and dents that don't disappear with just brushing alone, scratching them smooth with a fingernail and blending it all in with a brush
abviously doesn't work if it's cheap PU coated shell

people are way too paranoid about water spots, it practically only happens with brand new shell washing hands at the sink
calling water spots permanent damage is a big stretch, when they disappear with wear anyway
nick horween's pro tip to get rid of them is to just wet the whole boot

Perfect for outdoor, casual settings.
Doesn't get scratched easily like smooth/top grain leather.

It's all just esthetics.

got these shitty boots 2nd hand, thought they were waterproof, went trudging through storm drains for a few hours, feet got soaked, not waterproof.

when i got home i made the inside 'glove' of the boot go inside-out, and since then, there has been a big lump, kinda like a line going across the middle of the boot, and it is incredibly uncomfortable and made my foot hurt after working in them.

any idea what may have happened and how i can remedy the lump. theres plenty of life left in the boots and i would hate to toss them.

>>
>>18737046
They're not bad but they're definitely way overpriced and they keep going up. I can't really justify buying from them anymore, it's not worth the Viberg tax. Their priorities seem to have changed too, there's less emphasis on the boots and much more on loafers and derbies.

Chinky boots are here. Fit is good but they are a bitch to get on. Once you clear your instep past the tongue it's all good though. Leather is also not as shiny as the product page, but I am very happy with that. I prefer it to be a little more matte.
>>
Does anyone here wear chelsea work boots?
I need a pair and all the brands I see cost around $50-$60 which seems like cheap shit.
>>
Do you think wearing boots requires you to be /fit/?

Can a skele pull off boots? I want to pull the trigger on some iron rangers but i've only ever worn chelsea's since they're slimmer profile
>>
>>18737565
Generally speaking being thinner just gives you more options. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
>>
>>18737565
Iron rangers aren't really that chunky of a boot. You can wear slimmer pants (not skinny) with them and look good. Maybe check out blacksmiths, they're the best redwing for skinny guys imo. Avoid moctoes like the plague, they look awful on a slim frame.
