I'd say shorts are pretty hard to get wrong as long as they're somewhere between slightly above the knee at the longest and mid thigh at the shortest. Shorts are meant to show your legs so knee length or longer looks bad but higher than mid thigh and you might as well be wearing a speedo...plus you'll look like a fag. And then make sure they're neither too tight nor too baggy. And that's pretty much it. Even jorts of cargo shorts can work as long as they're between slightly above the knee to mid thigh and not too tight nor baggy.

Shorts with tucked top IN THEORY look good, but IN PRACTICE untucked looks better 99% of the time. It's weird, because that vintage look you can find on the catalogs of the past seems to me impossible to replicate. Try it and you almost always look like a chud.

Tees look ok tucked in with the right kind of shorts (not jorts, a French tuck works with these though). I find a cropped length tee works better with shorts as it produces the same effect and reveals your belt.
Shirts look ok but needs to be occassion appropriate.
Again these points are all assuming you have a decent physique.

I will just say this: WEAR. SHORTS. ABOVE. YOUR. KNEES. I used to wear knee-length shorts and a friend of mine told me that switching to shorts above my knees would increase my attention from women and I thought he was full of shit but then I tried it and holy fucking shit he wasn't wrong. My compliments from women skyrocketed. And the shorts I wore weren't even that short. They were only like 2 inches above the knee.

i feel like that only works if you have nice legs. i've been wearing mid-thigh length shorts for at least a decade by this point and i've never once got any compliments on it. if anything all i got were some insults here and there asking if i'm wearing my sister's shorts or something. i'm actually about to switch to knee-length shorts for this reason
