finally got around to trying PdE >amber russeless of a 'reference-amber' than amber sultan. spicy and musky. not much complexity, but the simplicity works in its favor here.8/10>azemour les orangeslike i mentioned before, this is like someone smoking a cigarette next to you while you try to eat an orange on your lunch break. smoky citrus, with a faint humid, mossy base. good, but there's a lot of contrasts here7.5/10>salute!dry wine with a fresh-synthetic base more typical of modern 'sport' flankers. surprisingly tame and weak given the advertised notes list; i could wear this in a hot summer and not be overburdened6/10>wazambaextremely resinous and balsamic incense. very slight earthy sweetness. despite the thick, pungent quality of the smell itself, projection and longevity are on the weak side, kind of like how avignon is7/10>vetiver bourbonall vetiver, no bourbon. this is similar to other dry, earthy, efferescent vetivers. very little unique character, but at least it's a good neutral smell. would rather wear vetyverio or grey vetiver than this6/10>cuir ottomansmells like coca-cola in the air, but smells like dirt and burnt plastic/dust on the skin. dries down into a incense/leather accord that is typical of other niche cold-weather scents5/10>mal-aimeliterally straight up smells like a bowl of salad leaves and twigs. all green with no sweetness; pure herbaceous bitterness. photorealistic bush. interesting, but not something i would choose to wear.4/10>acqua di scandolahalf-chypre, half-aquatic. this is a salty, sweaty, floral citrus. it comes off as a less aggressive acqua di sale and smells very 'old-school.' very late dry-down is much more relaxed, cool, slightly sweet. i'm slightly disappointed that there was no mineral quality to this one, but i really enjoyed it and thought it had a lot of variety. 9/10overall i feel that PdE sits in the realm of interesting blends that are more concept pieces instead of stuff to wear.

Want to save money but also want to buy Guerlain L'Instant Homme EDP
>>18732796I really wish Oud Rosewood didn't smell so sweet on my skin, it overpowers the rest of the fragrance. Outside of that I get woods, like if they took every single type of wood and put it into one fragrance. I don't find it as animalic as others seem to. I wish it smelled on my skin as amazing as it smells on my clothes. As for Oud Ispahan I think it's great and interesting but it does remind me a bit of a stinky rich old lady. I have the first release so maybe they toned it down and made it more unisex or masculine with later releases. It's quite unapologetic and intense. There is a musky base that lasts on skin long after all the other notes have dissipated.

I am in some local fragrance groups and there are a lot of indians in them. Many of them have hundreds of bottles. I have noticed a couple of trends with indians (and arabs to a lesser extent) and they tend to fall into hype chasers and status chasers. The hype chasers will always be rotating into the latest viral trends and whatever influencers are talking about. Right now its Mykonos frags, previously its been stuff like Ingenious Ginger, Blue Talisman, Initio, Loumari, etc. The status chasers tend to be less quick to move on to new fragrances, but will only be drawn to stuff thats expensive, discontinued, or hard to get. These guys love stuff like BTV, Amouage, Roja, Omanluxury, Creed as well as the top-shelf sephora stuff like TF, Byredo, and Kilian.
>>18732661Any frag makes you brown if you apply too much. A straight white man doesn't leave a cloud of smell behind him (unless it's work related).
>>18732850I own this and Bel Ami Vetiver. Both are exceptional
>>18733298I'm currently in a deep leather phase, and I want to try this and Bel Ami og. What's the leather note like in these?
>>18733296Exactly.If someone's outside your 'personal bubble' to use the American term, they should not be able to smell you at all, good or bad.Your cologne is something that you wear for yourself and as a treat for whomever you trust enough to allow inside your bubble.
>>18733291Thanks for the inside look, I find the dichotomy between frugality and excess within online Indian hobby communities very interesting. On the one hand they have people buying the absolute cheapest fragrances in the world and on the other they have people buying overpriced luxury fragrances. The interaction between them is hilarious. Then they have the people whose greatest achievement in life is buying that one expensive fragrance that was out of reach their entire life. I consider their materialistic obsessions a reflection of their economic and cultural struggles.
>>18733325My personal bubble extends to all ovulating women.
>>18733300I'm too much of a noselet to understand what's leather there. I can smell a similar note as in Antaeus in the original, but I think that it's the carnation. Vetiver tones that down a bit

Not sure how useful this is, but I got an email from Histoires de Parfum. >>18733373>China WhiteHow does it smell like? I only smelled black afgano from Nasomatto and I fell in love with it but I can only buy decants now
>>18733381mostly powdery with a touch of soft florals. has a very human-animalic musk in the base which is subtle. If you appreciate those kind of wistful, poetic, melancholy scents like L'orpheline or the personal/intimate feeling of Seminalis you will appreciate it. I find its an interesting juxtaposition of texture and profile. The notes are all typically very clean and delicate, but it has the extrait-level thickness and weight to it which I find to be a very well-executed contrast. The name China White actually refers to a type of porcelain, which you can see in the texture on the cap, and I find it to be an apt name as the fragrance embodies the delicate paleness of porcelain as well as its strength as a material. One of the best from the house and extremely underrated.

>>18733375Tell me about Narciso for Him, what do you think of it?
>>18733403Eau Sauvage was a tester I got for like $40. Have been trying to find a cap for it but they are pretty hard to come by. As for Mr Hermes I forgot to button him back up when I used him last. I tend to forget since its the only bottle I have with a built in cap. The Guerlain box is for the vintage Mitsouko Parfum mini. >>18733414It doesnt say on the bottle but it’s the EDP which I believe is discontinued. I see it as an upgrade to Kiehl’s musk. It’s very plainly a galaxolide heavy composition, which is the same musk used in Kiehl’s. But it has some support from notes of pink pepper, which accentuates the top a bit, as well as iris and amber in the base which make it warmer and a little sexy. I use it pretty much exclusively as a nighttime scent for around the house, it’s very cozy.
>>18733420Very interesting, I thought it was the EDT which is also discontinued. Now I want to try them both.
Autism blog post: I own close to 200 bottles and got tired of having so many bottles at home. I ended up getting a storage unit last year for other reasons and decided to move my whole collection there too. Now I just keep 3-4 fragrances at home and switch them out every couple of months. Its nice being able to focus on a couple of different fragrances and get to know them better without having so many others to get distracted with.>>18733412L'Orpheline is probably one of my favorite blind buys. I initially bought a 50ml (along with 100ml of another serge lutens) for very cheap not being sure if I would like it. As soon as it came in and tried it, I ordered an 100ml bottle. Wore it pretty much every day for a couple of months after getting it.
>>18732711i tried a few of their line up today. to me, the standous were Un Bel Amour d'Ete, acqua di scandola, Wazamba and Aziyade (I already own CO, AR and Azemour)

>>18733563try to follow the flow chart, smell as many prominent old fragrances as you can (no5, aramis, shalimar, etc). Use the fragrance groups image in the op to understand how scents are categorized. play around with the search feature on fragrantica to find scents with different note combinations or popular stuff from different eras. And most importantly keep trying stuff so you can find patterns in what you like and dislike.
>>18733526Of course it is. I'm autistic, not retarded.>>18733531I haven't really tracked the amount I've spent, but thats probably close. It's 100% a stupid waste of money, but whatever I enjoy it. I have stopped buying fragrances though since I actually want to use the stuff I already have.
>>18733524Everyone liking Un Bel really confuses me. I don't think it's terrible or something, I just can't imagine it being worn by a guy.
>>18733563i see it kinda like wine. the main goal is to try a bunch of things and figure out what you like and don't like. just try many, many different ones. at first, it's broad categories, and eventually specific notes. over time, you've developed your nose and tastes. >>18733581i just like florals and it's quite different than the typical summer frags. im not against wearing something deemed feminine as long as i like it.

What is Bleu de Chanel supposed to imply? I get Sauvage DNA modernizing the barbershop vibe with amber accord but BDC is just… there
>>18733713BdC was a new trend. It took the previous aquatic trend and deconstructed it into the more generalized “blue” scent. You should also realize that BdC predated Sauvage by 5 years, and Sauvage is a continuation of the BdC deconstruction.
>>18733713Non aquatic fresh blue
>>18733404I don't understand why some people wearing perfume when they go to gym. If you sweat, the perfume smell will gone. Just think about it.
>>18733713The bottle has one of the most beautiful, subtle, and elegant designs I've ever seen, but the perfume inside doesn't convince me. For me, it's a symbol of Jacques Polge's creative decline. Bleu isn't unpleasant, just bland, while Sauvage is irritating.
>>18733742>Bleu isn't unpleasantDo we know what the design brief was?If Polge wasn't tasked with creating a new, memorable powerhouse, but something that was unique, (and it was at the time) mass-appealing, and smells high-quality, then mission accomplished.Chanel has plenty of interesting, challenging fragrances in their exclusive line. BdC was meant to be a mass-appeal unit shifter.
>>18733748Yes, I understand your point, but Chanel was different. They had very few men's fragrances, and whenever they did create one, it was special, like Pour Monsieur, Antaeus, or Egoiste. I think everything changed with Platinum, a fragrance that has its fans, but it was the first time Chanel made something for the general public, taking into account the trends of the time. In a way, Bleu is the Platinum of the 21st century.
>>18733751>whenever they did create one, it was special, like Pour Monsieur, Antaeus, or Egoiste. I think everything changed with PlatinumI'm not sure. I agree that when they put something out, it's special, but they're not the ones to break new ground. Historically, they take a beat, wait to see what's popular, then make an outstanding composition that Pour Monsieur was/is an outstanding aromatic chypre, which was popular in the 1950sAntaeus was/is an outstanding Power Scent, which was popular in the 1980sEgoiste is a bit of an oddball, but even it was a response to the spicy-woody character of Fahrenheit. If anything, Platinum was slightly ahead of the curve, correctly predicting the renewed love for barbershop fougeres of the mid 90s.BdC, like >>18733723 said, was new in that it took all the good stuff from the aquatic fragrances of the 2000s and tightened it up and turned it into something a lot less casual/gym-y.
>>18733742>bdc>The bottle has one of the most beautiful, subtle, and elegant designs I've ever seen
>>18733713It's supposed to imply that women like it.
>>18733737Sweat and body heat make a fragrance "gone" faster due to evaporation but it's not immediate.
>>18733748>Chanel has plenty of interesting, challenging fragrances in their exclusive line.I'm not very familiar with Chanel, what are their most challenging fragrances? Nothing stuck out to me looking over their exclusive line but I do need to go and try them out.
>>18733737its a brown thing
>>18733784I haven't tried them all because they only sell samplers like once every five years.Of the ones I've tried though, the ones that I think are interesting compositions, not necessarily good or bad, but definitely not straightforward:Le Lion is a very strange leathery labdanum and patchouli. Very polarizing. People who like it love it, though. Bel Respiro is the scent of a meadow in the dead of summer, down to the hot breeze and dried-out plants.
>>18733581Yellow florals aren't as feminine to me as white florals
>>18733748>Do we know what the design brief was? That’s actually a great question I’d love to know the answer to, but I think I can take a fairly safe guess which relates to >>18733751 and >>18733763. As >>18733763 stated, all of Chanel’s famous men’s classics were walking in well trod ground, and they ARE excellently composed, but combo that with how rarely they used to release men’s frags, that’s why people further associate them as being special. That is up until Egoiste… Egoiste was Polge’s pet project over many years, with no oversight by Chanel. Eventually Chanel called on Polge for a new release and he deemed it ready, getting a limited run soft launch as Bois Noir before the full launch (after some minor edits) as Egoiste. While I don’t feel it’s appropriate to call it a flop, it didn’t sell as well as Chanel wanted, and it was VERY out of line as far as current trends were running. So, instead of calling it defeat, they completely overhauled the fragrance to match current trends and did what we’re overly accustomed to nowadays, they made it a flanker. Thus, Platinum Egoiste was born. So going back to my original point, I’d guess it was intended to be a mass market pleaser. Ever since original Egoiste’s release, the Chanel brand has only been really interested in making money, AKA mass appealing frags (strictly speaking in regard to the main line).
>>18733778Kek’d
I really need to pare down my collection to make room for Platinum.
>>18733793If Le Lion is challenging to you, something like Concentre D'orange Verte is some ultra niche heavy hitter that nobody could tolerate. Grow up, noselet LMAO
>>18733805No you dont, egoiste/platinum egoiste are overrated. Get HDP 1725 instead
>>18733822damn. you put that dude on blast. personally, i don't think Le Lion is challenging, i just don't think i like labdanum all that much. from memory, most of the private line was quite enjoyable, but nothing really wow'd me, especially at that price point.
>>18733822Epic gatekeeping, bro. Post a pic of your collection.
>>18733826Did the ghost of Coco Chanel cause your girlfriend to leave you or something?
Egoiste is good but not a product of its timePlatinum Egoiste is only "ok"Both are however better than the million variants of the generic Allure Homme and Allure Homme Sport line howeverBdC is of course a meme in 2026 but it basically created its own genre so some credit is due. Ironically, each step up in concentration/pricetag only made it worse. /old man yells at cloud
>>18733857i don't think BdC is a meme. it's at this point a fairly basic, but very pleasant and generally well-received frag. most people only own one perfume and it would make a great, safe pick.

>>18733860I meant meme as in that most of the 15 years of masculine mainstream perfumery after its release, have been derivative of it/are using the BdC "meme" in some way. So its difficult to judge BdC on its own merits in 2026, but clearly the woody+citrus+"blue but not aquatic" formula was an enormous success.
I want scents that feel mystical and mysteriousWhat else should I try aside from pic related
>>18733541A very solid and pleasant fragrance. The cardamom is perfectly balanced with the rest of the underlying notes, and feels restrained just enough without feeling subdued. It doesn't do anything too crazy, but it succeeds at being a grounded, yet uplifting fragrance. Perfect for going out to dinner!

>>18733857>Egoiste is good but not a product of its timeLike the other guy said, it's an oddball. I can never see myself wearing it, but every time I smell it, I think "This is really great, I should wear this." and then I never do. It's a combination of notes that you really don't see anywhere else. I think it's simply too unique and strange to be able to judge fairly. The early 90s were an interesting time for unique fragrances to come out. The brash scents of the 80s were out, but the world hadn't yet decided what would come next. (It would be unisex, casual, linear, beachy, aquatics)All sorts of crazy stuff came out of the early 90s. Most notably, probably, was Mugler Angel.>Platinum Egoiste is only "ok"In the way that Chanel does the best version of what is already popular, PE is probably the best "easy reach" men's fragrance ever, or was, until BdC came along. You can wear it in all situations, all temperatures; it always smells nice, clean and classy without saying anything in particular.

>want to buy fragrances>remember that im ugly >discouraged from buying fragrancesits not easy being me
>>18733952Just because you look ugly doesn't mean you have to smell ugly.Dressing well, being physically fit, having good hygiene, etc. can overcome a lot of physical hurdles. Obviously, you're not going to attract a 9/10, but there's tons of lonely 4's out there.
>>18733955i want to k m self
>>18733932It's very versatile, but it may not be the best choice for a hot summer's day.
>>18733952I buy fragrances 'because' I'm ugly. I have started conversations with multiple women regarding what they were wearing. People also compliment fragrances that I'm wearing. Fragrances literally improve my hygiene because I want to shower all the time to wear something new. I also wash my clothes all the time because the fragrance gets stuck on them. I talk fragrances with my crush and cleaned my place so she can come over. Now I'm exercising and dressing a little better, all because of fragrances. Maybe my life would have changed without fragrances but I think fragrances are a nice motivator, they are uplifting and it's a very normalfag hobby.

>>18734008>Are clones even worth it?I'm sure there's a case to be made, but in my experience, dupes are never as good as the real thing. The biggest issue with a lot of them isn't necessarily that they don't smell like the real thing, but that, because everything has to have BeAsT mOdE performance, the balance is all out of whack.

Is fragrance the "Lipstick Effect" for males?
>watch a video of this English dude going through his frag collection>shows off some bottle from a designer I've never heard of (it looks like a 50ml)>mentions he bought it two years ago and it's already almost empty>he has like 70 bottles, most of which are like thisJesus Christ. I can't help but wonder if he is unironically doing the "spray 20 times every 4 hours" meme.
>>18734089Yeah but the economy at large is doing good though
>>18734089I don't know what that is. Sounds like womanspeak.
>>18734098There is no such thing as overspraying for a light fragrance. I have some stuff I bought full and use rarely with significant dents in less than a year. On the other end I have dense fragrances that I can get away with one or two sprays. Some people also buy partial bottles from decanters to save money.
What frags does young James Bond wear?

>>18733291>>18733330The state of desi fragrance choices ties in directly with their castes, and cultural/socioreligious hierarchies even within said castes. Status and performatively cementing their place in a higher rung is everything. The concept of izzat works both ways, with a higher caste aiming for the most ridiculously expensive fragrance to flex on foreigners (and red haired women) with - yet also the most dirt cheap clones of clones of clones, so as not to grace the noses of their own untouchables with their gatekept overpriced perfumes. It's the same reason some will purposely not wear deodorant, not wash, etc. They know they smell, that's the goal, because izzat dictates that doing otherwise would be beneath them.

>>18734345It has chocolatey aspects depending on the variety used. Zino has a earthy/chocolatey patchouli. MFK Oud Extrait also has a similar variety. Different regions and varieties of patchouli have different profiles though, its not always chocolatey. But if you smell a cacao or chocolate note its probably built on patchouli.

>>18733563>How do I become less of a noselet? This is not a thing. Not only is liking or disliking a fragrance completely subjective, there are different ways to appreciate a fragrance and there is no right or wrong way.The more fragrances you experience, the more your tastes will evolve but there's no one correct end-stage of evolution either.

And I'm actually converging on what I like.I'm also too lazy and autistic to go to the store and spray shit. But more importantly, I prefer to actually wear stuff for about two days to decide if I like it or not. And I think it would be fun to revisit some time in the future to see how my taste changes. So far, out of all the shit I've bought, I strongly disliked only about three samples right away. So, I don't really regret it.

My wife described it as "it smells like what drinking a Manhattan cocktail feels like."Like >>18734545 said, the performance is poor, but there's actually some good things about that.1. It doesn't project. But your date won't want to get in close if you're choking her out with your fragrance. Plus, because it doesn't project, there are good chances she'll have never smelled it before. It's not something like Sauvage or BR540 that you smell everywhere because it projects. It stays very close to the skin. It gives her an excuse to lean in.2. It lasts maybe four or five hours. After four hours, your date is over. You're either home alone or you're with her.
